The new number 9…

And by 29 needed a zimmer-frame to lumber around Stamford Bridge.

Throwing huge money at signing strikers at exactly the wrong window of their careers was a Chelsea speciality. Higuaín, Falcao, Torres, etc. All names, no legs left.

By the age 26 Shevchenko has scored the winning penalty in the Champions League final, was the Serie A top scorer and CL top scorer and was named in the top 10 of the world’s best players 3 times. With all due respect, Isak has accomplished a lot less so far.

Think Falcao was a loan...but yeah, point valid.

How much of that is a function of who he played for? Newcastle aren't exactly mid-2000s Milan.

I guess the point I'm making is that is Isak that far off in terms of quality? There's no comparison in terms of accomplishments and I'm not intending to suggest there is.

I mean, that’s kind of the point. Leading the line for early 2000’s AC Milan is not the same as playing for Newcastle. Different level of pressure and expectation - Sheva initially had to compete with the likes of Rivaldo and George Weah (both ageing, but still) to win his place. And his main opposition in Italy (and that CL final) was Juventus with prime Buffon, Cannavaro etc, that’s who he was expected to score against - and did.

Nick Harry Kane from Bayern for £60M. Sell our duck egg to Atletico for £40m. More wages but so what? Kane will score 30+ goals a season for the next 4 years no danger.

why would Bayern sell? There's no murmurs they are unhappy with each other, as you said he will score 30+ goals for the next 4 seasons

Kane would only make sense if Salah doesn’t sign a new deal, but even then, I wouldn’t be in favour. It feels like the kind of short-term approach Chelsea used to take and United have been guilty of in recent years. I want us to stick to the strategy that built Klopp’s best team. Whenever we’ve deviated from that, it’s rarely worked out. I’d rather see us finish second or third for a few years if it meant building a younger, stronger side for the long term. It’s a little frustrating that we’ll be in transition just as City are at their weakest, but I don't think that should dictate our decisions.

FSG also just aren't going to blow a wedge on an old injury prone striker either. A driving factor as to why they are entertaining Mo Salah with a large contract is his commercial appeal around the world, on top of his numbers. Kane doesn't have that. It's a non-starter

Will take Kane for free.

The truth is, any top player we bring in will be on high wages, on top of the transfer fee.

Say if we get lucky and sign someone on a 5 year deal and he became successful, we will be priced out of it when his contract expires, AKA the current Konate situation. Every player is after a big pay day these days.

So I'll rather we sweep up the free transfers, similar to what other big clubs are trying to do. At least we won't waste XX millions on transfer fee after 5 years when we get priced out of a contract to our own player.
