Forget Tottenham! Wesley Sneijder is now heading to Liverpool for just €10m

… or so says Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Whether it be Tottenham or now Liverpool, once again this Sunday Inter Milan fans have been reassured that Dutch superstar Wesley Sneijder is almost certainly heading out of the San Siro this January.
Sneijder, 28, has not played for Inter Milan for three months due to a dispute with the Nerazzurri which was reportedly over his refusal to take a pay cut. Outside Andrea Stramaccioni’s first team, Wesley is now set to be shipped out of Serie A.
Last week the internet was abuzz after news broke that Spurs had agreed personal terms with Dutch playmaker Sneijder. According to those reports just a few days ago, Sneijder was simply waiting for Spurs and Inter Milan to agree terms over a 12 million euros deal set to be completed early in the transfer window.
Fast forward four days, and now Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool are said to be in pole position to sign one of the best players roaming the planet. And for just €10m (£8.19m)!

If Rodgers pulls this off, we better fire him.

The 200k a week is a concern though. I'm guessing Inter will pay a part of them but its still a massive amount.

I refuse to believe that out off all the clubs he would choose to come to us who aren't even in the champions league. Im not getting my hopes up to see it destroyed so easily.

I will get a spontaneous erection if we sign him.

It just won't happen though. The signing that is, rather than the erection, although old age is taking its toll.

What's Sneijder like these days?

The last I saw him consistently was a few years back when he was at Real Madrid. There he was brilliant and they were mad to get rid of him. I've only seen him in CL games since and nothing really in the last year.

I get a sense of Joe Cole esque dread about Sneijder joining us for some reason.

The negative vibes is just engrained now Keni as a defense mechanism ...

I saw him a few times during Mourinho's treble and the year after with Rafa and he's as solid as ever. He's far far more mobile than Joe Cole, and controls the game really well (What happens to Allen?) ... Also a threat from distance all the time.

I doubt the link is true ... but I'd guess the only reason he'd want to come here is a) we're the only club in for him (doubtful) or b) he wants to play with Gerrard (& SUarez).

Another issue is that we've already got Allen and Sahin who more or less do what he does.

How much money are we going to spend on one position?

sniejder plays further forward than allen i thought. Plus BR said he wants proven experienced players in that final 3rd and he's definitely that. but we ALL know its not gonna happen so stop thinking about it, its less painful that way.

Sneijder doesn't play in the final third. And all this talk of one midfielders best position being 5 yards in front of or behind where they're actually playing is annoying and stupid.

Sneijder isn't suited to playing where Shelvey is currently or Gerrard used to - though neither is Shelvey and I have no idea why he is actually playing there other than the fact that he likes to shoot.

That said, Sneijder has a Riise like propensity to shoot from distance so perhaps I've answered my own question.

Sahin and Sneijder doesnt play in the same position.
Sneijder is best behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 imho.

Regardless, this could all be agent talk.

I don't think I've ever really seen him play in that position. Not for Holland or for Real Madrid. He gets forward a lot but that's the nature of the teams he plays for and his mentality / ability as a player.

He plays better in a 4-3-3, which incidentally I think we should switch to regardless of whether we get him (we won't) or someone like him. We don't have anyone that plays well in the hole right now - unless we can get Gerrard from 4 years ago or Suso in 4 years time.

The rumour makes it on to the front page of Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport which claims that the Reds have already made contact with Inter Milan and Sneijder about a possible move.
Liverpool feel they could nab the 28-year-old Dutch midfielder for a cut price £9.5 million and Inter may be willing to sell at that price to get Sneijder's massive £200,000-a-week wage packet off the books.
However, those same wages could ultimately be the stumbling block for Liverpool, who would have to shatter their wage structure to bring in Sneijder even though Gazzetta claims Liverpool's American owners are keen to revive the club's glory days.
Sneijder is believed to want a move to Manchester United, but while Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of the star, the Scot has already said he has no plans to sign anyone in January.
Other clubs linked with Sneijder include Tottenham, Schalke, PSG and Anzhi with the latter two the only sides out of that quartet who would likely be able to match Sneijder's current salary.

Sneijder told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf over Christmas: "Clearly it’s better for everyone if I leave in January.
"If that doesn’t happen, then I will stay. I have a contract until the end of June 2015 with Inter."
Sunday's British papers are always good for some tittle-tattle. The Sunday Mirror claims that Real Madrid are planning a £33 million bid for Tottenham's Gareth Bale but will be told by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy they will need to cough up £60m for the Welsh wizard despite the 'special agreement' between the two clubs.
LA Galaxy have identified Frank Lampard as the 'new Beckham' and are willing to offer the Chelsea star the same wage they paid out to Becks to move to the US.
The England midfielder could earn $6.5million a year — equal to £4million — plus a potential $1million (£619,000) in merchandise sales. (The Lying Rag)
Manchester City are looking around Europe to sign a top quality defender to act as a reliable partner for Vincent Kompany, according to the Times.
"City’s scouting list includes Borussia Dortmund’s central defensive pair of Mats Hummels, a Germany international, and Neven Subotic, who plays for Serbia. They are also looking at Nicolas N’Koulou of Olympique Marseilles," reports the paper.
The Mail on Sunday also says City could move for Stoke's Ryan Showcross who may be sold in the transfer window if he doesn’t sign a six-year deal offered recently.
Chelsea are confident they have won the £40m race for Colombian star Radamel Falcao ahead of Inter Milan and Bayern Munich as they can offer wages in excess of £150,000-a-week to the Atletico Madrid goal machine. (Sunday Mirror).
A bargaining tool for Chelsea could be goalie Thibaut Courtois. The 20-year-old was signed by Chelsea from Belgian club Genk for £5m last year and immediately loaned out to Atletico. Atletico may ask for him as part of any deal involving Falcao - with Courtois valued at £10m.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain will this week open talks with Ashley Cole about a summer move. But Cole may decide to keep his options open, with his Chelsea contract due to expire at the end of the season and Manchester City and Manchester United monitoring the situation. (Sunday Mirror)
Real are also keen on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea and will bid £22 million for the 22-year-old in the summer. (The Lying Rag)
Sir Alex Ferguson has slammed the door on Arsenal’s hopes of signing Nani in the January transfer window. The Portuguese winger has been strongly tipped for a move to the Emirates but Ferguson said: “We won’t be letting him go.” (The Times)
Finally, Norwich manager Chris Hughton will go back for £3m Brighton striker Craig Mackail-Smith after missing out on him in the summer. (Mail on Sunday)

Ashley Cole has just turned 32 and out of contract in the summer. Chelsea really are mad when it comes to their one season contract rule.

Can I just throw something in here to spike the ideas of Schneider coming to Liverpool, I love Liverpool as you know, and think it's as good if not better than anywhere to live, but Yolanthe might take a bit of convincing, I would have thought she would not be looking past London if they came to the UK.

Why though? Of the various midfielders we have, I can only think of Allen (and possibly Shelvey) who's suited in a 4-3-3. The rest - Lucas, Henderson, Sahin, Gerrard and Suso are all pretty patently 4-2-3-1 footballers.
