The sooner Spearing leaves the better. He would be like Kryptonite to Brendan's system.
Thought he was more of a defensive midfielder tbh. Judging from that, he's anything but. Although it's hard to judge going by a Youtube compilation.
What we really missed last season was exactly that ... look at Maxi, when he played he was invariably in the right place for a tap in every couple of matches and no-one else seemed to pick up that particular baton when he wasn't playing. I'd love someone in the team who can be there in the right place at the right time. Whoever it is.
Diame to replace Spearing? I don't get this ... probably 35-45k/week over 20k/week and a home grown lad. I'd stick with Spearing - he's not great, but he's a fighter and gives 110% every time he's on the pitch. He's not as bad as people make out, and for being a 4th/5th option - it's not worth selling.
See, that's the bit that makes me want to replace him with someone better.

The stuff that I read seems to suggest Dmishra is right, we're looking pretty closely at Benzema and hope to tie up a deal before the France vs England next week. Not really though, I'm lying.
I like Spearing, but he should have improved more than he did last season. Like *all* of our midfielders, he is not flattered when playing beside SG in midfield. Stevie is the real kryptonite to our CM, and needs to play further up the field.
I thought a lot of people have went overboard on Jay since the FA cup loss because of his error 'costing us the goal'. Let's make it clear that it wasn't his error that cost us the goal. He made a mistake in their half. Enrique's terrible defensive work and Reina's aberration in nets cost us the goal.
Anyone who watched much of Jay for the reserves knows he has got so much more in the locker if he can get some confidence.

I'd just like to say that the use of term 'in nets' has given me a smile. And I agree, short of Riise heading the ball into the Kop goal because he couldn't kick with his right foot, it's rare that an individual is responsible for a goal. It's a team game. Enrique and Reina both could have made up for the mistake from Jay. A woeful goal to concede all round.

Agreed with a proviso. Even in the reserves Jay lacked consistency. He would quite often make a 30 yard pass or hit a decent shot, only to completely scuff the ball the next time he tried to do something similar. I'm not convinced he will ever eliminate these mistakes from his game (of course you can never eliminate them completely, even the best players make mistakes, but minimise these to an acceptable level).
He has been asked to effectively replace Lucas as a DM. He's versatile and has done a decent job, but he really should be playing beside a DM as a second midfielder, almost where Xabi used to play (obviously in a different role to Xabi more in in-keeping with his skillset). This way he can bring the ball forward and we can use his long passing to make counter attacks. He can also make runs to the edge of the box from deep.
I think he does no harm by having him as a squad player. He will also be able to carve out a career for himself at a lower level team, but I don't think he will ever be good enough for anything more than squad player.
It's all over the place, though there are several twitter sources if you look hard enough. How long can I be arsed carrying this on for until Hansern notices and becomes really disappointed?
