The sending off

Dont think its a red card. Neither does Neville, Henry or Clattenburg, and they are better equipped then us to make the right call on this.

Its a case of the injury sustained getting Mane sent off in my opinion. If the keeper jumps right up again and is ready to play, Moss would have given a yellow, that I'm quite certain of.

As someone on Sky pointed out. When the goalkeeper is outside of the box he's an outfield player, and should be considered as that in this situation.

I hope we appeal. If nothing just to fuck with all my Manc mates giving me shite for the sending off today.

Stop being a dickhead. The whole of the sky sports panel said it was a red. Toure, Henry and Carragher.

Manè hit someone in the face. With his boot. And knocked him out. A red all day long.
He collided with him.
The keeper put himself in that position bravely and got done by an accident.
The rules state that it's a yellow card.
That's it if we play by the rules isn't it.

Do not appeal the decision. The FA can add and extra game ban meaning he'd miss the United game.

Exactly. Just because Ederson stayed down as he did Moss must have felt like a million dollars. Enough to confront Klopp who was just having a surprising calm conversation with the 4th official.

Accident or not Mane's foot was way high catching him in the face.

Had Aguero done that to mignolet would you think the same?

He endangered an opponent.

Fuck it. Let people break legs provided it wasn't intentional and kept eyes on the ball.

Of course it's a red. He only has eyes for the ball and there was absolutely no malice in it, but a clear red.

Remember the "ghost goal" by Garcia? Baros had that jump and high kick before he clattered into the keeper? That was a non event, not even a foul.

In this case it was mistimed and should be a yellow.

Players should be allowed to try to go for a ball with their leg regardless. If not all overhead kick goals will be deemed fouls.

There was no intention to hurt him he was going for the ball

It was a 50/50 and the keeper put himself in that danger by bravely winning the ball.
You've gone hyperbole with your comments so I guess we'll agree to disagree.

Strange debate. He obviously didn't have an intent to damage, but when you kick someone in the face six feet up, you can't be too surprised to see a red.

And that chap that registered a few days after Leo got banned, and talks in the same angry way as Leo...

First sentence: perhaps not in practical terms, but that doesn't change the fact - and it IS a fact - that, under the rules as they stand, the bolded bit means the ref made a mistake.

Second sentence: er, yeah, I had one too but the wheels came off. 😉

Yes, exactly. At that moment he wasn't a goalkeeper, he was a defender who didn't know how to head a ball. Moss is really an appalling ref. Like Lee Mason, it's all attitude and pomposity with him. He should do us all a favour and go off and be a prison warden or a policeman, which is what he behaves like anyway.

Yellow, especially given the score and HT looming. It immediately became a game killer, which is something that should factor in when it costs £100+ for a couple of peeps to go watch a match.

I think the sending off falls under these rules, in that he endangered the safety of another player.

SENDING-OFF OFFENCES

A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:
  • serious foul play

SERIOUS FOUL PLAY

A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Guardiola:
“The action is hard. I cannot think a player like Mane is going to make a challenge this hard to the face (deliberately) so I think he followed the ball. But the action is dangerous.
“I don’t know if it is red card or not but I am pretty sure it was not a red card for KW (Kyle Walker) against Everton.

Well not many neutrals go to the game and it made the majority of the stadium happy at least ...

100% red. And it's very cut and dry. The lack of intent is irrelevant. It was a high boot, his studs were showing and he caught the keeper in the face. If that happened at our end we'd be screaming for a red card.

Bullshit red card. We see plenty situations were someone clash heads because one is late into the duell, and they don't even get booked. Unlucky both of them but never a sending off.

I always find debates like this funny as fuck. Like whan one of our lads dives and everyone claims there was contact and stupid shit like that.

They both went up for the ball, keeper with his head, Mane with his foot. Keeper won the race, Mane kicked him in the face with his studs. He was late in the challenge and it was a high challenge. It makes zero difference about intent. The only debate would be had he toe ended the ball first under which circumstances I would tend to suggest it should be a yellow. But if you MISS the ball and in the follow through wipe out the player its a red card.
As I said in the thread if it was knee high not one person on here would complain about a red. This is HEAD high and we are trying to call foul of the ref.
He didnt even have a choice. Mane mistimed a challenge and as a result a player required oxygen and to be substituted.

Ive never heard so much crap over a very simple decision. Oh wait I have. On here. Loads of times.

Sorry but I don't think that's right. Rule 12 says that it covers fouls which are "careless, reckless or use excessive force" - in other words, under the rule, a foul can't be both careless/reckless AND constitute use of excessive force. Mane's tackle was clearly reckless, so it follows that the bit about "excessive force" didn't apply and the rule makes it clear that recklessness gets a yellow card, not a red one.
