Liverpool FC manager Roy Hodgson eyes move for Fulham's Paul Konchesky

by Dominic King, Liverpool Echo

?

LIVERPOOL are weighing up a £2.5million swoop for Fulham left-back Paul Konchesky.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson has been anxious to bring in experienced cover in that position since Fabio Aurelio's release and the impending sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina.

Hodgson has explored a number of options, most notably Maynor Figueroa, Wigan Athletic's Honduran international.

However, the pursuit of Figueroa has been complicated by a number of factors - notably the fee it would take to prise him away from the DW Stadium - and the fact that Liverpool's quota of homegrown players is low.

Former England international Konchesky, 29, who scored for West Ham against the Reds in the 2006 FA Cup final, played under Hodgson at Craven Cottage and if Liverpool are able to thrash out a deal, the fee could eventually rise to £5million

iverpool FC manager Roy Hodgson targets Steven Defour and Christian Poulson

ROY HODGSON has placed Christian Poulsen and Steven Defour high on his wanted list as Javier Mascherano inevitable departure moved a step closer.

Having informed Hodgson that he wants to leave the club earlier this week, Mascherano has been axed from the squad which flew out to Germany today for tomorrow's friendly with Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Preliminary discussions have taken place with Inter over a potential transfer to the San Siro and it is understood that the Italian giants have poised to table a £20million bid.

The fact he has been left out of a travelling party that includes Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson merely increases the thought that he has played his last game for the Reds.

Plans are already at an advanced stage to find Mascherano's replacement and the energetic Defour, who starred for Liege when they played Liverpool in a Champions League qualifier two years ago, has much in his favour.

With Liege having no European campaign this season, Defour, 22, - a Belgian international who has been capped 24 times by his country - is anxious to move and sources in Belgium have confirmed he would be available for a fee in the region of 12m euros.

A Liverpool delegation went to watch Defour last night as Liege kicked off their domestic campaign against Zulte Waregem and Hodgson is now debating his next move for a player who has moved into the latter stages of his current contract.

But Hodgson has other targets, among them the Denmark international Poulsen, 30, who played for the Reds boss at FC Copenhagen.

Though the player's representative Joern Bennesen was unavailable last night,

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta said: 'Liverpool have shown interest in Poulsen. But the fact that he did not play in (against Shamrock Rovers) on Thursday is only due to a technical decision.'

One man who definitely won't be leaving Anfield any time soon is Thursday night's two-goal hero David Ngog, who has been persistently inked with a move to West Bromwich Albion all summer. Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo openly admitted recently that he wanted to take Ngog on a season-long loan to the Hawthorns but Hodgson has moved to squash all speculation by stressing he is not on the list of players that Liverpool are looking to offload.

'Nobody at the club has ever told me that we are looking to move him on and I certainly have never heard West Brom's name mentioned,' said Hodgson.

Meanwhile, Liverpool youngster Dani Pacheco was won the Golden Boot at the European Under-19 Championships although his Spain side lost the final 2-1 to hosts France in Caen last night with Reds team-mate Chris Mavinga in opposition.

FORMER Liverpool keeper David James has joined Bristol City

I don't get the doom and gloom around this rumour.
It's not better or worse than the Scharner rumours that were knocking about.
He's steady and is experienced and we have no left backs at the club.
If the deal is there to be done at the right price, sign him up.
Who else are we gonna buy? Wayne Bridge?

There's a huge shortage of decent British LB's, and it's understandable why most people find being linked to Konchesky and Bridge and really depressing.

Letting Warnock leave looks a bigger mistake with each day that passes.

I really hope that we get Defour ahead of Poulsen. £10M for Defour is a bargain!

Could it be that we'll be getting Muntari + £20M? We should push for the minimum of £25M or no deal!

I don't want Muntari. If that's who they're offering in part-ex, I'd tell them to stump up £30 mill.cash or forget it.

I think i feel the same way.

I'd rather we got some players in tbh. I've no faith in cunty and cunto giving up the funds for new players so I'd rather be sure we get someone in straight away.
This time last year we demanded 30m for Alonso when we should have taken 10m plus Sneider or summat.

Well with the rumoured £22.5M for Mascherano, expect a hive of activity next week.

We missed a teick wit Chamakh. He looks some player!

Maybe we should do the same, LTW?

Manchester City offer trial to ex-Barcelona wonderkid Gai Assulin

MANCHESTER CITY will take a look at former Barcelona starlet Gai Assulin this week in one of their surprise transfer swoops of the summer.

The Israeli teenager – who is in the same mould as Argentine magician Lionel Messi – quit the Nou Camp last month because he was struggling to get a game.

City have invited Assulin, 19, and his French agent to Eastlands for talks and hope to sign the youngster if he has fully recovered from a knee injury that slowed down his promising career.

The attacking midfielder forced his way into the Barca side at 16, before missing a whole year with a knee ligament problem.

But he has been left frustrated in the Catalan club's reserves, despite being fit for the past season.

Gifted Assulin was recently a target for Blackburn Rovers, but failed to show up for a training spell at Ewood Park as he wants to sign for a bigger club.

City have a massive squad and are looking to shed many of their senior pros, yet they are also still hunting for the next generation of stars.

Assulin has already been capped by Israel, but does not need a work permit as he has a Spanish passport after spending so long living in his adopted country.

I hate David Villa actually, Spanish players seem very interested in talking about their teammates and what they should do. It's from the Daily Star, so could be bs. But how the hell would Villa know what Chelsea alledegely bid for Nando?

Spanish World Cup hitman David Villa has expressed his surprise that Fernando Torres appears to be staying at Liverpool.

However, he insisted that Torres would leave the Reds next season if they fail to win silverware or reach the Champions League.

“I am actually a little surprised. It looks like Nando is staying. After I spoke with him at the World Cup I thought he would sign for Chelsea," he was quoted as saying by the Star." I think it must only be that Chelsea did not meet Liverpool’s valuation. Because, if they had, I am sure he would have made the move.â€

“The only reason Nando ever left his beloved Atletico was because he knew he had to be at a club where he could win the highest honours – but that has not happened at Liverpool.

“I loved Valencia but I knew I had to leave if I wanted to win the biggest prizes in football.

“This is Liverpool’s last chance to keep him. They have to prove they are capable of challenging on all fronts this season, otherwise he will be gone.â€

“Torres is happy at Liverpool in every sense apart from the football. He loves the city, the fans and the players but he is the best striker in the world. He will go if he has to.

“He would not sign for Manchester City because, for him, the money is not the most important thing.

“But if Liverpool fail to win anything I am sure he will be at Chelsea next summer.â€

“He was promised things at Liverpool that just haven’t happened,†he continued. “They said they would build a squad that would challenge Manchester United for the title – and it just hasn’t happened.

"They sold Xabi Alonso last year and are going to sell Javier Mascherano this summer.

“I can totally understand Nando’s frustration.

“The best all-round striker in the world isn’t playing in the European Cup during his peak years and that’s just not right.

“If the new coach and players win something then I am sure he will sta.

“If not, I am sure he will go and nobody could blame him.â€

Villa can fuck off. And Torres has alot of making up to do really, his attitude given the season we've just had and the way he sulked around for 90% of it fucking stinks.

Torres hasn't come out in the media to squash any rumours, Roy did. Its simple really, he is contracted to us.

If he wants to go then so be it. Cash is king and we'll take truck loads of it for Torres.

I agree. Torres might be staying but its probably just bad timing for his preferred alternatives rather than his love for LFC.

He'll be back tomorrow and saying nice things about us, and then you'll all look a bit silly.

x2 🙂 but villa can fuck off for saying that shit

Fucking hell, I said he'd go for 12-15m. This would be my worst nightmare.

German sensation Mesut Ozil has revealed that he would relish the opportunity to join Manchester United or Chelsea.

The 21-year-old playmaker saw his profile rocket this summer after a number of impressive showings at the World Cup finals.

His creativity helped Germany secure a third-place finish and ignited interest in his services across Europe.

His current employers, Werder Bremen, accept that they now face a battle to keep their prized asset at the club.

As Ozil has just one year remaining on his current contract, they have accepted that they may need to cash-in now rather than lose him for nothing in 12 months time.

It is believed that a bid of around £12million could force their hand, and that sort of money is readily available to the best in the business.

Top clubs in the Premier League would have no problem finding such a sum and Ozil admits he would welcome a switch to England.

"There are four or five clubs in Europe that you would have to say as a player would be a dream to play for," the youngster said in the Daily Star Sunday.

Success

"Manchester United and Chelsea are very much two of them.

"When you are looking at moving clubs it's impossible not to pay attention to the Premier League and even more impossible not to pay attention to Manchester United and Chelsea."

He added: "I am a winner and, when I am looking for a new club, I simply look at where I can be the most successful and where I can win the most trophies.

"If you look at the recent history of Manchester United and Chelsea then it's clear that a player can be very successful there.

"Of course clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are of huge interest and the Premier League's top two clubs are of serious interest to me when the time comes."

While hinting that he could be tempted to take on a new challenge in the near future, Ozil accepts that his future lies in the hands of Bremen.

He said: "I am under contract with Werder for another year and it is impossible for me to say if a deal will be done this summer.

"They may decide that they want to keep me for another season or they may decide to sell me this summer so they can get some money for me. That is up to the club."

Mesut Ozil expects to see out the final year of his contract with Werder Bremen and not follow Germany team-mate Sami Khedira to Real Madrid this summer.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants after turning down a new contract with the Bundesliga club, which means he will be available on a free transfer next summer.

However, Ozil does not expect any offer to tempt him away from Germany a year before his contract expires, like Khedira who left Stuttgart last week.

"I am really, really happy for Sami and I am keeping my fingers crossed for him," Ozil told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

"It is very good for German football that big clubs are interested in German players.

"In recent years, there has only really been Michael Ballack who represented German football at a top club.

"For now, my situation for the next 12 months is clear. Only the facts count and the fact is, I am under contract with Werder.

"I cannot know what comes after that."

Ozil insists a move before the end of his contract will not happen unless Werder insist on selling him.

He added: "I am a friend of honesty. Many people extend their contracts long-term for better conditions, but two weeks later, they want to leave.

"I have never done that but have rather always respected my contract and been happy to fulfil it.

The Greedy twat trying to take the moral high ground. If he stays at Werder now it'll be purely to get a nice big juicy signing on fee with whoever he joins as a free agent next summer.

Cunt or not, Ozil's fucking quality and will prove an absolute bargain for somebody.

Balotellis move to City is about to colapse, he apperantly isn't very set on leaving Italy.
