The not so Official January Transfer Rumour Thread

Anyone seen much of Lewis Holtby? Saw him against Arsenal in the CL and he looked good.

"he admitted he will be looking for proven top-flight performers when the window reopens in the summer"

Cue Rosco

Does that mean Ince and Sturridge are not proven top-flight performers?

Yet again, only half way through the season and already looking forward to an exciting sum..........

I couldn't 'even bring myself to finish that sentence!

He leaves it a bit open-ended. What he says about Villa (there's a fair bit of other stuff in there too) is this:

1. He won't go anywhere this January unless someone bids really silly money;
2. However, he is unhappy with the way things are panning out for him at Barca and a summer move for around £16 mill.is possible;
3. In Spain, Citeh are being linked with him along with us, the Arse and the Chavs (I was waiting for Hunter to say we're at the back of the queue, but he never did); and
4. Villa's still a cracking player with a good scoring record despite relatively few opportunities, would be well suited to the Prem and would be well worth that fee.

Joe Cole is requesting a £3.6m pay-off from Liverpool to quit the Merseyside club in January.

£3.6M / 18 months ~= £45k/week

Why pay anything, we pay nothing if he puts in a transfer request. We would only have to pay £2.6M in wages if we keep him until Summer.

I'd prefer to call his bluff, pay his wages and play him once a month for 10 minutes. At his age he's got little choice.

Sounds like a plan. One small problem, this is LFC so we'll follow a path which will mean we bend over, turn down the offer of lube and then get bummed into next year.

We'll end up paying for his wages regardless. 3,6 mill is horrendous, but If he stays for 18 months it will cost us 7 mill.

Surely it would be more cost effective if someone accidentally snapped both of Cole's legs in a freak training accident that meant he could never play again and we collect the insurance.

Dubious link with Pato. He used to be fantastic a few years back, I'm not sure why he has been relatively poor over the last few years, injuries?

AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato is still a target for Chelsea and Liverpool despite reports claiming the Brazil striker was bound for Corinthians, according to talkSPORT.

He's only 23 so worth a punt? I have no idea how good he is now but would be a sexy signing.

I'd be worried about his health but if he's a decent fee (10 mill?), it's worth it as we'd get the same fee back if we moved him to Corinthinans or Sao Paulo (where there is money nowadays) in 1-3 years.

He looked awesome a few years back, anywhere near that form and we would have a player and a half.
