I won't be able to get on-line later (after we've beaten Arsenal) so thought i'd start this now..

I still haven't ruled us out of a title challenge. Should we beat Arsenal today we'll be 10 points off Chelsea and 7 off the stuttering Scum. We've undergone an horrendous run of form, significant injuries and some rank bad luck and yet we'd only be 10 points off the top.

Given Torres and Gerrard are back, Aquilani will start to make an improvement on our central midfield and our defensive solidity continues to return, I see no reason why we can't be 6-8 points off the top come january. Chelsea would then lose some key players (in addition to the loss of Essien recently) and unless Man Utd splash some cash in january, they'll continue to lack their usual awesome firepower (the Ronaldo shaped black-hole continues). I'd also expect, whatever the comings and goings, we'll end january with at least one genuine back-up striker to Torres.

It's a longshot of course, but it's too soon to be joining the media hyperbole in writing us out of any title challenge.

Come on you Reds!

Unless the title is taken down with a considerably lower total of points than any other season in the last 5 years, then I still think it will be nigh on impossible regardless of any sort of run :'(.

I just wrote this elsewhere, what we really need right now starting today is the same team that kick down the doors at old trafford last season and raped and pillaged to suddenly wake up and give Arsenal a humping.

Of course it's still possible to do it but we look so disjointed and out of sorts, yesterdays results must have been encouraging for the players but we need to running full tilt now to get back anywhere near the mix, can we do that with every player out of form? probably not.... do strange things happen in football?

defo.

Confidence is required and that is obtained via winning and doing it again and again. At the minute we seem almost incapable of winning but that may well change i'm just hoping tha Stevie and Nando are as pissed off and angry as the rest of us are and go and show it by smacking in some fucking goals.

It will be a low title total this year im sure of it.

The only thing I'll say is that it will be very close this year, as everyone can beat everyone.

It may well be a very low total amount of points that win it.

It certainly looks that way. I can't remember the last time that at this point in the season, all of the "big four" had lost at least 3 games.

Come on Brendan you awful fucker .... have a mince pie early chief .... g'wan.

Maybe two.

Bit of tinsel.

I have been thinking to myself in recent weeks that we can still do this.
Our rivals are dropping points and the optimist in me believes that we will hit some form and start to pick up points.
Our next 4/5 fixtures should see 4/5 victories and by the end of that we could be much closer to the top.

WE CAN FUCKING DO THIS! C'MON YOU REDMEN.

I am normally considered to be quite a positive person.. In this scenario however...

We will be lucky to finish 4th.

There is no way in hell we can win every game from here on in..

We only have Torres as a striker and teams have tried to figure him out.. They do a very good job of getting him isolated which is so frustrating to watch yet he still manages to score.. Unfortunately this method will not help us win games comfortably and although Torres might save our arses a lot we simply cannot rely on the poor bastard to get us out of the shit week in week out...

We are still a great club with a great squad but this season is over as far as the title is concerned. We may start closing the gap against Chelsea and Man Utd but i can just see us bottling it as soon as the pressure starts to rise again.

How can you say we have a great squad when there is no adequate striker other than Torres, no fit, decent CM other than Mascherano and not one player good enough to play LB or LM?

Our squad is dogshit

No tinsel or mince pies in my house!

Yuck

Oh! But he was a tight-fisted hand at the grind-stone, Brendan! a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, Covetous, old sinner! Hard and sharp as flint, from Which no steel had ever struck out generous fire, secret, and self-contained, and solitary as an oyster. The cold within him froze his old features, Nippes his pointed nose, shrivelled his cheek, stiffened his gait, made his eyes red, his thin lips blue; and spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice. A frosty rime was on his head, and on his eyebrows, and his wiry chin. He carries his own low temperature always about with him, he iced his office in the dogdays, and did not thaw it one degree at Christmas.

😉

Well.. same team excluding Alonso did okay last season.

There is obvious room for improvements in our squad and id be an idiot to not see that. However the squad we have should still be capable of mounting some kind of challenge

Tinsel and mince pies are about the only things I don't approve of! The rest of the house is full of Yuletide deccoes and nick-nacks

I love Chrimbo

What were we talking about?

thats what we were talking about...

you are right mind you sure enough...

Lets beat this Arsenal shower of shite anyway

First we have to start winning and putting together a good run of wins.
Only then we can look at the leaders and see what the gap is.

Any talk about closing on the leaders and challenging at the top is way premature currently.

I believe we can still mount a title challenge with the players we currently have at our disposal.

Possible, but very difficult.

The season starts every single week for us.

Then we lose. And then it starts again.

It's all very confusing.

Ha ha.. about right I reckon...

*Today it REALLY starts mind....

Buddah, I'm an eternal optimist but you beat me hands down. This is football and anything is possible. A long winning run will add credence to your possibilities. One win at time.
