The Egyptian King

As much as he frustrates with his passing and his dribbling into defenders, I see no way how we can't give this man a new 2 year deal. It shouldn't even be a debate, yet somehow is.

Not interested in joining this wider discussion, but did want to say his development with his final ball has been insane in the second half of his Liverpool career, for lack of a better descriptor. I remember how annoyed we all used to get because 'Salah never passes', but now he's dishing out assists for fun, maybe he did just hate Mane afterall.
His eye for a defence splitting pace is insanely good. I’m guessing back then he felt he was competing with Mane. Nobody in the current attack is anywhere near him.

Only for morans. The club would be desperate for him to sign. Commercially he’s the most marketable player by miles. He’d be a huge loss.

The complete lack of progress on all three contracts is disappointing, especially given the quiet summer. Has Gordon signed a new deal yet? His future could well be linked to whatever happens with Salah.

How do you know this? No announcement doesn't mean lack of progress - in fact VvD said something completely to the contrary only last week.

Salah is great and we should extend his contract.

I still have my concerns about next season and how many games he’ll miss during a critical period over Christmas.

It’s not just the comp dates you have to consider - if it starts 21st December, players will be expected at least 2 weeks before that., so, based on this season, you could be looking anything up to 8 EPL games plus a CL game, FA Cup game and potentially QF of league cup.

I reckon that’s part of why a contract extension for Mo isn’t quite as straightforward as some people would like to make out.

Salah seems the ambitious type to me and bent on racking up records. Him disappearing into the anonymity of the Saudi league?, I doubt it - yet. Money is always a big motivator but the guy must be as rich as Croesus already.

Underrated absolutely. Hated I don't know about

Hatred is probably the wrong word, but I dont really know how to describe the reason that he gets labelled as a diver by the media and for some reason almost never gets a free kick. There is just something there against him that I don’t like.

The diver thing I think is a hangover from one or two incidents. When you've got that reputation you never shake it unfortunately. Also because he's a new fangled winger who inverts, a lot of old school pundits don't like him.

Saw Jimmy Bullard say the best ever winger that played in the premier league was Giggs, because he was a proper chalk on the boots style; outright dismissed hazard and similar as he cut in too much.

English media/older players hate the game changing, so any success out of a changing game often faces pushback for unrelated or unrealistic reasons

For me, Salah is the greatest winger this league has seen. Output and longevity to match is unparalleled.
He's objectively the best right forward. We've not been playing with right forwards for ages though. He's not an exceptional winger. It's odd, thinking about all the players who might have done worse or better in other eras, given their skill set. Same with what teams they were on.

He's also more comparable to a striker than not, in that for years now, he's the player with the least defensive or off the ball responsibility, and is most likely to have the ball at the end of any move.

In terms of actually being able to be better than him, in a similar position, for me it'd be Henry and Suarez. That's about it in our league, in my memory.

You can call it hatred if you like, by the way, but he is still clearly declining. I think we can get good production out of him all year. Not the way it's going so far though. Chiesa is not helping, and is looking like one of those cheap maybe it will work solutions for necessary backup, instead of having some ambition.
