The who should we sign in January thread

Yeah I genuinely think the emergence of R.Williams and Kelleher have put any thoughts of a purchase on the back burner. Of course that may change if another CB goes down.

I think Kelleher's performance would probably obviate the need to buy a new backup keeper.

We definitely need a new CB though. Rhys has been really impressive, but we need 4 fit CBs, and we need to move Fabinho back into midfield. Matip is made of biscuits, and there is no saying how van Dijk and Gomez will be once they return.

Yeah - I think it would be a mistake not to bring in a CB in Jan - but only if they’re top end and capable of slotting in quickly.

Matip can't be relied upon, he his always a game away from a season ending injury. I would look at William Saliba on loan with an option to buy. Divock needs to be loaned out for the rest of the year, we need another goal scoring attacker that can be moulded, if Paston Daka or Ivan Tony is available for £25m or less, they would be worth a punt in my view.

Yeah.. I dont think Saliba is going to slot straight in.. we have that option in Williams or Phillips.

I'd say we need someone who can already challenge Gomez properly, and with time take over for VVD when he grows old, which will be next century.
A 24-26 year old who is really good, but will be in his prime in 3-4 years.

Aouar please, if it is true that French football will be facing a financial squeeze. Even if it's just to have him terrorize City twice every season.

If Klopp loses patience with Keita (if he hasn't already), I can't see a better replacement/upgrade than Aouar. Pep would definitely do everything to have him at City, he needs his new David Silva to revitalize his side – that's another reason why we should get him.

Id assume Guardiola is holding out for Messi on a free in June

With French football being fucked he’s got nowhere else to go. That applies to both messi and the dog shagger.

who is the dog shagger?

Messi will either go to City or PSG, it just depends on waht kind of 'challenge' he wants.
I mean does he want to be like Ronaldo who went to such a difficult situation in Juventus to try and win a league ... or does he want to go to a small English team trying to win the league.

Can't see him going to City. Such a tough league with absolutely no guarantees now that he'd win jack-shit. He's got PSG written all over him (plus it's Paris) if, and it's a huge if, he doesn't stay at Barca where he has power and money and whatever the hell he wants.

I honestly can't call it. I didn't think he'd go to City, but he so nearly did. He seems like he has his head and his heart set on leaving Barca, and the Barca hierarchy are all making noises about how they're skint and Messi's wages are a huge drain.

But then, I don't see how he comes over here to the Prem for the first time at 34. Yet, I also feel he's too good to go to PSG.

I have no idea what's going to happen. I don't want to have to start hating him at City, though. He's already sullied my opinion of him in the summer.

Whether he leaves Barca or not will very much depend on who wins their next presidential election, which I think I read is in January.

If it's that Laporte bloke, then I believe he'll do anything Messi wants to keep him at the club.

If it's not him, then I think he will leave them for City with the plan to play in England for 1 or 2 seasons and then fucking off to their team in the US.

I'm not too fussed about him going to Shitty. I think at 34 he's not going have the same impact on the pitch that he had when he was at his best in Barca. Off the pitch it will be a major coup for Shitty, hell they might even be able to fill the Emptyhad for once.

Seen some mentions of Sven Botman, a CB from Lille being a possible bargain. They're in some sort of financial rut and supposedly Botman's playing style would suit our system perfectly. Not sure why Ajax let him go for just 8mil though.

Most clubs in France are fucked. They signed a massive TV deal last year and the company who bought the rights can't afford the contract. Canal Plus who lost our have offered a much lower deal than when they held the rights too.

Barca are in a worse state than City by some distance. I find it hare to see him staying there and devoting the last years of his career to help them rebuild after wasting the last 3 seasons on their political infighting.

Sven Botman has been immense for Lille. Sadly he was signed this summer, so cant see them letting him go. Financial trouble or not.

Are we signing Mbappe in Jan or at the end of the season?

How’s Camavinga been doing at Rennes this season - he’s been talked up quite a bit.

Long term replacement for Gini?

Hmm instead of thinking of the relative conditions of the clubs, think of him as ..... Gerrard, and the love he had for us regardless of the condition of the club.

I dont think that analogy works though. Hes clearly had enough of the politicking and he would be gone already if he had his way. I think hes hakf out the door already
