Ticket Prices

What is more important.

Tickets that everyone can afford or a top four finish?

IMO it is tickets that everyone can afford. Yes it is important to win games but not the fake way that it is done now with shit atmosphere at the games. Make the people happy is now make the people happy that can afford it.

Transforming fans into customers.

They are not even trying to hide it. They know that most fans are so stupid that they will get away with it. Liverpool FC is no longer a football club. It is a like a movie with a new episode or two every week with new fans turning up for every episode. The players are the movie stars. FSG trying to milk the fans as much as they can.

FSG out.
They have removed that quote from their website so it appears they are trying to hide it

feels like we need to raise the prices in order to compete with the best teams in England or Europe.
Players need to get paid.
I think Anfield is going to be turned into an attraction or maybe it already is.
Foreign fans coming to England for the weekend won't mind the prices.

Like "transforming fans into customers" is anything new and hasn't been going on for years. It's just got a nice label now and an actual marketing department (who understand what marketing is) doing it

What are the actual figures, how much of our revenue is from gate receipts, and what percentage of the total is that? And how does that compare to others?

There is talk of a walk out in the 77th minute on Saturday.
If enough fans do that it will get noticed obviously.
If its 1-0 or 1-1 and dead exciting would you still go through with it? I probably wouldnt.

That's only about three minutes earlier than lots of people start to leave anyway

Without knowing what the other teams will do re a price increase, but we still have the 5th most expencive single match day ticket and 4th most expencive season ticket in the league.

The issue though is losing the local connection which is extremely important. Thats not worth the extra 2 mill to the club. This wont help attract new young local fans.
Would have been much better to adjust the prices a bit differently but most knew this was coming when the Anfield expansion was announced.
Had we built a new stadium the prices would have been increased even more.

I'd be much happier with increasing ticket and hospitality costs for day-trippers and corporates (with increased capacity for those customers), and maximising the opportunity to wring every penny out of those fans who wish to spend it on food, drink, LFC-branded mobile phone cases and whatever, while ensuring that a core (hardcore) section of atmosphere-generating fans and kids can still attend at an affordable price. So you can be a "premium" customer and spend £100 a game, or basic match watching facilities at £30 or whatever. There will be far fewer of the Premium customers, but they generate more income.

You need both to ensure that match days are profitable, but also serve the core fan base and maintain a partisan and noisy atmosphere.

Say they reduce some prices and it costs 5 million a year. They have good marketing and PR guys. Find some company who'll pay money to be the official something or other, that'll cover a chunk. Tell Klopp his war chest is 1 million less than before I doubt it'll be an issue. A couple of million a year is nothing to club that size, but would buy an awful lot of goodwill. Either do that or find out where Bayern Munich where they get all their money.

Instead of simply selling them a ticket they should only be able to access a "match experience" package which as well as giving the entry to a game they get a scarf/hat and some credit to spend in the club shop or one of the outlets inside Anfield.
I am sure punters who are going to see Liverpool as a once off experience would happily pay £100 plus for something like this

Bayern Munich have a fan base that dwarves any other team, one in every 8 Germans is a Bayern fan, and they have the biggest and widest sponsorship and associated revenue streams in the country, and also the world. They're a commercial powerhouse with no genuine competition

A better atmosphere would ensure that people return more often, making it more of the experience rather than relying on Coutinho to bail out the other 10 no hopers in the squad.

I think the club could find clever ways have day tripper only tickets all in certain areas, and find ways to get the locals and regulars bunched up more.

When the kop was buzzing week in week out, i bet the average age was about 20 years younger, mostly because it is the same people in there. The oldies who no longer go to get pissed up with their mates need to piss of the 'stigma' of being in the main stand or centenary and give up Kop seats so it can get back to where it used to be. The Ageing Kop is definitely not a myth.

The whole thing requires a bit of a serious shake up, and all STers need to be included in the process of doing so.

Only problem I could see with cheap tickets is that touts are all generally local (nature of touts..) and if they get the cheaper tickets due to being local, they will just farm them off at the same price to tourists and just make a better margin.

But the Bundesliga is not as well marketed to Asia or Africa as the Premier League. There should be huge sponsorship and revenue potential for Liverpool in those areas. Bayern dominate Germany, but I don't think they make the same tv money as English clubs. What I'm saying is if Liverpool were better at making money commerically they could screw fans a bit less.

We are better at making money now.

I'd actually say we're making way more than we should be currently for marketing & sponsorship.

These owners have driven up those revenues massively. Then they have still chosen to gouge the fans over ticket prices.

Yep, their TV deals are nowhere near as lucrative. But some of their sponsorship deals are eye watering. And I agree with the rest of your points about screwing fans.

How do they calculate that valu figure?

TV right have also been sold to Indonesia and India.
Premier League clubs were also told today that total from TV rights sales at home and abroad from 16/17 to 18/19 will top £8.3bn.

8.3 billion.. Fucking hell.

Yeah but the atmosphere isn't "partisan and noisy" with those "core (hardcore) supporters" anyway, so that's a bit defunct.

At least the Asians scream a bit.

Dunno, £77 for a regular ticket in the main stand is a lot of money like. It's a working class city.

My own season ticket will work out at £54 a match next season. It's pretty fucking expensive like. Not sure how much longer I'll be going to be honest.

Laying out over a grand every June isn't something that appeals anymore, especially when the atmosphere is crap and I keep getting Chinese fellas with selfie sticks sitting next to me.

And don't get me started on the fat cunt that sits behind me.

Maybe I'm growing/grown up, but it's not how it used to be.

Rosco comes over regularly does he?

I'm not sure I agree with this walkout myself. I'm actually not wanting to go the match Saturday because of it (and I'll be hungover too)

It's going to cause a lot of problems and possible fighting in the crowds. Really think it'll get that bad. How can that be a good thing? I've seen loads of shit on Twitter with knobheads saying they are gonna drag people out with them if they won't walk out, etc.. It's really gonna turn nasty, cos id say at least 75% of the crowd won't go.

It's gonna create a "them and us" within our own fan base. And that's wrong.

What's everyone else's thoughts?

There must be a better way to do this surely?

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. Dont think its a good idea. Its a reason that it has never happened in our history as a football club. Its one of those things that shouldnt happen.
As you say it can turn nasty and it will certainly take away the focus of supporting the team out there on the pitch.
This is an ownership and management issue and nothing to do with the players.

I'd pay 54 pound to get a chance to throw a burger at Gary Neville 🙂

How do we compare to Arsenal and Utd ticket price wise?

Younger fans are getting priced out these days. That's why the atmosphere is gradually declining IMO. I'm also fed up of dickheads filming YNWA on their phones instead of singing it.

Startling analytical insight Dreamy.

Although, I would remind you that the "new Dreamys" posting style dictates you:
advocate telling SoS to stick it forcibly up their hoop,
side with the underrated scando out-of-towners,
propose selling King Kenny off to the highest bidder, and
ponder how a return of Gillett and Hicks might really be a pretty good thing.

Younger fans are getting priced out these days. That's why the atmosphere is gradually declining IMO. I'm also fed up of dickheads filming YNWA on their phones instead of singing it.

That problem in general is one of the things I'm fed up with these days.
People spending time recording on their phone or taking pictures rather than enjoying the moment.
I just want to throw people around when it happens at my daughters school. Parents desperatly looking for the perfect picture or recording of their child. Disturbing the ceremony to get in contact with whoever they want a picture of, Instead of just enjoying whats happening and taking part in the moment.

Yeah, that bit is a bit trickier. But at least non-day trippers know what NOT to shout and sing about. No 'who are yer' or any other proper meff behaviour
