ES source is gerrard, I doubt even gerrard knows where xabi will be come the new season.

Yes, I imagine Elisha has only logged on to YNWA because he's sick to death of hearing Gerrard talking dreamily about 'Glen said this' and 'Glen likes that' and 'Glen's really funny' etc etc.
Fucking hell Macca. You're brilliant.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

So, AS and Marca reporting today that Xabis fate will be decided the 19th. Thats when he returns from training. They seem to think he has called Rafa and asked for a transfer. Real will return with a 30 mill bid this week.

If Xabi wants to go, then thats it. Speculative of course.
20 mill + Robben and its a deal.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

The 19th is also the date when Socieadad's claim on sell-on fees expires isn't it?

Yeah it's all been reported for weeks in Spain, the two tie in and that's why Madrid are waiting.

I don't understand this sell-on clause date thing. He signed in late August 2004 (20th?) and so surely IF there was a sell on clause it would expire on a date that is linked to this i.e "sell within 5 years and we get 20%". "Sell within 4yrs and 11 months and .." doesn't seem terribly likely?

I checked out the date that Alonso signed too, and I have to say I agree with you on that. It does seem strange.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Real Madrid are reportedly scared off by Udinese’s new £22m price-tag for Gaetano D’Agostino, turning their focus back to Xabi Alonso.

The Italian international with one cap to his name was a confirmed target for the Merengues, who stated publicly that they were interested in the midfielder.

While Juventus had baulked at the original asking price of £14m, it seems that when Real came on the scene, Udinese added an extra £8m to the bill.

The switch did not impress Madrid directors, who instead are turning their attention back towards Liverpool star Xabi Alonso.

It might take as much as £50m to prise the Spaniard away from Rafa Benitez, but for a club that has already paid £80m for Cristiano Ronaldo and £60m for Kaka this summer, it is not out of the question.

The scenario with D’Agostino is not over yet either, as a meeting is planned between President Gino Pozzo and Real director Jorge Valdano on Monday.

For £50m they can have Alonso.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

If Xabi DOES sign for Real, he'll become very disliked in his native region. He's more likely to sign for Barca than Real.

But as I said, for £50m, we'd have to consider it.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

1438 BST: Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini says the club remain hopeful of landing Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso but admits it "won't be easy".

Pellegrini also said media reports that Real's entire contingent of six Dutch players, including Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder, would be leaving were inaccurate. (Reuters)

Madrid is the obvious choice. They need someone to dictate the play and control the tempo and feed the new Galacticos. Alonso is the perfect man for that job, pity he's our though so they can fuck off.

It's odd that the Basque sitaution have never been brought up. I thought Xabi turned them down before he joined us.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Anyone do a swap, van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder for Xabi?

Throw in 10m & I'd agree.

Seriously. We should fucking bend these cunts over. Alonso has THREE years left on his contract, they cant find anotehr player like him & he's exactly what they need. He's also a very important player for us.

The ball is in our court, well & truly.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I'd take Robben and £5 Million for Xabi.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

If Real are short of spanish players, does that mean they have to field their b-team players in the CL?

Fucking hell!

That's Parry-esque.

We're asking for 50m. We expect 35m. Therefore you're valuing Robben at 30m. That a staggering over valuation, I reckon they'd get 10m, perhaps 15m max for Robben now.

Another reason why we have them over a barrel. Let's shaft the cunts. Thus far I'm made up with Rafa's handling of this particular part of the affair.

We should just take the money. Why would should we want any of Madrid's rejects? They were a distinctly average team in an arguably weaker league.

Real Madrid Decrease Offer For Liverpool's Xabi Alonso - Report
The Blancos have downsized their bid, according to the Spanish press...

Spanish sports daily Marca claims that Real Madrid have decreased their offer for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso by €3m in the face of a lack of response from the English club.

According to the Sunday edition of the Madrid-based paper, the Merengues' original offer of €27m expired on July 8, necessitating a new bid.

This offer has apparently been replaced by a decreased bid of €24m in an attempt to coax a response from the Anfield outfit.

At a weekend press conference coach Manuel Pellegrini stated that the Spanish international would fit nicely into his new-look, Galactico-studded line-up, as speculation over the ex-Real Sociedad crack's future heats up.

It is further rumoured that Xabi is keen to return to Spain, having apparently communicated these wishes to his coach, Rafael Benitez.
