Whoever said Copenhagen was good, these CDG posts just reminded me how shit it is as a departure place. Yeah, arrivals is great and the transfer to the metro is seamless - but when you're leaving they herd you behind passport control where there's no bar or anything and the queues are crap. Maybe it's just a non Schengen thing but it was rubbish.

I don't think it was a Schengen thing .. when I was there they had a separate queue for french passport holders, but the rest of us were stuck in together. And I just don't get it - I can sort of understand lots of attention on passports for arrivals (which was relatively quick for me, actually), but why do they need such a slow & fastidious process for people leaving the country? We all get checked at the destination anyway (even if, in Ireland, that check is just waving your passport in the air, to show its the right colour, and commenting on the weather to the security guy).

I was waiting for a lift and couldn't get a fucking beer on arrival so I had to drink liquor from the duty free

Business class just go through a side door, left at the top of the escalators. Rare for any queuing.

I thought that facial recognition would speed up the whole passport thing but if anything it seems to have made it worse

Not so. If you are in first / business class you get priority there too ... as the plane crashes head-first into a mountain.
