The search for a new DM

Don't even know the concept or what it entails & I really cba with anything general chat...purely here for the football, the only thing I know is we have a thread with that title.

It’s an online football management game where you develop a team by coaching, with a limited budget to buy then set tactics to try to outwit your opponent.

That’s an oversimplified version.

You’d love it - after a shit season I totally decimated my team, selling everyone over the age of 27 to whoever would take them, and signed a pile of promising U21’s.

Of course… I spent the season getting humped - but it will work in the end… in about 5 seasons time.

Fabinho traveling to meet up with his new team today appaz, and Hendo said his goodbyes at the AXA.
Guessing there will be movement on incomings as the players out are confirmed.

I fear Lavia will be the last of the midfield additions unless we make some late move for Gravenberch/Kimmich. The market for DM's or holding players doesn't appear in the best of shape and history tells us we would rather go into the season light than sign a player we're not super keen on. The majority of links have completely died a death.

Can't say I've seen much of Lavia. He's going to need as much patience as Bajectic - it's going to be pretty evident we'll be paying a chunk for his potential rather than his current ability. Hopefully, he will be more effective in shutting down counterattacks with his pace, tenacity and youth, and being a city graduate, I would expect him to be technically able. The main challenge is likely going to be adapting his positional play, knowing when the press is, adjusting to covering for an inverted fullback, etc. The fact Trent will likely be sat alongside him shifts much of the difficulty of the 6 to Konate. In essence, we're replacing the position that allowed Fabinho to recover some form at the end of last year rather than the lone 6 position he was playing before February. That does give me some reassurance a younger player can adapt and thrive in that context. The problem is we're reliant on Konate's fitness to make the whole thing work.

Which is why another good CB is a priority. If we cannot land Colwill, rather than settle for an inferior LCB option we could maybe switch our attention to a RCB or even a defensively-oriented RB. I think it’s possible that Colwill stays at Chelsea, but refuses to sign a deal and we will be able to have another run at him next summer.

Good post.

This is our midfield if all the OAPs leave and we sign Lavia:

MacAllister - 24
Szoboszlai - 22
Jones - 22
Elliot - 20
Lavia - 19
Bajcetic - 18

That is a very young and raw midfield.

The fact that we've also got massive warning signs blinking over our defence as well... well, yeah, there is a lot than can go wrong this season.

Can’t be worse than last year, can it? Pretty much every midfielder with a breath in them overran ours at will. Until we brought in a sprog in Bajčetić. In fact I see improvements if only in the ability to actually move.

You can certainly see why Kimmich and Phillips are linked in addition to Lavia, sounds like a good idea to balance the experience. What’s the deal with Kimmich though, why would they let him go?

Well, yeah, I'd take that over another season with the old lot... but... the defensive side of things is looking pretty frail. And that was one of the main things we all wanted to address this summer.

Lavia is an oppurtunity to good to turn down in terms of what he can become as a player. Remember that we wanted him before the two departures.

We’ll be signing one more midfielder. The transfer market is in constant change and an Mbappe move could see some players become available that maybe havent been earlier in the window.

He fell out badly with the previous coach, although things are meant to be better with Tuchel.

I guess Bayern might need cash for Kane and have Gravenberch waiting in the wings, but that's just me idly speculating.

Good at least it’s not for reasons of footballing decline then. He kind of sounds perfect aside from what it’ll cost.

As far as I know it’s the opposite - Kimmich was one of the trusted lieutenants of Nagelsmann and was extremely upset by his firing. He also damaged his standing in the club by refusing to get vaccinated against COVID resulting in having to miss games when the team really needed him. Not sure how his relationship with Tuchel is progressing, but I suspect there is not a lot of trust between the two.
