The Players on loan thread - Season 15/16

Sergi Canos said it is great to have that winning mentality back after The Bees picked up back-to-back victories in the Sky Bet Championship. Saturday’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest was followed up with a 3-1 success against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night. The on-loan Liverpool winger netted in the win at The City Ground on Saturday, his fifth of the season in 32 appearances and said he was pleased to get back on the scoresheet.
Speaking to Bees Player ahead of Saturday’s match with Ipswich Town Sergi said it has taken him a while to get used to the Championship but now he feels like a Championship player.
“I am happy to be back scoring but the most important thing is that the team is winning and that we have the winning mentality again,” said Sergi. “I am a winger but in my mind I am a striker so I want to score every game. Now that I feel like I am a Championship player. It took a while to get used to the league. There were good moments and bad moments. This year I have learned to play football and to play true football and that is great.”
Sergi has become a fans favourite this season with his energetic displays and attitude and he said the backing from the stands has been great for a young player like him. After four consecutive defeats Sergi said it was pleasing to get two wins to repay those fans for their support.
“The fans deserved the wins,” said Sergi. “They travel a lot to support us everywhere. The most important thing for the supporters is to win games, and to win games at home. I feel that the fans like me and that is amazing. When the fans sing my name, and my family are in the crowd and can hear that, it is a great feeling. When fans support you it is much better for you. It is great and it helps you to do things better.”
The on-loan Liverpool winger has been predominantly used from the bench in recent weeks with Sam Saunders filling the starting berth. While Sergi is keen to play as much as he can he is ready to help the team however he can, even it is off the bench. The 19-year-old said he is always watching Sam and seeing what he can learn from the experienced winger.
“I always want to play but I know that the team is playing really well now,” said Sergi. “If I am on the bench then I will be ready to go or if the Head Coach wants me to start, I will start, no problem. I try to look at Sam Saunders every time he plays and see every movement he makes. I spoke to Richard O’Kelly today about his movements and how he looks when he defends. It is great for me because he has played for Brentford for eight years and he is an example for me.”

Canos started for Brentford in their home match against Bristol City. Starting on the left he mixed up his game, sometimes coming inside and other times combining well with scouse left-back, Jake Bidwell. He was one of the Bees best attacking threats in the first half. The second half was less effective as the Bees lost their way and he was subbed off on 83 minutes with his side still searching for an equaliser. Perhaps he needs to work on his fitness? A Klopp pre-season might do the trick.

Sergi Canos started on the bench for Brentford's match at home to Cardiff last night. That was probably the best place to be for a match that was 80 minutes of tedium followed by 10 minutes of mayhem. The best part of the match was the very comely lady assistant running the line on my side of the pitch. Canos eventually got on just after the hour and immediately added some pace and drive to Brentford's attack but it was his fellow sub, Scott Hogan, who scored twice for the Bees in quick succession. Cardiff quickly pulled one back and the last 6 or 7 minutes seemed to be like one sustained scramble in the Brentford box. Canos showed his inexperience by committing a needless foul about 35 yards out and inviting more pressure. Fortunately, Brentford survived to make it 13 points from the last 15.

Sergi Canos started Brentford's final home game against Fulham. This is the big one for all Bees fans and Canos certainly seemed to have been wound up beforehand. A great dribble, a crunching tackle and a quick interception and pass all in the first 5 minutes. he provided the assist for the first goal and continued to trouble the Fulham defence throughout. At half time he was moved to play up front and showed some good touches, with a bit of strength and some neat passes. He's had a good season and has improved immensely. The Brentford fans would love to see him back at Griffin Park next season. I suppose a lot will depend on pre-season. At the moment he would be behind Ibe and Ojo in the pecking order but he offers something a little different, perhaps more measured, to them. I've certainly enjoyed watching him this season.

luis alberto played 90 minutes in deportivos 2-0 home loss to getafe, deportivo were reduced to 10 men on the 63 minute mark.

sergi canos played the full 90 for the first time in brentfords 3-0 home win to fulham.

andre wisdom has returned to liverpool due to an injury that ruled him out for rest of season against sunderland, he was withdrawn just before HT.

allan was unused sub for sint truiden, whilst awoyini played the full 90 in frankfurts loss to FC Kaiserslaugten.

classic mario had a penalty saved in milans 3-3 draw to frosinone, then phoned the cheif director to apologize 😀

have high hopes for canos and feel alberto has done enough last 2 seasons to warrant a first team place for the 16/17 season.

Canos got a goal and an assist as he ended his loan spell by helping Brentford to a 5-1 win at Huddersfield.

At the end of season awards yesterday, Canos picked up the goal of the Season prize for his goal at Reading but also the Community player of the year for his work with the Brentford Community Trust.

Canos gets his award last night from the very photogenic Natalie Sawyer and the rather less photogenic Bees skipper (and ex-Blue), Jake Bidwell.
