David Villa was interviewed in todays Marca, and said that he had never spoken to a British journo or newspaper about Torres or his future.

I guess thats what you get for beliving a story in the Daily Star.

Fiorentina Confirm They Have Pulled Out Of Deal For Liverpool's Emiliano Insua
Corvino shuts the door on Insua...

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has confirmed Liverpool's Emiliano Insua will not be joining the club.

Negotiations between Fiorentina and Liverpool had progressed well, but questions over the player's wage demands have scuppered the deal, and the Italians have pulled out.

"Insua? It has been a transfer that has gone on for a long time because of the player," he told the press.

"I had dinner with Liverpool's sporting director until two in the morning. The player is staying at Liverpool.

"The reasons are linked to the player. His demands are high for us. We will not sign Insua."

Corvino also confirmed Juan Manuel Vargas is staying at the Artemio Franchi, despite being linked with Real Madrid and Inter.

"If players don't ask to leave then we will keep them. We want to keep all our players. Vargas? He is staying," said the chief.?

Walter Sabatini Sporting Director of Palermo admits interest in Lucas but says that stories that the club made a rich bid for Lucas are less than accurate. He is not denying that a bid was made.

Story is on goal.com

Palermo are ready to make a renewed bid for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.

The Italians had a £3million bid rejected last month when new Anfield boss Roy Hodgson insisted that Lucas was part of his plans.

The Reds are poised to lose Javier Mascherano and Hodgson would be reluctant to lose another midfielder.

However, Palermo sporting director Walter Sabatini insists the door has not been closed on a deal and hopes to tempt Liverpool with an improved £5m bid.

'There is a dialogue with Liverpool,' said Sabatini. 'I believe there is room to negotiate.'

Fuck off. £5M?
[/quote]

You realise it is them paying us?

I'd want closer to twice that.

He's a decent squad player no matter what anyone says and should only get better. Plus if we were to replace him it'd cost more than £5M

He should be worth more than £5M, but I'm not arsed.

With the Masher money + £5 or 6M for Lucus, I'm convinced we can form a better midfield partnership.

I quite like Lucas, but worth twice 5m?

I just don't see it. He is a decent player, nothing more, and I don't see what he has in the locker to justify a 10 million price tag. If we make our 6m investment back I'll be very happy.

Make my fucking summer. PLEASE.

If that's all they're offering, I'd keep Lucas as 3rd-choice CM. Besides, we need a bit of stability: changing your entire midfield in one summer is not a very good idea.

It is if the remaining CM player is Lucas.

cf changing the entire left flank.

We've re-signed Aurelio though.

I know you hate him, but Lucas isn't a liability in the same way Insua is. He's solid, dependable, without any stand-out qualities, but without any stand-out deficiencies either. Decent squad player, young but now fairly experienced. The reason we looked so shit last season is that he and Mascherano is a combination utterly lacking in creativity. Put Lucas next to Gerrard and he'd probably look OK. And I just think we're running out of money and time to replace all these players.

And we shouldn't have. We should have ensured that Insua had no way back into Anfield.

Same goes for Lucas. He's a dreradful player.

7 million and its a deal. At least we would have made a profit. Add another 2 million and get Defour! Sorted!

Certain players, often without it being their fault, become identified with periods of decline or of failure. They also become associated with a manager and can be seen to embody that manager's failings and style. I'm not saying it's accurate or fair but that's the situation I see with Lucas. In a funny way it'll feel like we're not turning the page until he moves on.
