The Worst Liverpool Manager Ever?

I tend to agree but its a tricky one. I certainly wouldn't get rid until he has at least had a chance to turn things around but on the other hand if we are really struggling we can't rule it out simply because 'we don't do that'.
Like you i expect things to improve a lot though.

Were they moaning about calling Roy....."Roy"?

I think it's because 'w oy' is filtered to 'roy'

'w oy' is so last month, 'budgie' is where it's at now

Oh yeah, I'm not dead-set against it, but it would be weird and uncomfortable, and not something I'd welcome.

Even if there is a real risk of being relegated?

There can't be any place for sentiments like that. If the manager is not performing, and there is no justification for the lack of performance, then we should take the decision, however hard it is. To say that it shouldn't even be up for debate till the end of the season is a bit much i think...

Hiding from the responsibility of making that decision will not make the problem go away.

Roy becomes the first manager in Liverpool history to get knocked out by a team from league two.

This season has started well hasn't it?!
[/quote]

We were knocked out by non-league Worcester City in 1959. That's lower than League 2 or the old Div 4.

Sauce?

I've seen Spion on the laptop; I wouldnt quibble over his research, Kris. ;D

Didn't have to google it. I knew it! Cheeky git!

Nah, I was pretty ruthless in wanting Benitez out for gross under performance. I think Hodgson deserves time to stamp his mark on the club, but until then he's got to at least be finishing in the top six.

I think if the manager's CV warrents it (i.e. he is a proven winner) then he should be given time. if the manager isn't a proven winner then that is far more difficult to judge because there is nothing from his past to suggest he can turn things around.
I would also give a manager time if it was obvious he were building towards something (an attacking style of play or blooding talented youngsters).
I think I'm less tolerent when someone doesn't seem to know what he is doing. when gh and rafa first walked through the doors, right from word go you could see what they were building towards.

Agree with the first part, but if we're talking solely about football, the idea that things instantly changed under Rafa is incorrect.

There were many dissenters in his early days. It took until the later stages of the CL for him to star winning the fans affection.

hmmmm, i'm not sure if that's right really. can't speak for everyone, but i think most were happy to have him and give him time to settle. things were difficult in the league, certainly, but the CL campaign (it was his luck i guess that GH qualified for that, as roy doesn't have that opportunity) built plenty of affection, firstly with the great performance against monaco and then gerrard seeing us through against olympiacos.

by the time of the league cup final his portrait was being carried around outside the ground!

I don't know. I remember plenty of criticism when were struggling in the league and the CL group stages, and plenty of people wishing we had Jose instead.

Obviously it all quickly turned around in a way which this is unlikely to do so, at least until the ownership situation is resolved.

However, Hodgson's season with Blackburn would prove to be disastrous, both for the club and for his personal reputation within English football. Hodgson spent £20m in the summer of 1998 to strengthen the Rovers side. A succession of poor buys – notably the £7.5 million Kevin Davies—coupled with injuries and dressing room unrest led to a disastrous start to the season. He was sacked in December 1998 with Rovers at the bottom of the league table. His final game was a home defeat to Southampton.

Well we don't have the injuries, and in his 1st season with Blckburn he got them to 6th, I don't like him or rate him, but he has to have at least until Christmas now he's here, sadly he should never have been appointed in the first place.

You can't manage a top club if this is your body language. I wonder what his actual communication is like.

I think many were very hopeful though; as I was.

Rafa's record in Spain was fantastic.

As for the rumbling of discontent, I think most were of the view that Rafa had a difficult job trying to reshape a weak squad.

exactly. i really don't remember any serious discontent until the bad start in 06/07. as far as i remember the mourinho factor was as irrelevant then as it is now: almost everyone recognised that he'd have been the obvious first choice but that we couldn't compete with abramovich.

I wouldnt go quite so far though; I think many recognised that Mourinho and rafa were the best choices and would have been happy with either.

As I remember, it was Mourinho's antics at Porto that swung it Rafa's way in the end.

i remember wanting the manc slayer. i also remember wanting rafa sacked the season we finished 2nd. at the very least someone should have slapped some sense into him and we'd have won the league.

having said all that he did build a team that peaked, did really well but ultimately fell short, same as houllier. grandpa is not capable of doing this.

Ahh that must be it , cheers Spidey.

The "Budgie" ref has to be one of the best nicknames produced on here in a long while.

Haha, I just love how that was described as 'pretty tame' like anyone was expecting anything to match the *apocalyptic* spaz-outs that this place occasionally enjoys

All forums do i think but many are more heavily moderated than here so the arguments don't get quite as entertaining.

I'm all for giving him a chance to put things right, and our fixture list hasn't done him any favours.

BUT, it's all about the approach isn't it? In our 3 away games we have been extremely negative, granted at difficult grounds, but if you just sit back and try to wheater the storm you're going to get punished.

There are only 5 teams in the Prem that have had less shots on goals than us. Thats a shambles! We're Liverpool Football Club for christ sake. We should try to win every game and attack with that purpose.

His away form with Fulham was horrendous, and it's started pretty much the same for us. We're not gonna win many away games with those tactics.

and if we can't win away we have no chance of finishing top 4. no chance.

Last season result is mainly due to bad away with 5W5W9L and we hope Roy, who had only 1 away win, to fix it. >🙁
