The new number 9…

Technically, no... 🙂

Its okay for Messi to do it as he's the GOAT, and when you watch him play he goes around scanning the pitch, players and were to move and then explodes into action. Cunha feels like he's above the rest and only does the necessary work to create a goal for himself, or lazy simply put.

Cunha should be at the very bottom now of any potential short list.

How do you know he’s not working hard scanning the pitch and identifying someone to headbutt?

So how long is the list
Kane
Cunha
Sesko
Ekitike
David
Retegui
Delap
Gyökeres

Not heavily linked with
Vlahović
Osimhen
Biereth
Guessand
Burkardt

Anyone I left out you would include

There is a big difference between a list of players LFC are actually interested in (which is secret and can only be gleaned from us making enquiries or scouting players) and a list of random players linked to LFC by agents and newspaper to sell stories and clicks. I bet only 1 or 2 players on these lists overlap.

I thought I remember us making enquiries for Joao Pedro a few months ago and Biereth possibly too. Not sure if there were any credible links to Ekitike yet, but I’m fairly sure he’s high on the list as is Sesko. Absolutely no suggestion that we were ever interested in Kane, Osimhen, Vlahovic etc.

If we are after a #9 the list isn't going to be huge. Check the age of many of those players who sit in the top 5, top goal scorers in their respective league many of them are 28+, as consequence I have ruled them out

Do you do this like everyday?

I get it's shitty boring internationals but fuck a duck up the muck, come on.

Yeah, we all want Isak but if that is getting dragged out then I really hope we move quickly to the likes of Ekitike.
Can’t have a summer were we spend months trying to get a player that end up not leaving again.

I understand that argument but I'm not sure I agree. Similar things were being said when those Southampton cnuts were playing their nasty little games over the Virgil deal. Does anyone think we'd be where we are now if we had gone for a quicker alternative signing? 'Coz I don't, for one.

Thats a bit different though. We're in the middle of a rebuild and if we let this get dragged out until August we will most likely have no nr 9 and missed out on other targets. Thats why I think there has to be a internal deadline for this type of signing.

I think Virgil was THE target, and no one else would have sufficed. And that makes sense as he was everything we needed in a CB.

I don't think Isak is THE target, more a target. There's no way we'll pay over 100m for him. Not a chance in hell. So either we find out newcastles negotiation tactics early, or we walk away. We're probably leaking stories we're interested so that it might make him agitate for a move.

I like Isak, I really do, but 10 years ago he would have been just another striker.
He hasn't really done anything special except his job - which is to score goals.
It's just that now for some reason the pool of strikers has somehow dried up and we've reached the point where we as fans are even starting to glance at a 30 year old in Germany as the solution to our problems.

I mean is it really that bad out there?

Newcastle making the CL or not will also probably be a factor. At least in terms of asking price.

But it also arguably makes their job of getting replacements easier. I don't know their finances and proximity to PSR etc. but it might actually be in their interest to get 100m for Isak and invest into multiple quality players elsewhere e.g. CB and CF

I would have thought their need to sell would be higher without the extra income.
If they get CL you could see them saying fuck it and keeping him.

I’d have no issue spending whatever it takes to land Isak if the squad was already settled and complete, but my concern is there may be so much work to do in attack to justify such a heavy investment without it affecting other areas. Feasibly Salah, Núñez, and Jota could all be on an exit list, and if Barcelona offer enough, Diaz might as well. Not all of them will go, but until we know how many attacking positions need filling and what funds are available, it’s impossible to say how much should be allocated for a single forward. Even the club probably doesn’t have a clear picture yet.

It looks like this summer will be highly reactive, with our moves likely shaped by the offers that come in before we execute our own plans. One thing’s for sure, Hughes is in for his busiest window yet. He’d better be prepared now because he’s got some long days and nights on the phone ahead of him.

We should be trying to get the next Isak for half the price

Why have scouts it you're only going to get players you see on Match of the Day?

Dunno. Maybe it's heresy, maybe I need to go watch some old highlights, but is Isak that far off the likes of Crespo or Shevchenko?

I'll admit he's not R9 or even peak Torres but maybe we're not giving enough credit here.

By the age 26 Shevchenko has scored the winning penalty in the Champions League final, was the Serie A top scorer and CL top scorer and was named in the top 10 of the world’s best players 3 times. With all due respect, Isak has accomplished a lot less so far.
