The race

Countdown to #20 - brought to you by Kelly's Dirty Slots and Slot's Bottling Boys.

Points to go: 11
Games to go: 7
I'm annoyed because now we could have won the league without needing anything away to Chelsea before the arsenal game.

Yeah, it's tough to see them dropping any points before they come to us, but you never know, especially with Madrid looking large for them. One draw in any of their next three matches, and we should - SHOULD - be able to wrap it all up at home to Spursy.

Honestly I think they will drop points, but we'll also drop points. We could have had this title wrapped up so easily and so early if we acted like we wanted to win it, rather than acting like we have won it.

I agree that we'll drop more points, of course... Not sure that it's in either of the next two matches, though.

Lets be honest, we're all just suffering from PTSD because of our recent history in title races.
I'm mostly disappointed because we've just made it more complicated. Had we beaten Fulham, Arsenal would have given up. Now we're giving them hope and they might just field a strong team against Brentford.

Not if they are still in the tie against Madrid.

I predict Arsenal getting 15 points out of 21.

Yeah - I’ve sad for a while now that I don’t think they get to 80 points.

I think we’re 2 wins from actually winning it, even though it won’t be mathematically certain.

The funny thing will be that we’ll probably end up winning the league this year with only a few more points than finishing third last year.

It's not funny really. We aren't any better than last year. We are a little different, but not much.

Funny peculiar rather than funny haha.

To be honest that’s fine - the average points total to win the league since the EPL started is about 88 - with half of Ferguson’s wins with point scores under 84 points and the lowest winning total being 75 (United won the league by 7 points

United treble winning team of 98/99 won the league with 79 points.

Last years 82 points would have won the league in 7 years out of the 32 epl seasons.

It’s also worth mentioning that the highest points total for a team finishing 3rd is 83 (happened twice before) - so it’s not as if we were totally shit last year - and a slight increase in points was always likely to put us close to winning a title.

I'm annoyed because this was a relatively easy game and we've been consistently playing like shit until we are forced not to.

It wasn't a relatively easy game though. It was one of the games you could see us dropping points.
Fulham are the 5th best team in the league if you look at the last 10 games form table.

Guess who is top of that table as well? Yeah, you guessed it. The team that everyone says has been playing shit and not picking up any results for the last few months. Us.

Im not looking at it statistically. I'm looking at how the game went, how we played and how Fulham played. They didn't play well. We gifted them goals. We still most likely would have got a draw given the chances we made.

The game only wasn't easy because we made it really difficult.

I'm more annoyed that when we lose it often feels more down to complacency. I know there's been some tired legs and minds, but often we just look a bit taken back we're in a game of football and don't toughen up enough to counter it. There's just not enough leadership around the park, especially in the middle. I'd really like one of our midfield to step up in this regard. VVD is Mr Calm, but whinges every time he's called into action when we're flying, so you can hardly listen to him when things aren't going well. Henderson and Milner used to keep people switched on and running. That's what I feel this team lacks. Getting on Endo earlier in games wouldn't hurt either.

These things will matter when the PL gets more competitive at the top and easily be the difference between third and first over a season.

We would’ve won that had we not been complete spastics at the back. That’s the most annoying thing.

Fulham are a really good side. Had we been on it then it would’ve been a routine win.
