The not so Official January Transfer Rumour Thread

Le10 have reported that French club AC Ajaccio will decide at the end of the season if Liverpool goalkeeper target Guillermo Ochoa can leave at the end of the season. Their president Alain Orsoni spoke on the club’s official website where he has stated that there has been interest from foreign clubs and that they will study these bids when the current season is over.
Orsoni has said that the player will not leave in this transfer window as the team require him for the remainder of this season’s campaign. He revealed that he is not surprised with the interest from other clubs because Ochoa is a very good goalkeeper and that it is normal for there to be speculation regarding such players. Orsoni did however remind the teams that are keen to sign the Mexican that he is contracted to the French side until 2014.
"Ochoa seems to get interest some foreign clubs, what could be more normal? This is a great goalkeeper and a great guy on the human level. I cannot imagine a departure from our goalkeeper during the championship, we will study the bids and decide with him at the end of the season... I remind you that his contract runs until 2014!"
It's not quite opening the exit door and pushing his goalkeeper out of it but it's certainly loosening the locks and given that he'll only have a year left on his deal in the summer, the club would have to consider a sale this year to get the most value.
RMC had reported only a few days ago that Liverpool had put a 6m bid in for the goalkeeper but were hoping to sign him in this month’s transfer window. From the comments of Orsoni they will be hopeful in purchasing the player if they can match the asking price. It is unlikely in this window but they will be confident in the summer.

5-10M for Reina?!!!

Yes he's had a patchy season and a bit but fek me a little over a year ago he was considered in the top 3-4 keepers in the world!!

Those krout keepers would cost 10-20M, when you consider what Bayern paid for the German No.1. Butland would go for 5-10.

I would go all out for Courtois as I don't know enough about these up-and-coming German 'keepers and hope Rafa gives us a discount. Alternatively, Friedel would be a good pick up for a couple of years until we make up our minds long-term.

Chelsea would not sell us courtois, especially with cech starting to look shaky

Bekovic would be my choise if Reina needs to be replaced. Unfortunatelly I feel his price might be too high for us.

Oh I see it now. Had to reset Tapatalk cos it wasn't working. Forgot about the stupid sig that shows up by default.

Rodgers is in advanced negotiations with Inter over a deal to sign the Brazil international and Liverpool expect to seal their second January signing by the end of this week.

Liverpool's first bid was rejected last week but they are ready to offer a £6 million down payment with further instalments taking the transfer closer towards a final £8 million.

Talks between the two clubs resumed on Monday and barring any late hitches, Coutinho should join Daniel Sturridge as the latest arrival at Anfield this month.

Coutinho's versatility appeals to Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, as he can play in central midfield and as a second striker. The 20 year-old was signed from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama and given his first-team debut by former Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez and has established a reputation as one of Serie A's most prodigious young talents.

His age also fits the profile for Rodgers, who could still move for Blackpool and England under-21 international winger Thomas Ince before the transfer window closes next week.

Coutinho could even make his Liverpool debut against Oldham in the FA Cup fourth round at Boundary Park on Sunday.

From the Times (Barratt)
Jamie Carragher has admitted that his future rests in the hands of Brendan Rodgers and the Liverpool hierarchy after he entered the final six months of his contract.
“The manager has always kept me involved by having me on the bench or bringing me on in different situations,” Carragher said.
“But I want to start. I’m no different to any other player. I’m just pleased he gave me the nod on Saturday [against Norwich City] and I’m pleased it went well. “The manager has been great with me.
He has tried to keep me involved. It’s been a difficult season for me in terms of starting games. I’ve played a lot in Europe, the FA Cup and League Cup, but the Premier League is the most important thing for the club and the players. We all want to play in that, and I’m no different.”
In contrast to the situation at Chelsea, where Frank Lampard’s future has become a bone of contention, there is no acrimony between Carragher and his employers, just a shared acceptance that the former England international’s fate is likely to be determined by how much playing time he is given.
For that reason, Carragher is unwilling to seek a contract extension even though he recognises that unless he is awarded a new deal his 16-year Liverpool career will come to an end in May.
“It’s up to the manager and the club to make a decision like that,” he said. “It’s down to them. I’m pleased I got a game at the weekend and I’ll hope to get a few more now. The manager has kept me involved, but the Premier League is the most important thing.
“It was only my second start in the league this season which is disappointing from my point of view, but I said I wouldn’t complain and I’m just trying to get more starts and be involved between now and the end of the season.
“I’ll chat to the manager at the end of the season. I’m open-minded and I’m sure the club are. But the club getting results is the most important thing. It’s not about what I’m going to do, that’s something we can sort out one way or another.”

Jamie Carragher's game-time could determine whether the Anfield legend will end his career with Liverpool.
Fans have automatically assumed the faithful Reds servant will either sign a new contract or retire at the end of this season, when the 34-year-old’s current deal is up.
Yet the former England defender still has a blazing desire to play on, and still believes he is fit enough to continue doing so at a high level.
While Carragher refuses to complain about his lack of matches this season, Saturday’s appearance against Norwich was only his second Premier League game of the campaign, and he admits he is desperate to play more.
“The manager has been great with me. He has tried to keep me involved. But listen, I want to start. I’m no different to any other player,” the veteran explained.

"I won’t lie, it’s been a difficult season for me in terms of starting games.”

I can Carra on for years: Stalwart Jamie is "open-minded" abou his future
John Powell

Although Carragher has been used as back-up by Rodgers, the manager values his experience and incredible professionalism.
The Liverpool boss is keen to offer him a new contract, and believes he is capable of playing on for several more years.
But Rodgers also accepts it is hard for a character like Carra’s to accept a bit part role at the club he has served for so long.
“It’s not so much Jamie not feeling a part of it, because he feels very much a part of it,” Rodgers explained.
“But I think it’s difficult when you’re a senior player and you’ve been very much a number one player. With Steven Gerrard, Jamie has arguably been the best players for 10 years at Liverpool.
“If that slips in 18 months and you’re not playing as much, then it is going to give the player a question to answer.
“We’ll just take it week by week - he and I communicate a lot, we know each other’s thinking. What I know at this stage is he’s 35 on January 28, but for me he’s still super-fit, great condition and can still play on.
“You saw against Norwich and a difficult opponent in Grant Holt, he can cope, he’s in great condition and he did very well.
"There is no doubt we’ve missed the leadership he offers. I put him in because we’ve got to kick on and we’ve got to improve.
“In the big games we want to kick on, and for that you need experience, leadership and organisation - just fine lines really that can make the difference for you. That is something I know Jamie has got.”
Carragher admits he has a tough decision to make, because it will be hard to turn his back on a club he has served for 17 years as a first team player.
He is second in the all time appearance list for the club behind Ian Callaghan and has played more games in Europe for Liverpool than any other player, but he still has a real desire to play in the Premier League, and he revealed he will wait to see how the season pans out.
“I’ll chat to the manager at the end of the season. I’m open-minded and I’m sure the club are. It’s not about what I’m going to do, that’s something we can sort out one way or another,” he explained.
“It’s up to the manager and the club to make a decision about a new contract. It’s down to them. I’m pleased I got a game at the weekend and I’ll hope to get a few more games now.
“I played in the FA Cup, missed the United game but played against Norwich.
"The manager has kept me involved, but the Premier League is the most important thing.

Liverpool, Juventus eye Melbourne Victory star Marco Rojas

LIVERPOOL and Juventus representatives will be scouting Melbourne Victory winger Marco Rojas at AAMI Park in Saturday's blockbuster against Sydney FC.

The Herald Sun understands the two world football giants have tracked Rojas in recent weeks and want to watch him against Sydney FC before deciding whether to launch bids.

Should he impress, one or both could make offers for the 21-year-old as early as next week.

But Victory was confident of retaining Rojas for its finals assault this season.

Rojas, whose contract expires in three months, is managed by his father Rodi.

A January sale would command a transfer fee. If he left at the end of the season and doesn't sign a new deal, Victory wouldn't receive a transfer fee, but it would pocket around $180,000 in training compensation.

Should Liverpool or Juventus bid for Rojas before the transfer window closes on January 31, the clubs are looking at a fee in the region of the $750,000 Central Coast received from Celtic for Tom Rogic.
The pint-sized Kiwi has dominated this season with 10 goals and five assists from 15 games.

Juventus are deploying scouts, former players currently involved in the Italian giants' soccer academy in Melbourne.

Victory coach Ange Postecoglou claimed he was unaware of the specific interest but said he would be surprised if overseas clubs weren't keeping tabs on Rojas.

He said the club had remained in regular contact with the Rojas camp and was confident of keeping him until the end of the season.

"I'm in contact with his dad very regularly and at this stage we're confident he'll stay with us until the end of the season," Postecoglou said.

"We've been in constant discussion with Marco and from our point of view we're very happy with his form this season and how he's developing and his development is a priority.

"At this stage we're comfortable with how he's going and where things are at."

*LESS than 400 tickets remain for Alessandro Del Piero's first visit to Melbourne.
