The Suarez/Evra Racism Row

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

It's very fishy that the FA's commission is going to take so long to produce their written judgement. If the punishment meted out to Suarez is based on factual evidence, then the information is all there and it should be possible to write it up straight away. What's the difficulty?

I think there is a possibility that the FA will end up with egg on their faces over this.

That young boy's turned famous overnight.

They have to produce long convoluted document where every nuances of body language, every tears that Evra shed because of the abuse, how Fergie was being indignant, proof read the 10 page document, ten times to make sure there is no spelling error, grammatical error, racially correct. That will take One whole month. Easy money for the QC.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

Doesnt help that the old Stoke fella on the panel is a veeery good mate of Fergie.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

i see Alan Hansen is another big racist ! we're full of them .

From what I have read we had an entitlement to challenge the makeup of the committee.

The BBC pundit - who is paid an enormous £40,000 per show - caused controversy after describing black players as 'coloured' when discussing the current John Terry and Luis Suarez racism rows.

Fellow pundit Lee Dixon looked on in disdain as former Liverpool defender Hansen, 56, said: ‘I think there’s a lot of coloured players in all the major teams and there are lots of coloured players who are probably the best in the Premier League.

rohan ricketts is after him now .

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

If there really is to be a long delay in releasing the transcript then I can see the case unraveling. The longer the delay the more doubt there will be about the verdict and the FA's motives. Coming to a verdict and then being unable to back it up leaves the FA open to legal challenges.

That said, of course, the damage has already been done. The player has been condemned, is now the subject of abuse and slurs; the club has been branded as intemporate and the fans ridiculed for their unconditional support. People forget the fact that the club saw and heard 'the evidence' and obviously dispute the outcome and are keen for the public to see the fact in the public domain.

The fact that the FA has allowed this situation to develop for the lack of explaining the verdict quickly and simply is a travesty for a governing body. The FA needs sanction for failing in it's duties, if you mete out 'justice' then it has to be seen why.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

Oh Neil!

Coloured is a dated term which is no longer considered politically correct, a lot of older people still use it though, innocently enough

I was wondering that too, but was afraid to say it.

Yeh since when? What the hell is racist about calling people coloured, it's fucking pathetic. I really hate what our culture is turning into, it seems everyone is overly eager to label someone as racist when they're quite clearly not.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

Frustrating though it is for the written judgment to take this long to emerge, this is actually pretty standard in legal cases, and the guy writing it is a QC. He'll be taking a lot of care not only over the content but also over the precise wording, plus he has to check it with the other panel members (though I don't suppose Denis Smith will read through every dot and comma) before sending it to the FA, which will probably take a butcher's at it as well before it's finally published. Nobody who's followed the debate on here will be in any doubt about my views on the whole thing, but this particular delay actually isn't unexpected or sinister. Nor, I'm afraid, will it help us much, except maybe in the fact that it delays the start of any suspension. If the appeal goes against us, we then go to court over it and we win, Luis might never have to miss a game at all.

Absolutely. This kind of idiocy does more harm than anything to the cause of anti-racism.

Ironically, your question cannot be answered without asking "in which country?"

If there is this much confusion about acceptable terms in our own language imagine the confusion of a foreigner (say a Uruguayan).

This is a mess and a godsend for the pedants/self-righteous/politically correct.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

Neil, if that's the case it would apply to the FA's appeal procedure. If we take the matter to court everything's up for review. and we can't do that without exhausting the appeal procedure first.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

Yeah but they're not coloured, they're black

i've known for years and years that coloured isn't acceptable anymore

Coloured is probably the best description for everyone. Let's face it who can deny that they're not coloured?
