Thiago.... Ja ????

They've got all the signings we've completed the last few years right. That is if you disregard the fact that they report it after it's officially confirmed.

Reddy has a new piece on Thiago.

I'm not going to link it, she's clearly just used a thesaurus on the whole article and not bothered to proof read it. And used around 3000 words when 10 would do.

Summarised as follows. Liverpool are interested in Thiago, but no formal discussions have happened as yet or planned.

So she says we basically have too many midfielders to accommodate Thiago and transfer will happen only if Gini leaves. The fact that a Liverpool-based journo confirms our interest is also news.

I expect Thiago comes next year and Gini leaves unless Barca steam in with a 40m€ offer for Gini and then Thiago comes our way

That’s what a good few of us have been saying.

I'm going to be really sad when Gini goes. He's been absolutely epic for us. Got us back in the Champions League, instrumental in us winning it eventually and just a phenomenal all around footballer. His mentality is perfect and he's Virgil's best mate on the team.

Thiago might be brilliant too.... but he's never going to be as hard working, strong or durable. Those are very important traits all over our English, European and World Champion squad.

Hmm. Think I've said it before, but Gini provides greater balance for the team for me.
With Hendo, Gini and Fabs there is a clear lack of creativity from midfield and we are overly dependent on our FBs. There is an obvious place for one or even two creative players depending on the opposition.

We are not talking about just a good player here. We are talking about bringing in one the world's premier midfielders, even if he's starting to tip the scales now he has been instrumental, if not sensational at times, in getting Bayern to the final. And in a team that plays a similarly high line to ours.

We can talk about where he's going to fit in but whenever we chat about weaknesses in this team it's always midfield creativity, and it's not as if defensively Thiago is AWOL, he has excellent stats there too.

This is Morse's PotY (where is Morse btw - looks like he's given up on that table) , missing the last few matches. What stands out is that although Gini is a midfield stalwart he is the absolute definition of a water-carrier (bar that Barca game - still wows me) and maybe a few here are looking back through red-coloured glasses.
Fabs can do what he does best and with* Hendo, Keita, Thiago and hopefully Gini we'd have wonderful options depending on the circumstances/injuries. But if push came to shove I'd take Thiago and his creativity (and long ball passes to Mane/Mo) over Gini (sorry mate).

* Yes Millie and Jones are there too but we all know Millie is not a 90 minute man and Jones will be eased in. Elliot and Shaq are not central midfielders.

I wouldn't say we're particularly starved of creativity, to be honest.

The balance in the midfield is pretty perfect as it is. I'd be loathed to tinker with it.

I would if we had to like, but I wouldn't be in a rush to change things. If it ain't broke yada yada...

Good point I'm really looking forward as I have been for a while for Keita to lift off...he was probably one of the best players during the post lockdown games. If Klopp can fine tune him now he's seems clear of injuries I think we might have a really decent creative player.

It’s a no from me. And the idea that our midfield isn’t creative is bollocks. Hendo and Fabs create great chances.

Creative as far as making goals, obviously yes.

Unpredictable as far as putting defenders off balance, not so much. Every PL manager knows our strategy and our strengths, our players are just too good at it for most of them to stop. But we aren't unpredictable, and we are often blunted against the low block.

How many games did we barely scrape by, and if we add some unpredictability would the chances of those games being wins in the future go up? I think yes.

It's a yes for me.

We should be doing everything to keep gini, who has been instrumental in us winning UCL and EPL. Can't believe some are so happy to see him go.

I don't know if going away from our usual transfer policy is a good idea, but if we're thinking about thiago and there's not enough room in the squad. Surely Ox should be the one to get rid of?

I don’t think anyone is happy to get rid of Gini but if he won’t sign a new deal it makes business sense to move him on.

It is also possible nobody is willing to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain or Klopp is happy with him.

She's unbearable.

One of my regrets, as I set up a merch site for qanon, is that I didn't monetise my lfc knowledge a decade or more ago.

Jordan Henderson has 5 assists after 31 match days in season 2019/2020. With these statistics he ranks number 162 in the Premier League. He also has a total of 17 chances created.

It's not even fair to list Fabinho's since he's a defensive midfielder (but it's 2) and that's where his statistics shine and are overall defensively the best in the PL.

More than just midfielders but it does emphasise the point ... no Liverpool MFs in the Top 10 despite romping the league.

Our midfield is not creative. Our fullbacks have 25 assists between two of them, our 3 starting midfielders have 8.

Assist is not the only measure though. Thiago, incredibly, has 0 assists in the Bundesliga this season. But he's their main playmaker and has produced lots of "assists before the assist."
