The race

Arsenal won't win all their games either. They have no attack. Against the worst side in the league they had to rely on Merino scoring two from the bench and getting the first in the 81st minute. They'll struggle when they play some teams that can actually defend. Just wait and see.
Yes but defence can win you games too.
I can see them producing a lot of 1-0 wins.

Don’t think I can stomach a 3 points or less lead when they come to Anfield. That will make the game brutal to watch.

That's looking a very likely scenario now.

Our form isn't close to title winning and hasn't been for a while now. We're basically reliant on their injuries gifting us a few extra points.

Let's see. There's still enough experience and quality to get things moving again. Arsenal's terrible attack has yet to be tested against anything other than pure relegation fodder. It took them 80 minutes, and lumping a failed DM/CM to go striker, to score some goals. That's desperation stuff.

As Peter says, we're far more reliant on them than we would like, or should be, but we shouldn't over-estimate the current side Arteta has to pick from. If they were full strength then I'd be losing sleep, but their current first eleven is just as pish as we are. I think they'll get between 3-4 points against West Ham and Forrest. If we can match them against City and Newcastle then things look rosier. We've got players that are vastly more experienced at winning things than they are and it's time they stepped up, both on and off the pitch, to ensure this doesn't, uh, slip. It's squeaky bum time, no doubt, but it's not all doom and gloom either.

Our key players are VVD, Gravy and Mo.

Both Gravy and Mo’s form have not been good recently. So, it’s not that surprising our results have dropped off too.

Slot needs to do something to help them out

It really frustrates me when we overanalyze our opponents' fixture list and hype up their matches, making their games seem tougher than they actually are.

Their upcoming fixtures:

West Ham United (Home) - shite, easy win

Nottingham Forest (Away) - Forest aren't reliable, but its probably a game they can get a point.

Manchester United (Away) - when was the last time Man U won at Old toilet?

Chelsea (Home) - shite form, shite defence.

Fulham (Home) - seriously, Fulham isn't getting anything from the Emirates.

The thing people seem to disregard is that Arsenal, just like us, don't concede many goals. The difference is, their defence stayed solid while ours has fallen apart.
They'll play Merino up front as a false 9 and one goal will be enough for them to win.
Saka will be back in March.

Agree completely

We'd look at that fixture list and think it should be an easy 15 points, yet apparently for arsenal it's tricky?

We're lucky we've got a buffer tbh, because right now I can't see us winning any of our next 3

They'll win the league. That's been the case for a while. Our form has been mediocre for a fair while, it's just theirs has too.

We are reliant on them falling off again and letting us off the hook.

The thing that gets me is that their team is much better positioned to win it again if they win it this year. If we win it, there are many many unresolved questions.
Disagree on the last point. If we win it I think we could win three in a row.

Fingers crossed. It’s also getting to the number of games where reeling off a heap of wins in a row isn’t an outrageous achievement.

Eh?
MO keeps scoring and assisting.

Gravy is having a mini blip in fairness.

It’s great that Mo scored last night. It makes up for him not tracking his player for Villa’s second goal.

But I don’t want Mo to be running back after a full back, I want him to be playing well so that the full back doesn’t dare leave him alone and overload our right hand side. Mo hasn’t been doing that lately

He assisted the second goal too yesterday and out scored every season bar his first with 12 games to go.

He’s having his best ever season and is the main danger man.

I don’t think any team is leaving him alone.

In the first half, they were putting 2 to 3 players on him whenever he got the ball, which left their other side lots of spaces. And for a moment or two we exploited that part pretty effectively, with Jota taking up Gakpo's position on the left. Unfortunately for him, he only put on a shooting boot and left the other one in Row Z.

There is no point.
There's two different ways to analyze data - one group is currently only sees goals and assists as definition of 'playing well', while the other values that but is also taking all the other aspects of the play and how the team is set up to accommodate the play. There's no agreement to be had here.

Ultimately if we can beat Arsenal at home which we should be doing if we want to be crowned champions then we only need 8 wins and a draw from the remaining 11 games and that’s if Arsenal spin off 12 wins outside of defeat to us.

We are still firm favourites, for now.

Yup, and one of them is completely retarded.

I'd rather not use that language, but there's no way to really prove either side is right in this discussion.

Would Liverpool be a better team if the team was set up differently etc etc - dunno, opinions with no fact to back up the other side.
Is this the best we could be based on how Slot has set up the team etc etc - dunno, but based on how the team is doing this year vs last year, seems to be it.

Now whether Salah has lost a step, or can beat a man consistently, that we can tell based on data - but those arguments are even more pointless the more I think about it.

Can see us getting a point against city. And we should beat Newcastle at home.

Certainly wouldn’t say we are firm favourites, but it’s hardly over either. The rest in March will be massive for us.

I don't think Salah has changed much from the player he was 5 or 6 years ago. He was never never good at beating his man. He never dominated games. It was always about moments. As far as I'm concerned he's playing no worse now than he has since his first season.

That's why I laugh when after pretty much every game pundits say stuff like "even when he's not at his best..." - how many times does it need to happen before they realise it's the rule not the exception?

But his numbers (and the actual quality of the goals and assists, mind you) are better than ever and that's what matters.

I agree with this to some extent, but not when we're struggling in a game. He's never been that good at holding the ball up, but he used to be so fast that players would either stand off him or get spun, and in that respect for his pace, he would emerge with the ball more often, which is good if your midfield isn't passing well, and your defense needs a break.

We've desperately needed that relief recently, and I think he's been worse than earlier this season.

chelsea and forest are by no means easy. At all. Even Utd away.

This narrowing of the gap was always going to happen due to the way the fixtures lined up. I doubt they win all those five.

I think there’s a pretty easy way to prove one side is right to be fair 🤣🤣.

We are top of the table and a very smart tactical manager has set us up to maximise Salah who is on track to break every record.

This could be your most most sensible post.

6 home games including Arsenal. We also have Leicester away who are dog shit and Chelsea who are also playing dog shit.

If we get a win on Sunday that puts us even bigger favourites.
