We are really no different from almost any other PL club apart from City and Chelsea - in that, like it or not, we are a business and have to live and die by the basic laws of economics - supply and demand - Of course we are customers/consumers, I don't get the indignity, and the sooner we are treated that way the better the product we are consuming will be.
We aren't that special anymore as a club and, sad to say our detractors are largely right we live and seem to survive on our history and that credit my friends is almost all spent -
The only way we can think of getting back anywhere near like it used to be is for a multi-billionaire to buy us (and maybe they could afford to be more generous with ticket prices) - until then we need to keep treading water to keep our heads above it - to do that we need success on the pitch and to have that we need money , lots of it, to buy players and pay wages.
As far as I know the big plan was to increase match-day revenue this will just help us remain competitive not to necessarily include doing the decent thing for locals and fuck everyone else.
Look, the atmosphere at the match is never going to be what it used to be. Little did I know how far the ripples of the utter tragedy I was witnessing at Hillsborough that April day in 1989 - would gradually over three decades spread out and stifle that once famous atmosphere, with all seater stadia causing the demise of the kop.
So chums, until Sheik Sergie happens along the owners have to squeeze funds from whoever , wherever and whenever they can.
Of course yes, they need to do this to protect their investment to either make money out of the business (unlikely) or keep it saleable, it's not a charity.
It's quite easy if you don't want to pay - don't, like quite a few of our number have already decided - that's what I will do if the time comes. Then if enough decide to do that they will have to think again - back to supply and demand.
The good old days went along with John Smith, Peter Robinson , Shanks Paisley et al - sorry
