The search for a new DM

He’ll reject Saudi as he wants to go to Chelsea.

Meanwhile we’re a little over a week till we play these wankers and we’re going into a new season again short of options so well done LFC, hope you’re fucking proud of yourselves.

I'm really concerned about where we stand on the DM issue, for me it's the most under-rated position on the pitch.
Fabinho, in-form, was transformational for us.
Kante won the league with fucking Leicester, then went to Chelsea and won it again.
United signed Casemiro and improved to third in the league, albeit via a 7-0 humping by us.
The year we won the league, City were forced to play Fernandinho at centre-half and their form suffered while we ran away with things.
They'd brought in Rodri, he struggled at first but once he settled they were unbeatable again (IMHO Rodri is a fucking great footballer).
The year we tried to defend the league, we were forced to play Fabinho at centre-half and suffered, only improving when we took a chance on Nat and Rhys at the back and moved Fabinho back to his best position.
Arsenal get most of a full season out of Partey and they finish second.
Istanbul - Didi comes on at half time, the rest is glorious history.
So City have Rodri, United have Casemiro, Newcastle have Guimaraes, Arsenal have Partey and Rice. We have no-one.
So this needs sorting, ASAFP.

It needed sorting a month ago. It was the most important part of our midfield rebuild.

Unless we can pull off a last-minute 80M sensational signing of Tchouameni, I don't think a ready-made solution in this market exists... Great #6's are rare and transformational like you say, and we are far from the only big club who needs one.

That's why Southampton have us bent over a barrel.

We need to take our medicine. Pay the price and then stick with this kid when he gets made look a mug on occasion.

If you ask @StevieM , he will tell you to play the kids as there is no one suitable around

Forget a great number 6, problem is that we don't even have a decent one. If we don't sign one this window, we will be putting all our eggs in the Bajcetic basket. I like him but that is a lot of games for a young player coming off a serious injury.

I still don’t have a clue why we courted Bellingham for 2yrs. What were gonna buy him with? Magic beans?
Feels like this year, the money we spent on Szbo is the money we should have priortised in other areas which needed urgent repair and that’s probably on Klopp and recruitment team. Wonder if the 60m buy out fee and deadline effectively forced us into it rather grab a DM first.
I really don’t want excuses from Klopp and co in Mid Aug about surprised exits of Hendo and Fab when we still had 6 weeks to get replacements for them.

I don't need to ask him, @StevieM - gives me assurances beyond my years, proper FSG spokesman and a top red. Latest is that we don't just want to have the best net spend as a PL club. We also want the best net player count in the PL - we are well on our way : - 6 main players went out in Bobby, Ox, Naby, Milner, Hendo, and Fabinho - and we have 2 players in thus far - our net player count is now -4 - no other PL club can ever catch us.

Sometimes I wonder if you need help getting dressed in the morning.

Just curious, what is this top reds gathering and why is Stevie M associated with that?

I forgot how hard this time of the year is for you, when all you can do is stamp you feet and huff when you can’t get everything you want.

All valid points, mate. But is Lavia the transformative defensive midfielder that Kanté, Fernandinho, Fabinho and Rhodes were? We seem not to think so if we’ve dragged this one for so long and me thinks there’s another one in the works. Like last year, though, we’ve likely left it too late.

Whenever we’re linked with a player, most of the fanbase treat that player as the next big thing with the usual “… just pay the *expletive* however many millions …”

And while we’re at it, we have some familiar and more concerning problems at the back.

Yeah, many people are mentioning him. Definitely has good qualities, but probably a couple of years at least from being able to translate them to EPL football if ever. Will probably play in Spain. Good genes!

All things considered, Lavia is the best of the realistic options in this sparse #6 market. Just get it done.

I'm not sure Lavia is THE answer, but at least he is AN answer.
And I think a lot of our problems at the back were made worse by not having an effective shield in front of the centre halves last year.
It''s a big ask for a young player to come in and sort all that out, and if we do sign Lavia and throw him straight in then it's sink or swim for him, which I think is too much pressure for a young kid, unless there's an exceptional strength of character there..
I'm hoping the scouts can pull something out of the bag, maybe an older player who can handle that pressure for a few years, giving Lavia or Bajcetic time to blossom.

You'd be hard pressed to find any as good the Frenchman, but there are very good 6s who can do the job.

Alvarez would be the standout candidate. I've mentioned Weiffer and Fofana. You have his colleague Camara at Monaco. Its a pity we don't get players from the French League anymore

If we’re looking for a “destroyer,” why not go back for Manu Kone?

Because he is the French Naby. Not even sure he is back from injury
