It is bothering me how much Brendan is towing the SoS line, it's out of character.
At the risk of a shoeing, can I just say it's "toeing"?
Haha, you know, I actually learned it was 'toeing' on this very website a while back & remember being surprised at the time (though it does make sense), & obv' since forgot!

I respect the fact that Kenny was entitled to suggest to the board that he wanted to be considered, and it won't affect my relationship with him at all," said Hodgson.

"I want to offer Kenny a new, expanded role, a very important title - head of football development.

"I believe Ken can make the perfect bridge, with his football knowledge between the academy and the training ground, and we should never forget the very important role he will always do as an ambassador.

"I think I will work quite closely with him. It's better to have Kenny Dalglish at the club for the long term, maybe 15 years just like Sir Bobby Charlton has been at Manchester United".

So Woy's parroting Purslow-approved scripts already

Super!

You really have joined SoS havent you!

BTW, you missed off the last line, which is not only humble, but quite realistic from Roy, & I thought you'd cling to as proof a new manager may not be that far away:

"There are so many roles that man can play to help Liverpool FC and that will outlive my tenure at the club. There's no question about that"

I was speaking to one of your former players the other week - Kevin Gallacher. He was telling me that your big strength is organisation. Do you feel that is what Liverpool need at this period of time?

No, not necessarily. I think that all football managers' major task is to organize the team so that you can get the best out of the individual. What clubs of this stature really need is quality players that can bring about the results that the club wants. Organisation alone, unfortunately, will not be able to do that. This team has been well organised for a long, long time - both under Houllier and Benitez. So, it is not only that aspect. Sometimes, when some of the best players are not available to you, organisation can get you a few points that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I am sure that everyone at Liverpool Football Club will agree with me whenever I say that the first target is to try and keep your best players you have, and then to try and find some players to complement them. If we are to achieve the goals that Liverpool Football Club must always set, we are not going to do that on organisation alone.
What a great answer.
Certainly is. And while I don't think Roy is the type to publicly criticise other managers, especially those of this football club, it's fairly clear there that he's pointing out a flaw we all knew was there under Rafa and Ged.
Ha, but he never said over-organised 😉

Sack him. Sack the cunt. He hasn't even won a game yet. Sack Woy. He's got a wisp you know. How very dare Purslow appoint a manager with a lisp. It's not the fucking Liverpool way.

CUNTS

It's been a good year for Roy. Manager of Liverpool and his free bus pass! Bonus! In the spirit of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer, I had a look over on Redcafe and they do not seem too happy with this appointment which surprised me a little.

Seems like they really believed rafa was mentally ill, so Roy is viewed as worryingly sane and a vast improvement. Could be right.

Hodgson offers Dalglish new role

New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has offered Kop legend Kenny Dalglish a new, enhanced role after beating the Scot to the top job at Anfield.

Dalglish, 59, who had been asked to identify candidates to replace Rafael Benitez, had wanted a return to the role he had between 1985 and 1991.

But after Hodgson was unveiled as manager, there was at least a sweetener for the club's one-time 118-goal hero.

Hodgson said: "When you have a resource like Ken it's best to use it properly."

Club chairman Martin Broughton, sitting alongside former Fulham boss Hodgson at Anfield, made no secret of Dalglish's plans to end his current ambassadorial role at Liverpool and return to full-time management.

Broughton said: "Kenny put his name in for the job and we appreciated the fact he wanted to do it but he was never a candidate. He is happy in his current ambassadorial role."

But on the same day fan website KopTalk claimed Dalglish would now walk away from Liverpool, the former Scottish international gave no suggestion that would happen.

Dalglish told the Daily Mail: "I look very favourably on the appointment. I have known Roy a long time and have a great respect for him. We've not had detailed conversations yet but my interests are in Liverpool."

And Hodgson, 62, elaborated on how he would try to build a relationship with Dalglish.

"I respect the fact that Kenny was entitled to suggest to the board that he wanted to be considered, and it won't affect my relationship with him at all," said Hodgson.

"I want to offer Kenny a new, expanded role, a very important title - head of football development.

"I believe Ken can make the perfect bridge, with his football knowledge between the academy and the training ground, and we should never forget the very important role he will always do as an ambassador.
Well this has been done to death, but the simple fact of the matter is it isnt in anyones benefit to sell the best players in the team. The Owners arent interested in the league or our position in it, they are interested in the saleable value of their asset. If they sell 80m of players to pay the banks that will devalue their product by far more than that in the market place. It just makes no sense in any way.
They are seeking the best price for the club and that will be a lot less without the best players in it and the opportunity to return to the champions league in a season.

In addition this misconception that Roy Hodgson is some kind of Clive Dunn character shambling around melwood in a daze and nodding quietly as Purslow and Broughton sell his players is fucking ridiculous. Why would he come here if he didnt believe he had a chance of achieving something? Why not overachieve in London rather than sit quietly while his career is made a laughing stock in Liverpool. The SOS doom mongering has infected all of Liverpool and her fans with some ott almost insane reasoning.

Can't quote properly.

Champions league Liverpool will be worth a lot more than a gerrard and torres-less mid table side, so I don't see the value in appointing a manager who you think will encourage failure.

I'm hoping the american arseholes have given up and left everything up to the new chIrmen, and I have no reason to suspect they are not working in the clubs best interests.

Im so sick reading the same ridiculous shite from some mongy bellends who arent willing to see any reason.
Stripping assets from an entity you intend to sell to cover debt set against the asset itself is just a fucking insane notion.

And another thing, what the fuck would Kenny do differently? If they intend to asset strip what exactly would Kenny do to stop them?
Or Pellegrino or whoever the fuck ever.

I honestly thought that if SCM was starved of common sense any longer that we would turn into RAWK MKII. Nice to know that isn't the case.

And Asset stripping is predicated on the notion that the company is undervalued so if you sell the underlying assets you'll realise more money.

Now given the value of the club has varied between 400m and 800m can anyone do the maths for me and show me how selling the players would get that much ?

There's also the fact that with the board comprised as it is, nobody is going to be allowed to take money out of the club. RBS are in effect in a holding pattern, they've agreed to hold off on demanding repayment while a buyer is sought, no doubt the interest is racking up for them. The Yanks need the approval of the Board, and probably RBS too, to take money out of the club.

That said if you were planning for the long term right now, which we clearly aren't given the appointment of Roy and the immediate CL qualification goal, it would be preferable to sell all the big money players who have failed to take us to the league and reinvest in more younger and slightly cheaper talent with the potential to tkae us to the league within 3-4 years.

But if they don't, Kenny's appointment would have given us by far the best chance of holding on to Gerrard (hence probably also Torres, for whom Gerrard's decision could well be very influential). You yourself have pointed out - rightly IMO - how loopy it is to see an asset-stripping plot behind what's going on. It would be equally loopy to deny that the King would have been the best bet to persuade our two most important players to stick around. (I take Ross' point about reinvesting the proceeds from their sale, but if these two go it'll take us a sight more than 3/4 years to win the league.)

The way things stand we haven't lost Kenny, and actually Broughton (although he doesn't come across wonderfully) talks a lot of sense.

I think he wants to do a decent job and enhance his reputation as the reward.

I don't think asset stripping is on the cards yet.

In theory yes, but that's using the NBA school of thought, & unless you have an exceptionally good manager that's nearly impossible to do in football (Fergie & Wenger's policy of selling players at or just past their peak works to a point, but Fergie's less so in recent years, with his spending increasing, & Wenger's with diminishing returns).

Roy Hodgson insists his Anfield arrival will not stop him quaffing wine with Sir Alex Ferguson – even if he has to do it in secret.

New Liverpool boss Hodgson is big mates with Ferguson and insists his friendship will not be affected by the biggest rivalry in English football. Ferguson famously feuded with previous Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez as their mutual loathing exploded.

But Hodgson is adamant that the scrap for a record 19th title will not see him fall out with Ferguson.

He joked: “I know Sir Alex is not really a Liverpool fan so I’m a bit concerned about my relationship with him.

“I sincerely hope he forgives me for moving North and will welcome the fact that we can have a glass of wine, maybe in secret, together.

“I’ve always believed you don’t have battles with other managers. Football teams battle with football teams, clubs battle with clubs.â€

Hodgson insists he will bring the good times back to Liverpool – by restoring old traditions on the field.

He added: “I’ve always liked the things Liverpool were famous for in their heyday.Pass and move, that was always the mantra.â€

Errr.. You might wanna make an exception there, Roy.

asset stripping may not happen but to suggest it isn't even a possiblity is sticking your head in the sand imho. anyway, we'll see come august.
