the weird thing is that ferguson's statement makes it clear that rooney's decision basically came out of the blue, with no obvious catalyst such as personal problems or a fall-out with the manager, so the only conclusion is that it's purely about money. i just find that incredible. you're a multi-multi-millionaire, raking in what - £10m a year? - and your primary concern is still ekeing out every last bit of cash from your career at the expense of everything else, medals, loyalty, personal reputation: it's completely baffling. i could just about understand this in, say, fowler's day, when we were talking about £50k a week instead of £25k - i can see that that money would at least make a difference to his lifestlye, luxurious though it already was. but what's rooney going to get from £250k a week that he couldn't get from £150k a week?
£150k a week over 5 years is £39m. that sort of deal would still leave him with a fortune of around £100m when he retires, and yet you still hear people semi-justifying his behaviour in the media 'well, this could be last big contract - so he's got to make sure it's right!' why? wtf is he planning?! there's absolutely no justification for him to be prioritising money, he's a fucking disgrace.
