-Liverpool must pay debt as soon as possible. Then, it's also important to remark that it's better for both clubs to negotiate at the end of the month so Real Sociedad doesn't receive a percentage of the fee.

This just sounds like beefing up the same old story. Are RBS now waiting for a few million from selling a midfielder? Talk about trying to sound in the know.

Apparently this guy has a very good record and had announced that Kaka and Ronaldo would be Madrid's first signings two weeks ago:

- David Villa will be the third signing of Florentino, as we all know already. Negredo is wanted by Valencia.

- David Silva does want to come to Real Madrid but Valencia don't even want to listen to offers. The player is seriously pissed off.

- Xabi Alonso also wants to come to Real Madrid. He didn't like at all the fact Rafa Benitez wanted to sell him last season. One of the conditions Benitez has imposed is that it's Xabi the one who has to talk and say he wants to leave. Gareth Barry was of the main options for him to substitute but now he's not available he's not convinced he should let Xabi go. It's also been said that Benitez is NOT interested in Negredom he only wants money. And Liverpool must pay debt as soon as possible. Then, it's also important to remark that it's better for both clubs to negotiate at the end of the month so Real Sociedad doesn't receive a percentage of the fee.

- And then, Pellegrini is obsessed with Cazorla. Apparently he doesn't stop talking about him... So we'll see...
Is it true about the Sociedad share of the fee expiring at the end of the month? Seems odd to have a time limit on that kind of clause.
He signed a five year deal with us from Real Sociedad which would expire on 30/6/09 so I expect any terms agreed attaching to that deal could expire also.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

sell him... we do not need a replacement.. we have a beefed up lucas who is set to have his best season ever!!!!

He is guaranteed at least two superb games next season, against er.. Newcastle... oh....

oh and promote Spearing to the first team..

sorted.. 🙂

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Hmmmmmm, the more days that go by without Xabi himself coming out and saying that he wants to stay, the more inclined I am to believe he could leave.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I'm afraid that's right. He's had long enough to say something along those lines by now. At the very least he seems to be keeping his options open.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Just because Xabi's tempted by the move doesn't mean we have to sell him.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Tricky one, that. I'd agree in principle, but in practice there's a risk involved in hanging on to a player who wants out (if indeed Xabi does).

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

What's the risk? He's a professional international footballer and it's a World Cup year - Xabi would have plenty of incentive for playing brilliantly even if he'd prefer to do it at Real. I'm also sure he'd love to win the league with us before he leaves.

Spot on that. We're not a charity. He'll have to suck it up, especially after all the crap he came out with recently about being settled here.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

That's all very well, but players aren't robots.  I'm not saying that things would definitely go wrong, far from it, BUT the risk is unquestionably there that Xabi (having already played one season further under a manager with whom he's widely said to be disenchanted) would find his motivation severely stretched by having to continue.  His head will tell him all about incentives.  His heart may or may not follow and, if it doesn't, not only his form but even the prospects for selling him on at a nice profit will take a big knock.

And yet, oddly enough, his form massively improved after he first became unsettled.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

That of course is true. My conjecture - and I fully accept that's what it is - would be that Xabi will find that harder rather than easier to keep up as time goes on, unless his relationship with Rafa is restored.

707 posts and I haven't contributed yet... Xabi is staying, enough of this already!

This summer is getting better by the day now, isn't it Anita?

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

We will not be out of the woods till he gets home from S.Africa and talks with Rafa, if he wants out theres not much we can do, there are Real players in camp with him, got to hope Torres is helping us out.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

"Liverpool valued him at 18million euros last year because he wasn’t an essential player. But he is now. They’ve given him more chances to play and he has responded magnificently."

Idiot. He's REALLY followed the situation closely. How much more often, when he wasn't injured, was Alonso 'rested' that season? Not that many. He didn't play as often because he was coming back from injury and not on top form.

You do realise that this being a "Xabi is staying day" you should be on a high.
Sounds like you might have confused bi-polar, which is even worse.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez
