The Champions' League music...

Honestly, so long as we invest a few bob in the summer, I'd be happy with the 'group of death'. We'd leave corpses strewn around the place. Utd fucking drew with Bayern FFS!

I really think we have to invest heavily in the squad in the summer. We have about 13 players who are as good as anything, but after that the quality drops dramatically. We've benefited from effectively only playing in one competition this season, but next season is a different matter entirely. I'd say we need about 6 or 7 players of first team quality to have another campaign in the league like we have this season.

It's not that bad.

Aspas is absolute muck. Many of the rest beyond the first XI are young players untested at a decent level. Then others are players - who aren't that young - who have played in the Premiership for a few years without impressing. We need a good group of players to come in.

Have said before a few times but reckon we need 4 quality additions - LB, CM, AM, Striker. Plus a new CB if we sell Agger. That would leave us fairly well covered in all positions.

Coates is still with us, he's on loan to Nacional trying to get his fitness back.

Yeah, I was exaggerating slightly with 6 or 7, but 4 or 5 isn't too far from the truth. Hopefully we'll get Konoplayanka or someone of that stature, a striker to take garbage's - sorry, I mean Aspas' - role in the squad, and a top left back. Oddly enough, I've changed my stance somewhat regarding a central midfielder, or a defensive midfielder. In January I thought it was imperative we bought one, and while I still think we need one, it's not as pressing an issue as it might have been before. But of course we'll need to add strength in depth in case of injuries and fatigue.

Reckon we will go big on an attacking midfielder this summer, a nice brand spanking new shiney one that scores and creates lots of goals.

A left back will be certainty and a left sided attacker very likely.

The teams ranked in pots 1&2 will be shitting them selves at playing us believe you me..

You are right. There is no team in Europe that would want us regardless of who they are. When we are in CL it goes without saying that tradition kicks in the team and the fans become joined. LFC is all about CL.

I wasn't saying it doesn't need improvement, but it's not as mega shit as I thought. We defo need a few new players. Aspas defo isn't good enough. Konoplyanka would be a goodun to add. But with Henderson and Allen improving so much this year and Gerrard playing well further back, we're not that short of midfield options that buying a good player would make any difference there. I'd only buy a central midfielder if he was one of the top players in the world. The defence is a strange one. All the players are good but we concede loads. Needs a better coach.

I wish they'd let losing Champions League teams opt out of going into the Europa League. That must be the worst European competition there's ever been, apart from Eurovision.

It's sad that the Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA cup, which were both ace in their own way, have been completed destroyed to create a ridiculous behemoth that no one wants to take part in.

A bit harsh. They got through the CL group phase. Won the league cup, got to the FA cup quarters, still in the league race.

Depends on what you mean by compete then. City, with their squad and money would have expected a major trophy or two, it looks like they may only end up with the League Cup. We could easily compete for top four and get through the group stage with the current squad, assuming we don't have a majorly bad run of injuries. Obviously another few players would help. But it wouldn't be the end of the world to get with the current squad into next year. Playing extra games won't mean we'll struggle in all competitions. We may just need to de-prioritise the League and FA Cup a little.

Yes. I think a simple cup competition, for cup winners, would still have some appeal, and at least it would have some logic to it.

Tbh I only ever remember the Cup Winners' Cup being pretty terrible, with a very unreliable standard due to the unpredictability of cup winners. Surely that would be even more the case now.

I think the two big problems with the Europa League are that it's far too big - it seems to take forever to get anywhere in it - and it has such a mix of standards. There are some really decent teams in it but they have to make their way through several layers of dross before they get to meet each other in the spring, by which point most have lost interest.

I would expand the CL to 64 teams by taking out the the good from the EL, and rebrand the EL as a minor competition for small teams fro smaller nations who would at least then have a reasonable chance of winning the thing. I'd then make the CL a straight knockout format, getting rid of any meaningless group matches. You'd lose 2 fixtures but hopefully the increased tension of the 2 new knockout rounds would largely compensate for that in terms of TV revenue. You could also insure teams against the possibility of being knocked out in the first round by splitting the revenue equally up to the second round, and only based on performance after that.

Strange comments - I remember a team winning the CL in 2005 that had a player called Djimi Traore, Igor Biscan and a host of other players - a squad consisting of very average players with possibly two world class players at the time. That team managed to come 5th in the PL that season, and also get to a League cup final.

Now despite saying that - I have very little confidence in Rodger's ability to direct the current team as it is in cup competitions.

If we were going out of the Champions league I'd rather enter Eurovision than the Europa League tbh.

I could'nt care who we have in a group to be honest they will shit themselves playing at Anfield on a european night anyway! I watched Bayern against the Scum and they aint that good we could beat them! Boateng's a fucking yard dog he would have nightmares coming up against Suarez and Studge. Dont know about Flanno up against Robben though...

From a selfish perspective I hope we do get a group of death as the atmosphere will be fucking mental next year at Anfield and it will be great to sample again...

Flanno would snap him within 2 minutes and Robben would then be injured.
