Just pointing out we've been unlucky too

All teams get luck at different stages and all teams get unlucky too, is it true the top sides tend to get more share of the luck over the lesser sides? Perhaps but who's job is that to determine? I know Wolves have been incredibly unlucky this season but that's just from what I've seen when they've been on TV. Just like who's job is it to determine who out of the top sides come out with more luck.

Could the handball against Jackson that wasn't given in the opening game go down to a bit of fortune going against us?
Were the red cards for Macallister, Virgil & Jones unlucky?
Is the OG from Matip unlucky or poor judgement?
Was the VAR offside on Diaz unlucky or a bad decision?
Was Nunez hitting the bar and Jota having his 1 on 1 saved at Luton unlucky or poor finishes?

Despite us being top the league I’m not 100% certain we’re in the title race, to be honest. I have some hope because I trust Klopp’s coaching and problem-solving and we still have Salah, Van Dijk and Alli who have done it before and a lot of exciting younger talents alongside them. The depth in most positions is good. But objectively this is still a very raw team that is still in the process of finding out how it wants to play - normally teams that compete for titles are at a different stage of evolution. So at this point I still think if Arsenal and Man City figure out their problems, they will pull away.

As for Villa, they are a more settled team than us and equally well-coached, but they don’t have their version of Salah, Van Dijk and Alli and it’s very hard to compete at the very top without that kind of experience. They will get top 5 at a minimum though.

Yep, this is how I feel, too.

So, I suppose the answer to the original question depends on how we define "title challenge"... If it means that Villa are still in it on the last match of the season, I doubt they can sustain this form and I think the cheaters and the arse may pull away in the spring. But if it means still mathematically possible in mid-March and fighting for a European Cup spot next season, then, yes, I think they are.

If we're top at new years with a decent gap i'll believe

I've been stung before when we've been in stronger positions

Realistically there's only 1 team that can stop us, they haven't managed to do so thus far and they have to come to Anfield now.

Yeah - but I don’t think, and I said it before the season started, that City would win it this season - and I don’t think they have the balls to pull things out of the fire like 2 seasons ago.

I think they’ll go for CL glory again and their core isn’t as strong.

Arsenal are Arsenal - come Feb they’ll doo what Arsenal always do - the fannies.

I’m not saying it’s done - but it’s definitely on.

There are things that need to happen (Darwin needs to start scoring - we’ll need him to be the guy Binomial claims he is - or we have to give Gakpo a run) and we need some luck (Konate & probably Jota to stay fit for a bit), and some big performances (Virgil, Alisson & Trent) and a few to step up (Tsimikas, Diaz, Curtis) and a few to find consistency (Mac A, Endo, Slobbers & Gravy).

We have it in us to do it.

Agree with everything you say apart from the Arsenal line. Although they are not nailed on for the title or anything, they will have learned a lesson from last season in the run-in.

Plus they've added Rice who provides greater defensive solidity and hunger

How many games does he miss? 4, is it?

If we can keep the other forwards fit and they remember how to score then in theory we should be okay.
I actually think the other forwards will play better if Salah is missing they will step up, and personally I think Nunez is better when he knows the responsibility lies with him. I hope Jotta is back by then, he is the man who dont give a shit if Salah is on the pitch or not. He has full belief in himself.

If we're at the top of the table after the Burnley game later this month with at least a 4 point gap, I'll start to believe.

Big opportunity tomorrow now.

Hopefully the chance of moving 6 pts clear of City will be the extra motivation we need.

We won’t, but if we did win the next three matches we’d be 12 pts ahead of City by the next time they kick a ball in the league.

We might, we might not. Even 7 would be more than ok.

The way we are right now at home, you'd be stupid to be against us.

Who cares about the games in hand, points on the board is what matters.

It would also put us 10 points clear having got a few of the so called trickier games out the way.
That’s just a stupid statement as it translates to us winning 1, drawing 1 and losing 1 of our next three giving City all the incentive they need to close the gap.

No it doesn't translate to that at all. That translates to 4 points from the next 3. :redcard:
