The not so Official January Transfer Rumour Thread

Yep, australia...I do have a 6 month old who takes up 99% of my life these days. I used to be on top of this shit.

Thanks for the memories Joe!...So we will be signing Sneijder tomorrow then. Sorted!

He struggled with injuries last season, but scored 6 goals and created 9 assists in 28 games.
This year he's been frozed out due to the wage cut issue, but has 6 games 2 goals and 3 assists.

The thing is, he's not played much and there are big question marks about his desire and commitment.
Great player but is he the right type of person to get in and its a shitload of money aswell.

Think he'll move to Gala and be paid a fortune. That seems to be his interet these days.

And what's the problem been for the last 18 months?

Injuries last year - though when he played, he was as solid as ever. This year, it's money it seems.

hansern also talks about something that would worry me greatly (commitment) - and that's the main reason I'd be very very hesitant to commit to him. If he goes to the right set up (don't think that's us), he'll be fine.

I wish he would just shut the fuck up for 2 minutes. If we have the dosh or we dont.

My head says we have dosh, but our owners won't back him now for fear of Carroll MK II

My heart says we have dosh, and he'll be back handsomely in the summer ... Hopefully he's successful.

I don't doubt we have money and I also like the fact we are being prudent with trimming wages and making some quick decisions when things arent working, e.g. Sahin (although I liked him) but I have some serious doubts about BR's ability to buy the players we need in the defensive half of the pitch.
If he buys a strong ball winning DM and a centre half who can head a ball i'd be happy, and mildly surprised.

The trimmed wage bill is good, but gives me fuck all in the way of solace when I look at our league position, or the glaring problems we have on the pitch.

You could be right defensively, I'd love Rodgers to buy a defensive coach, whilst I understand if the team all play the way he wants us too it'll be less of an issue, that's a way off, & regardless, teaching them basic defensive skills & some set pieces to get them at a similar level as clarke did would still be an asset.

Tying down Skrtl and Agger may have been his priority regarding working on the back 4. Unlike Rafa, Houllier and evan Evans, he appears to have started with rectifying our forward line (Allen purchase aside), I'm hoping that in the summer, alongside a creative central midfielder he makes a few buys to sort out the glaring holes and deficiencies we all know are there. He's had one full window and part of this one, if he can buy a strong left back and a DM i'd be happy. A left-back because we need cover and so that the best attacking right full-back in the league is not sacrificed every time we have an injury.

My head says the dosh we have to spend will be only that within our means. The days of massive investment in players are going and are certainly gone for us

Sky said yesterday that we're not interested in Sneijder. The question I have is why would we not be interested in him? He seems to be available for around 8million. Is it wages? Attitude? Its certainly not ability or experience.

Wages will be a part of it, but Sneijder's going to have to rethink that if he doesn't want to p!$$ his career away altogether.

I have another question. WTF do Sky know anyway?

Would be a tremendous signing. The best one since Suarez I believe. If he's even slightly interested I say show him the money.

After all we've spunked £120k a week on a Joe Cole so unless he demands £1000k a week he'd represent value for money.

Amazing player that would give our attacking play a much needed flair-injection.

.................................Henderson..............Allen..........................
Gerrard...................................Sneijder........................Sturridge
...........................................Suarez............................................

Well that was another reason why I havent given up hope of the deal. If hes available and interested in coming here we should be all over it in my opinion.

If we don't put in a bid for Sneijder we need fucking shooting. Seriously. 8 million quid is a steal. And he's exactly the sort of midfielder we need right now.

I bet he'll accept whatever deal Joe Cole got.

Sneijder is on a reported 220k Euros a week which equates to something like 180k pounds a week which I believe is double what Cole was on. I don't think the lower Italian tax rate comes into play though as there's loopholes around standard income tax

Well - it would cost the same overall (based on salary etc) - so why not go for the younger, hungrier player.
Good point, I do however feel that we're lacking a bit of routine in midfield as well. I know Gerrard's there but apart from him they are all quite young and inexperienced, Lucas aside. And I am still not sure he's going to be a regular starter when Rodger's gets his team right.
