Thiago.... Ja ????

Assist is not the only measure though. Thiago, incredibly, has 0 assists in the Bundesliga this season. But he's their main playmaker and has produced lots of "assists before the assist."
And Goretzka has more assists than our midfield combined.
Not only the stats telling us that our midfield isn't creative, the eye test says the same.

I watched the video on every touch he made in that game and 90% of them were in the spaces that VVD and Fabinho occupy. These aren't really places we need to improve our (long) passing from, imo. We need a more dynamic player if we have to replace Gini. Someone who will play the 8 role not the 6 role. I really hope we don't deviate from the profile of player we have been signing...

Well... sure... I thought we weren’t signing anyone anyway - so it’s not as if this matters.

This is the interesting part to me, Thiago is not a Gini replacement. He would seem more likely to take Hendos place. Bayern often play with a double pivot which means 2 sitting midfielders who can drop into the space between midfield and defence just as Fabinho does for us. These players often receive the ball from the CB or keeper and then work/conduct the team further up the pitch. Thiagos role isnt that of a creative player, his job is to provide the platform for other midfielders to operate further forward. In Bayerns case thats Muller/Coutinho. If he was to come here I expect we would see some sort of reshuffle with either Keita pushed further forward or Firmino dropping in behind another striker.

Arsenal? Liverpool? Arsenal? Liverpool? Arsenal? Liverpool?
I reckon it’s who’s been smoking the best shit to be honest.

If we're serious then he'll tell arsenal to fuck off. Obv.

Thiago solves a problem cos it means Fabinho could drop back into cb if needed, which makes way more sense than buying a 'spare' CB who can't fight for the first team place.

Obv that's on top of the benefits to the squad I've spoken about previously.

Yeah, you'd think he'd tell Arsenal to fuck off, but the whole London factor is something I'm always wary of with player transfers.

That said, I think he'll join us, and wouldn't totally surprise me if it's announced early next week after the final tomorrow night and that.

The only thing that makes me doubt it is that James Pearce said a club source said it was all fantasy. Which is a strong quote like.

That said I'm convinced it's in the bag & it'll be announced after the CL is done.

Why would he choose Arsenal over BM? Arse are not in the CL

Last big contract? Change of scenery? It's hardly a challenge in Germany, he must be bored of that same medal over & over.

That said I doubt he'd move to a non CL club, cos that's the biggest prize that every player wants.

If we're in for him then no way does he go to Arsenal.

Fabinho at CB is a bit Guardiola-esque.

Yeah, it is. Having one of the best defensive midfielders in the World at cb isnt the way forward, and I doubt Klopp will do that anyway.

I really don't see the logic in having Fabs as 4th choice. I can see him as an emergency CB or 5th choice but this is a key player in our team.
What do we do when players need a rest or when one of our starting CB's is out injured or suspended?
Having Fabs as 4th choice would mean that he has to play more games unless you basically demote him and make him a rotation player.

When you’re getting to 4th choice centre back you’re in emergency territory. So Fabinho would be emergency cover there.

We won’t give a toss about the FA or league cup. We will be playing almost twice a week with a truncated season. The cups will be for those that ended the game yesterday.

To get through the league and European Cup we will mostly use 2 from Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip.

Given Matip’s injury history, I’m not comfortable with that prospect. You’re basically guaranteeing a good chunk of the season when 2 remaining healthy CBs will have to play every minute of every match regardless of form and fitness and an injury to one of them could become a season-wrecking disaster. Let’s not repeat City’s mistakes.

I'm not sure how reliable Pearce's sources are these days

I agree. That is too risky.
Imagine if we got an injury to VVD, let's say for 2-3 months.

It would not be ideal having Fabinho as forth choice centre half.
The reality is though, that even if we do bring one in, there is a fair chance that Fabs will be better than him in that position.

Which is exactly how I think Klopp will view it. Which is why if we have an alternative number 6 it will make little difference having that CB there cos Klopp would play Fab anyway.
