Liverpool are on the cusp of signing Italy forward Fabio Borini, after agreeing an £11 million deal with Roma, and are also closing in on Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Igor Denisov.

The 21-year-old will link up with boss Brendan Rodgers for the third time, having worked under him at Chelsea and Swansea, and will be his first acquisition as Liverpool manager. The news comes after a week of intense negotiations, in which Roma initially announced that they had no intention of parting with Borini, after bagging him on a £4 million permanent deal from Parma last month. However, sensing Liverpool's desire to bag the Italy international, Roma have now accepted an bumper £11 million offer, and Borini is expected on Merseyside in the next 48 hours to agree personal terms and pass a medical.

Liverpool are not stopping there though, and will now turn to other targets, such as Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez and Zenit midfielder Igor Denisov.
The club have been in talks with Bologna over Ramirez for the past two weeks, but are struggling to agree terms on a possible move, leaving the player frustrated. Yet a move for Zenit enforcer Denisov is a lot closer, with reports in Russia suggesting a £7 million deal could be a matter of days away.
Denisov, a graduate of the Zenit academy setup, has played almost 300 games for the club, but is now seeking a new challenge, having just secured his third league title.

Coach Luciano Spalletti has urged Denisov to stay, but a suitable offer from Liverpool would be difficult to turn down.

Now i don't know much about any of those 3 players we're linked with, but it certainly makes a nice change to be actually addressing the positions we're weak in.

Borini is a done deal. Denisov is apparently a defensive midfielder of sorts and Ramirez an upgrade on Downing.

Denisov for 7M is doable but Ramirez would be costly if the media reports are in the ball park of 16M.

As can be.

Brendan Rodgers wants Maxi Rodriguez to extend his Anfield stay.

The boss has had discussions with the Argentina international and admits his future is not certain.
However, Rodgers is an admirer of Maxi's talents and hopes he can be persuaded to remain on Merseyside for the forthcoming season.
He explained: "I have known about Maxi for a long time. He will understand 120 per cent about the way I want us to play.
"But sometimes there are issues that surround that - that's what I am speaking to him about now. He doesn't speak the language, it has been difficult for his family.
"If a player like him wanted to leave, it would not be because of the club. Sometimes it is just personal issues. I have had a couple of really good conversations with him. I know his thoughts and how he is thinking. It was a difficult season for him. He probably felt that he should have played more.
"We will hopefully see where he is at over the next couple of weeks and find a solution for him.
"But he would be a very good player for our squad."
Maxi has scored 17 goals in 73 appearances for Liverpool since being signed from Atletico Madrid in January 2010.

I hope he stays..
Fine little classy player.
Obviously would suit him better to play under Rodgers I was just growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of determination and his ability to completely disappear from matches (even in the ones he were playing).

However as you say he's a fine footballer no one doubting that and can he find the will and desire to play for us under the new manager I'd like him to stay as well.

Know what you mean mate but when he's on his game, his movement, passing and finishing is a joy to watch.
If Rodgers manages to get his team playing the way he wants, it'll force Maxi to be more involved, as the ball would go through every single player on the pitch, whereas in certain games in the past, we often resorted to either lumping it up the pitch and hoping for the best, or completely ignoring the great runs he'd make and playing it safe instead of getting the ball through behind the defense.
Maybe that sort of thing is what made him uninterested at times? Who knows.

Maxi guarantees a goal every four games, and has done for pretty much his entire career. And he knows how to pass and move. We should definitely keep him if we can.
