We need some height in the squad.

Anita is teeny tiny. We will always conceed off Freekicks and corners when we only have 1 player able to dominate in the air...

United and Chelsea have won countless games from sneaking goals from corners.

Poor the Villa.

Barry, Milner and Young in successive seasons. Ouch.

And very good for us should we indeed manage to get our hands on Young.

The best out of the three - especially in our current situation, with no pace whatsoever on the flanks.

I don't think he is the best of the three (in an ideal world I'd prefer Milner) but if we can get him to show more consistency he'd certainly be good enough.

Milner, for me, is just very similiar to what we've already got/tried. No real pace but loads of workmanship and decent in most aspects of the game. A goal-threat now and then too. Occupies same role as Kuyt I'd say perhaps a bit more withdrawn?

Young is far more attacking-minded and for me he offers a completely different threat than Milner. He was simply brilliant in their recent United game for one and has looked very good for at least a year now. Scores goals too.

I can't wait for the day we once again have a pacy, technical adjust and potential top-winger on our hands. Young fits that bill for me. Milner doesn't really.

Where is that smug get Claret and Blue.
When they were doing well last year , he was all over this place like a rash

Bit harsh, no? IMO he was/is OK and shipped as much banter as he handed out.

As for the current Villa situation, while I hoped I'd be wrong (within obvious limits) I didn't think their appointing GH was necessarily the right move for either party.

Ashley Young has been living off one good season for at least two years now.

Everyone I know who supports Villa thinks him brainless, average and overrated, and I haven't seen anything to make me disagree with them.

From what I've seen of him this Season that doesn't make any sense at all.

He was simply brilliant in their 2-2 draw with United for one.

Anwyays I'd love him at Anfield.

Poor the Liverpool. Alonso and Mascherano in successive seasons.

You actually made a tear come to my eye.

Re: Young, people have been talking about his 'potential' for a long time, but he is about 26 now, right? He seems to start every season off looking bright and seems to lose steam half way through. That said he's still a very good PL player, not World class, but very good, and definitely better than anyone we've got to play wide.

Think you should modify that Anita

Ashley Young would be a great signing. He's exactly what we need. 15 mill seems like a good price aswell.

"Ronaldinho and Suarez are players who we have never even thought about but I would think there is not a manager in the Premier League who has not given Ashley Young a thought at some stage or another," Hodgson told reporters.

"But giving a player a thought and thinking 'This is a good player' and signing him are two vastly different things.

"I could give you quite a long list of players in the Premier League who I admire and think are very good.

"But there is no truth in the rumour. If you are asking if there are any negotiations taking place between Aston Villa and Liverpool, then there aren't."

Linked with him today:

Theo Janssen from Twente. Apparently available for 3 million cos of activated clause in contract.

Will be good pals with Agger and Meireles. 😛

Briefly linked with Spurs yesterday after impressing in Twente's CL run.

Young hasn't done much recently has he? diving overrated player. Whilst i'd like him (maybe) 15m is well too much for a player who only turns up (performance wise) to a fifth of matches

The thing about Young is that he has put contract talks with Villa on hold till the end of the season. This suggest to me a player who is angling for a move, and also suggests a reason for his poor form.

I always have a suspicion about players like that.

While I don't know if Young is as good as has been made out in the past, I don't think his recent form should be too much of a concern. He obviously wants to leave, and feels (rightly or wrongly) that he's took big for the this team. A move to a big club, whether us or someone else, would probably revitalize him - especially as he needs to prove himself. He'd be a good signing I Think.

Roy's such a dream killer.

Young may be over rated a tad due to his nationality and decent first season but he would improve us. He can play on either flank and has pace (something we crave). I wouldn't advocate spunking silly money on him but for 10 million he may well be worth signing.

Yep, I feel he definitely needs to leave Villa to get back to his best. I wouldn't be against this for £15m as it isn't such a massive sum as he is very good, English, Prem. proven and I think he'd get to the next level in a better team.
