The not so Official January Transfer Rumour Thread

Rodgers apparantly is The_Tongue. Everyone thought he was The_Hug, but no.

The_Mouth spilled the beans. Or ate them. Don't know which one.

Drexler rumour could be legit.

The_khl.

The term you used was "sown up", that is incorrect as the popular term is "to sew up" derived from the act of sewing (i.e. needle pulling thread); the past participle of the verb "to sew" is "sewn" so it should have been "sewn up". The word you used, "sown", is the past participle of the verb "to sow" which means to plant seads (as in "you reap what you sow") - unless you derived it from the noun "sow" meaning female pig, but then that would be worse as past participles are a derivation of a verb & not a noun.

I just thought if yer man could correct the misuse (or non use) of an apostrophe left, right & center then I could point out the incorrect use of the langauge in general

😉

Alas, it was all going so (sow, sew) well until the bit in bold.

A couple of people who've posted in this thread might be interested to know that there's a game out on iOS called The Grading Game where you have a time limit to read a passage of text and spot all the errors. It's great, like unpaid proofreading work.

Well from what I've seen Draxler is more of a winger and Holtby is more comfortable in the center.

Yeah Draxler is the more attacking minded of the two but I believe Draxler should be just as comfortable on the centre as on the wing. Just what Rodgers wants I guess.

How do you guys know that this @lfc_tongue, who only started twatting yesterday is the real "lfc_tongue" if indeed the real "lfc_tongue" was really real?

From "The Times" today:

"Liverpool have made a final offer to Inter Milan for Philippe Coutinho, but their bid has been restructured rather than raised as they refuse to deviate from their £8 million valuation of the Brazil midfielder. Southampton had a £10.2 million offer for Coutinho accepted this week, but Liverpool's hand has been strengthened by the player's determination to join them, a factor that they hope will sway the deal in their favour. Ian Ayre held another round of talks with Inter officials yesterday and the negotiations culminated with the Liverpool managing director submitting a revised offer that would include a majority of the fee being paid up front if accepted."

Tony Barrett is one of the journos who wrote the relevant column, so hopefully there's something in it.

Capped three times by Germany and has been a regular in the quite strong Schalke side for two years now. I haven't seen him enough to judge but Schalke fans seem to rate him very highly. Draxler has also played more as a winger for them hasn't he? Why do you think he wouldn't be ready to come into the team and be an improvement over what we currently have?

I would love us to sign him if only because of him being a young German international. Can't see it happening but I'm glad we are even trying.
I have not seen him very many times, but I don't think he's as talented as either Eriksen or Djuricic, who I mentioned in my post. Also don't think he's going to be a winger - don't think he has the pace or the explosiveness. He'd probably be an attacking mid long-term, and when we have Suso in that position, I'd rather just persevere with him. We have other priorities.

If we have the supposed 11 million we are willing to bid for Draxler, I'd much rather spunk it on Wanyama. Especially if we're signing Coutinho.

The problem is we have next to no chance to sign someone like Eriksen.

I agree about Wanyama, we badly need another DM.

I suppose that's true - You never really know. Would be a crazy coincidence though. I for one am pretty sure it is the real tongue.

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman has rejected an offer from Fiorentina for Marcos Alonso. He said: "We feel we have done a lot for Marcos and we value him a lot more than Fiorentina have offered,” he said. “As we speak right now, we have rejected that and we move on."

According to reports in Italy, Sunderland have seen a €5 million bid for Lazio's Mauro Zarate rejected. The former Birmingham and Inter Milan striker has fallen out of favour at Lazio, and recently spurned the opportunity to join Dynamo Kiev with several interested parties still keen to talk to the Argentine.

Liverpool flop Sebastian Coates is a £7million target for Brazilian club Gremio – but it gives Kop boss Brendan Rodgers a transfer headache, writes the Sunday People.
The wealthy Samba outfit want to sign Uruguayan centre-half Coates and take him away from his Anfield misery.
But while the Reds would happily sell disappointing Coates for such a big sum, they face a problem over the timing of the deal.
Gremio can sign Coates AFTER the European window shuts as their deadlines are different – and that is a problem for the Anfield club.
Rodgers would want to spend the money to find a replacement – with Swansea’s Ashley Williams a big target – but his bosses are anxious.
If Liverpool sign Coates’ replacement before selling him it puts them in a poor negotiating position.
So they will ask Gremio for a concrete bid in the next 72 hours.
The defender had been hoping a switch to Juventus would materialise after the Italian giants wanted to loan him for the rest of the season.
He said: “I’m going through a complicated moment here at Liverpool.
“I want to play for the Uruguayan national team and I must play for my team to achieve that.
“I do know the other defenders are playing really well and I must wait my chance. But, again, I want to play now.”

I like Coates and I'm disappointed that it hasn't worked out for him at Liverpool. Anyone remember what we paid for him?

I believe it was 6.5/7 mill. if we can get that back, then that wouldn't be too bad.
We should try and sign Dragovic from Basel, he is a good up coming CB and wouldn't be too expensive.

I don't think it's about us getting rid of him, I think it's got more to do with him wanting to leave.
To be honest, I don't blame him. He should have been played against teams like Stoke and West Ham. He should be our third option. So, best of luck to him.
