as if Wilkshire or Ramsay have done more in their few ops as N'gog has. Just because he's not some 'highly rated Wenger' gem, people aren't high on him. He's gonna be, at worst, a solid 3rd striker.

someone store this thread away in a nice secure place and when the transfer window closes drag it up again and see if the figures we earn from sales is closer to my valuation of 13m or oncys' valuation of 22m.
i bet you 50 we earn more than 20m in sales *spits in hand*
seriously?! I'll take that bet...BUT...it can't include the sale of xabi. deal?
Go on then.
okay deal but 20 quid not 50 :-*
Stop changing the fucking rules man. Its gone from 'keep this to see whos closer me with 13 or oncy with 22' to 'well ok but not including Alonso' to 'ok but not 50'
stop fucking around.
You say we'll make under 15m i say over 20m right? No proviso's no exclusions FIFTY QUID. Right?
YIKES!! where'd all THAT anger come from? 50 is way to steep for my blood.

don't bring up hamann I said I rated him as a player but we needed someone with more mobility and lo and behold the attributes of our dedicated holding midfielder.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Sturridge is very good. I like N'Gog - said it from day 1- but I'd bin him off if we could sign Sturridge.

about 2, i think.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

He's got enough notable attributes, he quick, he's a good height and only young so will develop a stronger build too, and not a bad finisher either.

There are plenty of players who started off a little shaky like him and gone on to be good players.

Like I said, it's too early to tell, he could be another Diouf, but then again he could he another Henry.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Lerner on Barry

"Am I happy for him to wind down his current contract? That's his decision. If it means he is staying another year, I am absolutely happy," said Lerner.

"Even though Villa would lose £10 to £12m? Yes, absolutely. You are talking about a player who is an integral part of your potential success.

"That is in terms of playing more games, to winning competitions etc. That is similarly lucrative to a transfer fee this summer when you think about what you can achieve with a player like that.

"It is not like you forego the proceeds and you are getting nothing back."

The American, who took control of Villa in 2006, said he was also confident that manager O'Neill would remain at the Birmingham club for the foreseeable future, even though he continues to operate on a 12-month rolling contract.

Sturridge looks good from the few minutes I've seen of him. I'd take him too. If you look at Manure, their strength comes from many of their 'home grown' kids being solid contributors. O'Shea ... Brown ... Fletcher etc ... N'gog can be in that mould, nothing special but can contribute when called upon ...
p.s. it is too early yo write Ngog off.

No it isn't. He's not very good.
He scored a few goals in his debut season, mostly off the bench. As I said again, why spend 5-6 million on a 'lucas' when you have a solid youngster who can contribute. He may develop into something better but right now, he's a solid contributor.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Quite surprising that you want to get rid off N'Gog after 1 season Andy. He has had an okay season and showed glimpses of great potential. What has Sturridge done to that makes him so much more exciting? He hasn't made any inpact this season in a shite City side that has been haunted by injuries to first team strikers. All he's showed is that he's a knob, 70k a week to sign a new contract..

N'gog was head and shoulders over everyone else on the pitch not long ago in that U-21 match. That was against Englands so called best talent.

It would be foolish not to give him another year.

^^^^^^^^^^

And Anita, I like him but the 'next Henry' he won't be ... Unless we 'wish' hard enough.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Re: Asim & Brendan

I was merely using Henry and Diouf to illustrate the two polar ends of the scale, I realise he won't ever be as good as Henry.

Point is, he deserves another season. He hasn't featured much, and hasn't done *badly* when he has. He has been a smaller financial investment than Babel and Lucas, and yet right now he looks the most promising of the three.

If Lucas and Babel got at least two seasons, Ngog's done enough to warrent the same.

Edit: Wiz, I can't say I particularly like him, I just think we should give him a chance. He is only 20.
