Certain players, often without it being their fault, become identified with periods of decline or of failure. They also become associated with a manager and can be seen to embody that manager's failings and style. I'm not saying it's accurate or fair but that's the situation I see with Lucas. In a funny way it'll feel like we're not turning the page until he moves on.

Indeed. He is the player I associate most keenly with the decline of LFC under Benitez. I'll be quite honest and admit that I've always disliked Lucas, but now I truly hate him, and I'm too far gone to feel anything other than anger when I see him in our kit.

What odds we agree on a deal but he fails to agree personal terms?
I wonder. There was one interview with him in the past when he wasn't getting in the side and said he might have to move to get regular football, so he may look at these things somewhat differently from Insua. Much may depend on what encouragement he gets from Roy about his prospects of playing regularly in the Prem.

Liverpool set to clinch deal for Mascherano replacement
Published 23:00 03/08/10 By Football Spy

After Fernando Torres pledged his future to the cause there could be more good news for Liverpool fans, with the Anfield club about to clinch the signing of Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen.

The Italian club have accepted £6m for the Danish star, who was last night discussing personal terms. The 30-year-old plays the holding midfield role currently occupied by unsettled Argentinian Javier Mascherano.

It would have been a good thing but unfortunately we can't get everything we want.

I didn't want Paulsen simply because I think that we can do better than an aging player past his peak!

I saw him play a few times for Juve

He was fucking shit

I thought you never watched football if Liverpool weren't playing?

Hodgson needs to fucking slow up with the buying players until he's handed his £100m transfer fund.

Anyone know the strength of the reports linking Palermo to our Captain?
It's appeared on goal.com

Don't fret Brendan! your captain plans on staying for a long while yet.

The Palermo link is relatively old, isn't it?

Has it resurfaced?
Yes, they apperantly are thinking of coming back with an improved offer.

Roy is said to be battling Harry for Hleb!

Oh he would be good on the cheap.

He just needs to be taught how to shoot.

Source?

Where would we play him though, we have Gerrard, Cole, Maxi, Pacheco, Aqua and Kuyt who can play in the same positions.

On the left.

Ship Babel out.

Joe Cole and Jova have helped me get over Arda Turan. I was hoping we would make an effort to sign him for our left.

Sport.co.uk understands Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp will enter into negotiations with former Arsenal star Aleksander Hleb in the coming days, while a source close to the deal also confirmed that Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has registered his interest with Barcelona for the Belarusian playmaker.

La Liga side Sevilla are also confirmed in the chase for the player, while Fulham boss Mark Hughes has been linked with a short-term move for the 29-year-old.

The former Arsenal star has endured a miserable spell at Barcelona since leaving the Emirates in the summer of 2008. He spent last season on loan at his former club Stuttgart but is eager for a return to the Premier League.

Harry Redknapp has admitted he wants to add three players to his Tottenham Hotspur squad ahead of the north London club's debut season in the Champions League. Having recently failed with a bid for West Ham United’s Scott Parker it now appears that the former Arsenal star is the next name on his list. The White Hart Lane outfit have also been linked with Manchester City pair Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards, as well as Aston Villa’s Ashley Young.

Hleb told Sport.co.uk on Monday that he welcomed the interest of Harry Redknapp and Tottenham stating:

“I have a contract with Barcelona and I must respect that, but I heard about the link with Tottenham Hotspur and I think they are a great club. I appreciate their interest and we will see what happens in the future. “

Adding to the words of his client, agent Oliver Mintzlaff confirmed to Sport.co.uk that the interest from Spurs was official:

“The situation with Alex will be sorted in the coming weeks. Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Alex as well as Sevilla. The player has a contract for two more years with Barcelona and the club would have to be willing to sell him, but both of these clubs interest him.â€

Hleb is expected to leave Barcelona on a pemanent deal rather than a short-term loan move.

He's a fucking moaning cunt and inconsistent. Shouldn't we be considering players that will actually strengthen the squad?
