The not so Official January Transfer Rumour Thread

Is he an Eriksen type of player or more a tricky winger? I've never seen him play, and as I reckon you have loads I'd love a more thorough breakdown of his PROs and CONs ability wise.

I am quietly optimistic on behalf of this signing judging from peoples reactions (and his name) I am however slightly concerned he's not Danish (and the fact that he seems to struggle to get a game with Inter, doesn't seem to score much and looks very light-weight overall and Coldplay is being used in a compilation of his).

Ha! You can call him Coutsen, if you want.

Like I said, Coutinho is a Kaka/Oscar type. I don't see him as a CM at all; he has to play in attack. For me, his dribbling ability and short passing are his two most outstanding qualities. He has good awareness of the teammates' movements too - he is a type of player who communicates through playing, rather than putting his head down and trying to use his technique to beat the whole opposing team. He seems to rely on dribbling a bit more than Oscar or Kaka, but he is not a showboater - I don't recall seeing a whole lot of pointless tricks from him.

To succeed in European football he may need to bulk up a bit and develop a harder shot, work on his stamina and defensive part of the game - all typical problems for a Brazilian attacking player of his age. He is pretty much equally good with both feet and at Inter I mostly saw him play behind the striker(s). But in England, I'm pretty sure he would be used mostly on the wing.

One problem with this lad may be a work permit btw

Is that something you're hearing or just an assumption? Cos you'd have thought Ian Ayre would've already checked that out.

Hang on.

Something that's been mentioned although, without coming across as tragic and embarrassing, I'm wondering how Man Utd got around this when they signed the Da Silva twins.

Surely given the fact that Coutinho is already playing in Europe it should be straightforward?

It's not like we're trying to get some no mark from the Brazilian league.

How did Utd get a work permit for that Portuguese guy, the one from the 3rd division... I forget his name.

Bebe?

Duh, if he's Portuguese he doesn't need a work permit.

I haven't been so excited about a potential signing courtesy of a youtube video since we signed Assaidi

Yada yada looks great on you tube but if he is that good why are Inter letting him go and "only" for 10m euros? especially as they arent nailed on to qualify for for the CL.

Financial issues apparently. It's why Sneijder left

It actually is quite exciting. For years we've all said we need to sign top end talent before they become so desirable they're out of our reach. This is a prime case of this. The lad has skills a plenty from what little I've seen and certainly pace to burn. He could improve the team and, if it didn't work out, we're still likely to get a healthy return on our investment. I'm excited at the though of this more so than Sneijder as he's young which means he'll be hungry. The downsides are youth, a new country to settle into and inexperience but well worth the risk in my opinion - for what little that's worth
Is this a sign that our scouting team are actually scouting properly now?

Sky Sports understands that Liverpool are continuing talks with Inter Milan over Philippe Coutinho.
The Reds are understood to have already had one bid rejected by Inter, which was in the region of £6.75million.
Now the clubs are holding further discussions and the expectation is that a deal will be concluded shortly with Liverpool

paying £8million.
The 20-year-old, who was linked with a move to Aston Villa

earlier in the window, now looks close to becoming Liverpool's second signing this month.
Coutinho, who joined Inter from Vasco da Gama in 2010, spent last season on loan at Espanyol

before returning to the San Siro in the summer.
He has featured five times for Inter so far this term.

I'm deliriously excited about this. A front 3 of Coutinho, Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Suso is gonna rip defences to shreds with the footballs.
