Sergi Canos started for Brentford in Head Coach Dean Smith's first game in charge. High winds made conditions difficult but as the Bees settled into the game Canos became more effective. He hit the bar midway through the first half (arguably he should have scored). He was forced off with an injury just after the hour mark but had contributed well to a fluent Brentford display. A couple of years ago I watched Teixeira on loan at Brentford and he looked a boy amongst men. Canos looks far more powerful and confident at a younger stage in his development.

Cheers for all your updates mate. Much appreciated, and I look forward to see how Canos is doing every week based on your scouting reports.

What do you see as his strong points? Do you think he can make it?

Thanks! One of his strong points is that he is strong. He looks the part in the Championship where there a lot of powerful players so I think stepping up into the Premiership wouldn't be a problem. He's lively and enthusiastic, can beat a man but doesn't try to do too much with the ball, finds space well. Brentford haven't been as fluent this season as they were last but today they were very good (or maybe MK Dons were poor) but Canos' passing and movement were very good. When he came off it was noticeable how his team mates congratulated him and people like Alan Judge have said what a good player he is in training. I haven't seen much of Ojo but he looks like someone with pace and power. Canos just seems a better footballer. As to whether he'll make it with us you suspect it's about getting a chance and taking it. There's a lot of players in his position.

Andre Wisdom explains Jurgen Klopp conversation

Liverpool owned Andre Wisdom reckons he has a chance of making it with us, as he told the Echo.
The defender, who plays right-back or centre-back, is currently on loan with Norwich, where he’s spending the Premier League season.

He spent last term on loan at West Brom, so it’s easy to forget that he’s a Liverpool player at all, but the England Under-21 international reckons he can still make it at Anfield.

“My future is definitely back at Liverpool because that is my dream and that is what I want to achieve,” he began.
“I’ve had a quick catch-up with him (Klopp) to see where I am and how I am progressing. He just said keep going, gain as much experience as you can, keep working hard and above all enjoy your football. I am 22, which in football terms, is not that young nowadays.
“My situation doesn’t really change. I came to Norwich at the start of the season to gain more experience and play more games so the objective stays the same. Obviously I am in contact with the new manager and the staff at Liverpool but my plans here stay the same.”

Villa with a draw /1-1/ away vs. Southampton. Finally, Ilori was on the bench, a step forward for our young defender.

Andre Wisdom played 90 minutes at right back for Norwich. The Canaries lost 0-2 away at Watford, but Andre played well, individual mistakes/Tettey with a childish mistake for their opener/ cost the away side.

Sheyi Ojo was on the bench for Wolves. They won away from home /2-1/ vs. Rotheram

Sergi Canos started and played on the right wing 67 minutes for Brentford. Brentford won /2-0/ and they are only one point behind 6th placed Cardiff.

Swindon have no matches, lower league teams play in the FA Cup this weekend, but Swindon are out of the Cup.

Lloyd Jones still injured after two operations on his knee in October.

Kent and Coventry won't play league games this weekend

Harry Wilson recalled to the club, maybe he will have a new club, but we will see. Crew did not work well for the young Welshman.

Aberdeen won /3-1/ their home match vs.Ross County. 90 minutes for Danny Ward, while Ryan McLaughlin wasn't in the match day squad.

Balotelli trained this week for a firts time after the injury. I don't think that he will play today for Milan. They visit minnows Carpi

Yesil stayed on the bench for Luzern. Marcus Babbel's team won /3-1/ at home against Young Boys.

Markovic recovered from an injury, but lost his place in the starting 11. Fenerbahce visit Gaziantep today.

Luis Alberto is still recovering from an injury. Deportivo with a point /1-1/ at home vs. Sevilla.

Awoniyi is with Nigeria U-23 in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, played Nigeria's first two games, was benched for the third (came on as a sub), hasn't scored so far. Nigeria are into the Semi's

Canos played his second game in a row and started in an away game for the first time and not just any away game but the big West London derby against Fulham at Craven Cottage. he was his usual lively self, playing a good part in some flowing moves and putting himself about, to the extent of getting (rather harshly) booked. He was subbed off after 65 minutes. With the Bees playing away again on Tuesday it will be interesting to see if he can cope with 2 games in a few days or if Dean Smith gives him a rest.

Villa with a loss /0-2/ at home vs. Arsenal. Finally, Ilori missing again. Maybe it's time for the club to try every available option and recall the young Portuguese defender.

Andre Wisdom played poorly for 45 minutes as right back for Norwich before being substituted. The Canaries won a point at home vs. Everton.
Sheyi Ojo wasn't the bench for Wolves. They won away from home /2-1/ vs. Rotheram

Sergi Canos with a cosnecutive start for Brentford, the Spaniard played on the right wing 66 minutes and was booked. Brentford with a precious point away against Fulham.

Swindon with 3 consecutive wins. Vigoroux played the whole game for them. No signs of Stewart and Williams
According to this source they are closing to return to full training.
http://totalswindonsport.com/2015/11/stewart-and-williams-could-return-to-full-training-in-december/

Lloyd Jones still injured after two operations on his knee in October.

Kent started on the bench for Coventry against Sheffiled United. Ryan came in as 70th minute substitute, but shortly after that united scored the winner

Aberdeen won /1-0/ their home match vs.Herats. Danny Ward with 90 minutes and a clean sheet, while Ryan McLaughlin wasn't in the match day squad.

Balotelli is training, but Milan decided to give him extra week for preparation. Milan with a very disappointing home draw /1-1/ vs. outsiders and last placed Hellas Verona.

Luzern won /4-3/ their Cup match vs. Aarau. Yesil played in the last 3 minutes

Markovic came in the 20th minute for Fenerbahce. His team won 1-0 at home.

Awoniyi is playing for Nigeria at the moment/thanks, Mystryman01 🙂/. FSV Frankfurt lost /3-1/ vs. league leaders RB Leipzig away from home.

Luis Alberto is back from an injury. He came in the 58th minute and helped Deportivo win a point /2-2/ away against Barcelona.

Dean Smith duly gave Canos a rest; he didn't even make the bench for Brentford at Cardiff. With Jota, one of last season's star turns (and who plays in Canos' position)now fit enough to make the bench, game time might be limited for our loanee. He seems to me to have benefitted from playing so we might need to consider a change of club in January.

[article]Brentford will look to extend the loans of Sergi Canos and John Swift from Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.

The Spaniard opened the scoring in the 4-2 win over Huddersfield, while Swift impressed since joining the club in October.

And Dean Smith would like to see the pair remain with the club for the rest of the season.

He said: “I want him to stay for the rest of the season. I think he's enjoying it here. He'd love to stay so it's about us talking to Liverpool and get things done.

“I'm good friends with Alex Inglethorpe who is the academy director at Liverpool. I'll be in touch with him.”

Canos' enthusiasm has caught the eye and the 18-year-old was clearly out to prove a point after being rested against Cardiff in midweek.

He added: “He's been really bright. I didn't play him at Cardiff as I didn't think the pitch would be good for him.

“He looked fresh today. He's an 18-year-old kid and he doesn't want to be rested but he gave me a great response with his goal and performance.

“He doesn't look like a typical Spanish wide player. He likes the physical side of the game. He's a ball carrier but he's got tricks as well. He's enjoying it here.”[/article]

[article]Sergi Canos will become a player Liverpool fans will adore in the coming years, as long as his development is managed properly.

The 18-year-old Spaniard has been one of the stars of the season for Brentford with his play thrilling supporters and leaving defenders struggling.

In my mind, Canos will become a Premier League player with Liverpool in time but he is not the finished product yet.

Below, we take a look at his characteristics and why the forward will be a Premier League player.

Canos' desire to do his best for Brentford is excellent and he has been rewarded for his efforts with two goals.

In the past players have gone on loan to the Bees and not performed to their capabilities. Whether that is because they believe they're better than they are or the club's setup at those times were alien to some of the pampered Premier League academy youngsters is up for debate.

Canos, on the other hand, has produced a run of good displays and, even if he has a quiet game, always displays the right attitude.

The 18-year-old loves to play football. That much is clear from the minute you start watching him and enhanced when speaking to him.

Indeed, Canos was unhappy that Dean Smith rested him, even though the Brentford head coach was doing so for the right reasons.

Rather than sulk on the training pitch, which other players would do, the 18-year-old tried to ensure the Bees boss didn't consider that option again by producing an excellent performance against Huddersfield.

That enthusiasm is displayed in the defensive side of the game and Canos has no qualms in going in for a tackle and getting involved. He seems to enjoy that just as much as when the ball is at his feet.

This attribute will go down well with Jurgen Klopp who likes his teams to play a high-octane style and press their opponents all over the pitch.

At times, he has been over-exuberant and has trodden a fine line with the referee on occasions but he will learn to keep his cool in certain situations.

When Canos has the ball, he is a box of tricks and is always looking to attack when he has the ball.

He has no fear in taking on his man and if he doesn't succeed at first, he'll try again until he does.

He has a decent cross on him and, on debut, set up Lasse Vibe for his equaliser against Preston.

Canos can also finish as shown against Huddersfield where he controlled the ball with his right foot before spinning past his man to fire home.

His best position is a right sided forward with the freedom to cut into the middle when need be. He's happy coping against some of the powerful defenders in the Championship.

There is no doubt that Canos can go as far as he wants in the game, as long as he maintains his excellent attitude.[/article]

Sergi Canos joined Brentford from Liverpool on an initial deal until December 31
Liverpool youngster Sergi Canos has extended his loan at Brentford until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old attacking-midfielder joined on an initial deal in August until December 31, and has scored twice in 16 appearances.
The clubs, who have an excellent relationship regarding youth loans, have now agreed a second deal that will go through when the transfer window opens on January 2 and run until May 2016.

Brentford head coach Dean Smith said: "I have been really pleased with Sergi and he has been progressing really well.
"Even though he is only 18-years-old, he has quite an old head on young shoulders. He wants to learn and he wants to get better. He is enjoying himself here and he gives us something that we haven't really got in terms of his direct running and enthusiasm.

Canos scored his first Brentford goal against Nottingham Forest in November

"It is encouraging to have a player like Sergi here for the rest of the season."
Canos signed for Liverpool in 2013, having come through Barcelona academy, and signed professional youth terms at 17 last year.
He appeared in every match of Liverpool's 2014-15 UEFA Youth League campaign, scoring once, and has represented Spain at U15, U16 and U17 level.

Canos just scored a cracking goal for Brentford

This loan spell is doing him wonders ... playing regularly - scoring goals - gaffa loves him ... don't know about the crowd but it seems they'll like him too ... Maybe he'll play a part next year.

Canos just scored a cracking goal for Brentford

[article]Sergi Canos said his wonder goal against Reading this afternoon felt like it wasn't him as he celebrated his loan extension until the end of the season by wrapping up the three points at The Madejski Stadium.

With the scores level at 1-1 the 18-year-old beat Stephen Quinn with his first-touch, rounded Michael Hector with his second and then fired home from 18 yards with his third touch to move Brentford within a point of the Play-Offs.

It was a fantastic goal and one which Sergi said, speaking to Bees Player after the match, he still can’t believe.

“I can’t believe the goal,” said Sergi. “It wasn’t me. I am so happy with the goal because it was to celebrate my loan extension. It was a big three points and the team needed the three points. Dean Smith is always talking about what is next. I want to enjoy the present but everything is about what is coming next.”

It has been a great couple of days for the Spanish youngster as he extended his stay from Liverpool for the rest of the season yesterday before sealing the three points this afternoon.

The winger has scored three goals in 17 appearances at Griffin Park since joining in September and said it has been a great experience for him in West London.

“It has been a great 24 hours because all I wanted to do was stay at Brentford,” said Sergi. “From day one at Brentford I have wanted to stay here until the end of the season because I am learning a lot here. This is an amazing club and it is great to be playing here learning from Jake Bidwell, Maxime Colin and Jota and for me that is everything.”

Monday’s win moves The Bees within a point of the top six and Sergi said there is a real belief that Brentford can make the end of season Play-Offs this campaign.

“I am looking forward to the Play-Offs,” said Sergi. “I have seen clips from last year and I want to make that happen. We think we can make the Play-Offs and we are aiming for the Premier League.”[/article]

[article]Smith explained: "Today I brought Sergi on as I thought he may cause Stephen Quinn a few problems.

“I have known Stephen a long time, from at Sheffield United and he is normally a left midfielder and I felt Sergi with his direct running could give him a few problems and he certainly did that with his goal.”

Canos has a restaurant in Liverpool and Smith would be heading straight for dinner if the food served there was as good as his strike.

"If the food is anything like his goal it will be a treat. It was a great finish and a great response to being left out,” Smith said.

"He has not taken us up to the restaurant yet but it is not that far from Birmingham where we play on Saturday, so I may be up there for dinner at the weekend.

He added: "He did really well on Boxing Day but as he is an 18-year-old I feel it is my responsibility to manage him as well as I can."[/article]

[article]Liverpool's most successful goalkeeper of the season is playing 350 miles north of Anfield.

On Wednesday night, while the unconvincing Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan are in Jurgen Klopp's squad to face Sunderland, 22-year-old Danny Ward will play between the sticks as Aberdeen bid to leapfrog Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Ward has been an ever-present at Pittodrie this season during a successful loan spell, which contrasts markedly to the struggles Liverpool have had with their number ones.

Aberdeen are mounting an unlikely title challenge north of the border akin to Leicester City and sit a point behind the massive pre-season favourites Celtic. The Dons are at home to Partick on Wednesday while Celtic play at Dundee.

The 6ft 3in goalkeeper also looks certain to be at Euro 2016 next summer as part of Chris Coleman's Welsh squad.

Longer-term, his plan is to return to Anfield next season and fight to become the club's first-choice goalkeeper, and avoid the need for Klopp to spend millions in the transfer market.

'Scotland has been very enjoyable. Getting regular games has been massive,' says Ward. 'I knew about Aberdeen's history from the Alex Ferguson era and one of my friends, Ash Taylor, played there and said it was a great club, so it was an easy decision to go.

'We've been doing well this season. I might not be called on for 80 minutes and then have an important save to make. It is similar to being a big club in England, like Liverpool. It can be only good for the future.

'It is definitely an ambition of mine to be Liverpool's first-choice. I have a self-belief where I think I can play at the highest level. Ideally that's at Liverpool, that would be fantastic.

'They gave me a new long-term contract before I came up. I took it to mean they think I have got a chance. Long term, I would love to be their No 1.

'For now it's about me taking the right steps and impressing for Aberdeen game-by-game.'

Liverpool signed Ward as a teenager from Wrexham and initially sent him out on loan to Morecambe before he took the big step up to Aberdeen.

The club have been keeping a close eye on his progress in Scotland and he also returned to Melwood for a couple of training sessions under Klopp in November on his way back from international duty for Wales against Holland.

'I am in regular contact with the Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achteberg, we will speak a couple of times a week. The scouting department, who look after loan players at Liverpool, also have a good connection with the staff with Aberdeen,' he explains.

'I met the new manager (Klopp) after the last international break for an introduction and to see what he did in training, get a feeling for his way of working. It was brilliant to get my face in there. I was there for two days, two sessions, then back up at Aberdeen for that weekend.

'I don't want to be left out of the picture at Liverpool. I don't want to be out of sight, out of mind. So after the Holland friendly, I decided to call in.

'To be at Liverpool you have to be a good player. The manager seems to have been a breath of fresh air. When I went down, you sensed he had brought a new lease of life, you can also see that with how the lads have been playing.

'It is going to take time for his ideas to get across but I enjoyed the sessions I spent with him and the feeling I got is that the players are enjoying working with him.'

Liverpool can recall Ward from his season-long loan in January but it seems to suit all sides for the him to finish what he has started at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen haven't been Scottish champions since Alec Ferguson, as he was known then, led them to his third gong in 1985.

'We are in a good position, playing good football. On a personal level I feel I am performing consistently,' adds Ward.

'It is what I have been craving for, playing on a big stage with the pressure on you. The aim is to win the league. I think as a squad, we know we are good enough to push Celtic all the way.

'I am the only Welshman, but there are other players like Shay Logan, Ash, Adam Rooney and Niall McGinn who have played in England. That has helped me to settle in well.'

If Aberdeen do complete one of the most remarkable title wins in Scottish league history, Ward's performance against Motherwell in October will take on legendary status, making four stunning saves in the final few minutes to earn The Dons a crucial point in a 1-1 draw.

Overall, Ward has kept 11 clean sheets this season and Aberdeen boast the second-best defensive record in the league.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has been quick to recognise his talents too. Ward was in every squad during Wales' successful European Championship qualifying campaign and was on the bench for the game in Bosnia which saw them book their first finals since 1958. France now awaits.

'It was surreal really. When I was growing up watching Welsh football, to see us create history was amazing. And you do feel part of it, even being on the bench, you have helped everyone prepare and helped whatever eleven the manager puts out on the pitch.

'I am still young for a goalkeeper. If you'd told me as a 17-year-old at Wrexham that I'd soon be training with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale, I would never have thought it. Hopefully it is just the start of the things to come.'[/article]

My Aberdeen-supporting mate would differ slightly on the question of consistency - according to him the lad had a wobbly spell a while back. They're still pretty pleased with him overall though.

To get an up-close and emotionally invested perspective of Luis Alberto’s season, we chatted with Depor fan and football writer Chris Moar (@MoarFootball) who has contributed to the likes of BeIN Sports and MailOnline.

What was the perception around Luis Alberto when the signing was announced, and how has that changed so far?

I speak for many fans when I say that we were a bit disenchanted with the signing of Luis Alberto. He was underwhelming at Malaga (on loan last season) and has not set the world alight since joining Liverpool.
I would say that we are all munching on humble pie right now because Luis Alberto is the breath of fresh air that this club has needed in the final third.
He is daring, adventurous and always willing to combine with teammates in an attempt to score or create chances. He’s always relentlessly attacking and carrying the side forward, forging a strong partnership with our top goal scorer, Lucas Perez, who has also been linked to Liverpool in recent weeks.

Luis Alberto was one of those who started the season with improved end product for Depor; now he’s back from injury, how high are your hopes that he’ll continue that in the second half of the campaign?

If his first two games back from injury are anything to go by, he will continue to shine at an extremely high level. He was impeccable against Llagostera (in the Copa del Rey) and turned in a very strong performance at home to Eibar a few days later. He’s still struggling for fitness which is understandable, but I think many are now expecting him to continue performing at the level which left us all dazzled.

In which position and role do you feel the team has seen the best of him?

Before talking about which role or position he has performed in best, it is worth mentioning that Luis Alberto has played as a sole striker, left winger, right winger and attacking midfielder without ever looking out of his depth.
It is a testament to his quality that he can retain a strong performance level regardless of where he plays, but I think he is most effective on the left. It allows him to cut inside and lash those thunderbolt strikes he possesses straight at goal.
Furthermore, he is given the freedom to drift into the centre and link up with Lucas—a combination which almost always ends in a goalscoring opportunity for either player.

What have been the biggest strengths of his game this season, and the most glaring weaknesses?

I’d say his biggest strengths have stemmed from his technical ability. We’ve been bereft of consistent creators in recent years and Luis Alberto brings that in abundance. His passing has been accurate, his shooting menacing and he is always willing to interchange with teammates in order to give us a better chance to perform in the final third.
In Spain, he has often been regarded as a greedy player but his time at Dépor has quashed that notion. Whenever you watch him play, it is clear that the manager has decided that he should be the man pulling the strings in the final third and making things happen.
In terms of weaknesses, I would just raise his fitness. He has already picked up two injuries since joining and often fails to complete two games in a row. I don’t think this is a chronic, recurring issue though. He’s just going through a rough patch in terms of a stop-start career. With more minutes and (hopefully) less injuries, this should cease to be an issue.

Given the opportunity, would the fans in general be happy to see him join on a permanent basis?

Yes. 100% yes. He has made us perform better in attack, gets the best out of our talismanic centre-forward and has contributed to lifting spirits at the club. We don’t have the sufficient money to oversee a permanent transfer unless both he and Liverpool came to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
Having said that, the new TV deal in Spain could help us out in that regard. It’s fair to say he is loving it here and has forged great friendships already. If the opportunity presented itself, I do think he would gladly move permanently to A Coruña.

This Season’s Aims

First and foremost, not falling down the table and getting involved in a relegation battle remains Depor’s primary aim, but already on 26 points, it doesn’t look as though they’ll have to worry about that unless an Eibar-esque collapse ensues. Although they’re in the top six at present, with Sevilla and Valencia still looking to find form over the second half of the season the assumption has to be that Depor’s smaller squad will drop at least a place or two over the long haul.

They’re a fine side, but a lack of numbers to call upon without the quality dropping in the starting XI is certainly an issue—not dissimilar to that faced by Athletic Club, for example, who are currently two points behind Deportivo.
The best chance they have of remaining in the conversation for a top half, top eight or even top-six finish is simply to continue doing as they have been: attack sides at will, at pace and with conviction.
For that, Luis Alberto will continue to be a pivotal part of the manager’s plans; he brings the guile that others such as Faycal Fajr or even the industrious Lucas Perez cannot match, while also showing far more consistency than the similarly talented Fede Cartabia.
With confidence and fitness on his side, Luis Alberto should be looking at clocking up over 1,400 minutes of La Liga action for Deportivo this season—comparable with the league game time for Liverpool of Joe Allen or Lucas Leiva last term, for reference.

Future

Luis Alberto might have suggested staying at Deportivo would be good for him next season as he’s enjoying the football while there, but Moar’s point is a valid one: Luis Alberto cost Liverpool around €8 million and they’ll look to recoup at least half of that, if not the full amount, should they sell him on next summer.
130105-032-Liverpool_Oldham-993x840.jpg

Deportivo’s total outlay on signings over the last three years has been somewhere around €2 million. It’s also unlikely he’ll return to L4 to play a significant role for the Reds in fairness, with heavy competition for places in those same spots and every chance that Klopp will want to add established attacking firepower in the close season.
The best outcome for parent club and player alike is that a bigger, more established side in La Liga is impressed by Luis Alberto’s performances for Deportivo, and themselves make a permanent move for his services.
He’s clearly a talented attacking midfielder who has needed the right environment to flourish; next year, wherever his options are, the playmaker needs to ensure he moves somewhere where the manager will trust him in the same way Victor Sanchez has, to continue his career progression and make good on the potential which was visible when the Reds first made a move for him back in 2013.

Ojo looks like he has been recalled.

To summorise some of the Wolves fans thoughts on him from their forums:
  1. He dives a lot
  2. He wasn't very good for them
  3. He wont be good enough for Liverpool... Although a few acknowledge his age and inexperience being a factor in his poor performances.
  4. A few questioned his attitude

Liverpool to recall goalkeeper Danny Ward from Aberdeen early

_59918440_jonners1.jpg
By Jonathan SutherlandBBC Scotland
Liverpool are to end goalkeeper Danny Ward's loan spell with Aberdeen early.
Ward had become a fans favourite at Pittodrie after a string of impressive performances which has helped them to second in the Scottish Premiership.
The 22-year-old's final appearance for Aberdeen was in a 1-0 loss to Hearts in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.
He was due to be at Pittodrie until the summer and has been an ever present in the first team, keeping 11 clean sheets in 29 appearances.
However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has decided to take him back to Anfield.
Capped at youth level for Wales, Ward has been an unused substitute for the senior side in recent months and is hopeful of being in the squad for Euro 2016.

Sergi Canos played the full 90 minutes for Brentford but couldn't prevent an FA Cup upset as the Bees were beaten at home by League 1 opponents. The Bees fielded a weakened team and struggled in the first half. Canos was starved of possession. The arrival of Alan Judge at half-time saw an improved display and Canos was lively, giving highly rated Rico Henry some difficult moments. He couldn't force an equaliser and Walsall deservedly went through. With Jota injured again, Canos should be a regular starter for the foreseeable future.
