Strootman Move Preferred Over Potential Eriksson Bid?

A growing number of reports are coming in that the Reds are looking to sign the Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman from PSV Eindhoven in the summer.
Strootman, a traditional number 8, has impressed both in his domestic league and in the Dutch national team, with former coach Bert Van Marwijk praising the midfielder for his vision.
Strootman mainly plays centrally but can play anywhere in the midfield if needed as either a defensive midfielder or a deep lying playmaker. At only 22 Strootman has been capped 15 times for the Netherlands where he’s worked effectively with Rafael van der Vaart and is firmly established in the national side.
This news does come as a surprise as Strootman has been a long-term target for Manchester United, but now reports by credible journalists in the Sunday Times are certain that whilst United do still like the player, the Liverpool interest is much stronger.

Is "traditional number 8" Ray Houghton of 88/89, John Aldridge of 89/90 (when pushed out of 9 by Rush) or Steven Gerrard of now?

(Who had 8 between 90 and when Gerrard took it on ... Mark Walters & others?)

I'm truly upset to be considered a dumb cunt by a total stranger. And I always liked you because you you have a picture of Oddball as your avatar. *sobs*
I think you are neither dumb nor cunt.
Thats why I said it. Youve consistently proved a top lad, but THAT was a dumb cunts thing to say.
Apologies for making you think i thought YOU were a dumb cunt.

Impressive your knowledge of the number 8 is.
In the land of Holland, the number 8 probably refers to a box-to-box midfielder (brilliant guess)!

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina could be a summer target for Atletico Madrid, according to reports in Spain.
The Spaniard has endured a mixed season at Anfield, failing to immediately dislodge Brad Jones once he had recovered from a hamstring injury.
Reina has now regained his place, but he has been linked with a move away from Anfield, with Arsenal reportedly keen on signing the 30-year-old.
And now AS have claimed that Atletico are considering making an offer for Reina this summer.
On-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Coutrois has been first-choice at Atletico for the past two seasons, but the Belgian is expected to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
And Reina is reportedly high on Atletico's list of potential replacements, although Osasuna stopper Andres Fernandez is their prime target.
But the newspaper report that both Barcelona and Real Madrid are weighing up moves for Fernandez, meaning Atletico need a back-up plan - with Reina thought to be a likely candidate.

No its not impressive ... it stems from the few years when I really enjoyed going to the match (late 80's until we stopped winning the league) and now ... you may notice a massive gap of all those grey years in between wehn I dont know who wore 8. "Now" will also become part of those grey years, but luckily Gerrard has done enough that I wont forget him .. just everyone who played/plays alongside him

What's happened to this Norwegian lad then?

About to sign for Southampton. According to Moldes GM, they recieved a bid from Southampton and informed us. Rodgers told Molde that we wouldnt follow up our interest as Forren then didnt come on trial either.

Our interest wasnt high, but if he had done alright in training then we might have signed hm.

That's my fav period too, and not just because we were winning everything, we were magic during the late that period, a midfield/forward line of Beardsley, Barnes, Houghton and Aldridge, sexy sexy football.

So, Remy to QPR is done and apperantly M'Vila is about to follow.
Who says CL is important to all players these days and money isnt everything....

QPR are gonna be fucked at this rate, I know they've got money, but can they seriously sustain it? They're in danger of being relegated and trying to buy their way out of trouble. A few hiccups bedding in these players and they'll be left with a crippling wage bill in the wrong league.

Indeed. Said this in the summer. Cesar, Bosingwa, Zamora, Johnson and Park are on awfully high wages and apperantly several of the top earners dont have a wage reduction in their contract if they are relegated.
If they go down they'll be in serious trouble.

They've made some truly awful signings but I don't think Remy and M'Vila fall into those categories necessarily. Those two won't stick around to play in the Championship and QPR will get their money back as the buy-out clauses are probably around what they paid (not much). A risk certainly worth taking.

The previous management team(s) have a lot to answer for though.

Not sure how true this is:

Liverpool have agreed to meet with Ajax 23 year old attacking midfielder Siem De Jong later this week for contract talks, according to Ajax chairman Hennie Henrichs in a interview with Dutch paper Telesport.
De Jong started his first team career at Ajax back in 2007, 133 matches with 45 goals and 58 assists. The 23 year old midfielder have always been very similar to Liverpools captain Steven Gerrard and have always been compared with him.
De Jongs transfer fee is about £10m, but Ajax are willing for a cut down to £3,5m if Assaidi is a part of the deal.

But Redknapp said he had no qualms about the highly sought-after player.
"He played against England a couple of years ago for France, and was fantastic," Redknapp said.
"Rennes turned down £28m from an English club for him a year ago. Spurs offered £15m for him in August. The deal looks OK.
"M'Vila's had a few off-the-field problems. If he behaves himself, and plays as we know he can, he'll do well."
"The type of money hopefully we can pull off two deals for is fantastic."

they're getting him for like 7m aren't they ? you'd wonder why the club who bid 28m aren't interested , or spurs again .

Attitude aside , is he not the sort of player we could do with ?

I've seen loads of Ajax and Siem de Jong over the past years and I'm still not quite sure what to make of him. He can be quite good but he can also disappear out of games completely.

He's not an obvious talent, but he is a strong, tall lad that always score goals. Decent technique and good in the air. I believe that at least half of his goals comes from an set-piece.

He's by no means in the same talent bracket as Suarez, but he could turn out to be useful. I am not convinced though. To compare him to Gerrard is just wrong btw.

What would Tom Ince to Swansea mean for both them and Liverpool?

The young winger is being linked with a move to Swansea despite being a long-term target for Liverpool. Could that move mean a potential exit from the Liberty Stadium and a new potential arrival at Anfield?
Liverpool have struggled recently when it comes to competition for a players signature. In the summer it was widely believed they lost out to Southampton for Gaston Ramirez and they once again seem on the cusp of that exact same fate in relation to their attempts to sign Norwegian international centre-back Vegard Forren.
Now they are reportedly set to face another battle to sign a player who was seemingly on his way to Anfield just a month ago. Thomas Ince was reportedly heading for a return to Anfield in a deal worth £6million just 18 months after leaving the club for Blackpool. That deal has been stalled in recent weeks and it is now reported that Swansea City are apparently ready to rival Liverpool for his signature with a £7 million bid.

It would certainly be an excellent move for Swansea if they could pull it off but what would the connotations be for both clubs if Tom Ince did end up at Swansea?

What it would mean for Swansea City

Well at Swansea Tom Ince would be a certain hit. His positive style of play would certainly fit in with Michael Laudrup’s footballing philosophy. But it would also make the winger department at the Liberty Stadium an increasingly crowded section. With Wayne Routledge, Pablo Hernandez, Nathan Dyer and new signing Roland Lamah all already in South Wales it would leave the Dane with perhaps one to many options to fill the wide berth. While some of those players have certainly dabbled with more central roles this season and in the past it would be more than likely to see one of them leave the club; with the most likely victim to be Nathan Dyer.

What it would mean for Liverpool

For Liverpool it would be something of a mini-disaster if they did miss out on Ince. At the moment it seems Suso; for all his talent cannot play week-in-week-out and sustain a high level of performance at his age while much has already been made of the overuse and potential burning out of Raheem Sterling. Stewart Downing has been playing but Rodgers is still keen to see the back of him due to his massive wages. With Fabio Borini back in the fold it does ease the burden slightly but it also means Daniel Sturridge may have to be used out wide; clearly not his favourite or best position.

LIVERPOOL have defended their £8.6m outlay on agents fees – but they are determined to reduce that figure in 2013.

The Reds were the second biggest spenders on agents in the Premier League for the 12 months up to last September.

Only champions Manchester City (£10.5m) shelled out more and Liverpool’s outlay was up £1.6m compared to the previous year.

"Most clubs are paying the same amount to agents in terms of a percentage of fees," insisted Reds MD Ian Ayre.

"It comes down to how much you are actually spending. As we are in a building process and changing lots of players that’s going to see a lot of agents fees, but we will always try to reduce that amount.

"Any chief executive or MD will tell you the same thing – like everything in life agents are a mixed bag.

"Some are hugely committed to their players and spend a lot of time watching and supporting their players. Others come in, do the deal and you never see them again.

"Our job is to get the best deal for the football club. They are there to do best they can for their players. It’s a necessary part of business.

"It’s the nature of the beast but it’s something we are trying to manage prudently and trying to make sure we get value for money.

"We’re trying to make sure agents understand we will only pay for the right contribution from both the agent and the players."
