The Burnley match thread (Frogfish Free)

We need Fabs back. Will probably be Keita, Hendo and Fabinho.
Robertson in for Tsimikas.

McNeil was excellent in the first half, but pretty invincible in the 2nd.
Saved a Salah shot on the line though, the cunt.
It’ll be fabs, Hendo and the Spanish Lucas.

What's up with Ox, I heard one comment about his absese being due to personal reasons?

Trent MOTM??

Thought he was 1 of the poorer players tbh, did some nice stuff but defensively Mcneil had him more than a few times.

Tsimikas was better. Alisson MOTM for me.

I didn't watch the match but everyone I've spoken to, and practically everyone I've read disagree with you re Trent.

Our system doesn’t work without hard working midfielders. Tackling and recycling the ball. Nothing fancy. Naby was good at that today.

I'm not arguing with the logic, it's just that as far as I can remember before VVD and Allison arrived he was a record ever signing and I've never seen him do anything Igor Biscan couldn't

He did give the ball away on a couple of occassions in dangerous positions but we recovered without conceding, other than that he was superb.

I thought Elliott was great, but that's because I'm one of these idiots who thinks being visible, wanting the ball, being able to walk past defenders, pass and shoot, these are good little things to be able to do. I know that in the game that I don't understand, this cerebral thing that gets discussed in podcasts and in ten thousand letter essays these attributes are frowned upon, and what you need to be able to do to be be called great is be unnoticed and pass it backwards for ninety minutes, but as a football idiot I thought Elliott was the best midfielder on the park.

I missed the game again, but I saw the highlights.
So where do we stand against Chelsea?

Any worries?

Will we need Fabs?

Also, from the highlights it seemed like their winger, I forget his name, was terrorising ourt defence, any truth to that?

Didn’t Terrorise us but he was their best attacking outlet. Very good in close quarters. I wouldn’t mind us signing him at all.

I felt at time his movement and passing was even too quick for our lads especially Hendo. He was fucking brilliant. Pass and move to a tee.

Elliot already looks a step up on the other young players we have including Curtis Jones. He did give the ball away a few times but he's 18 years old plating his first few games for the club and he will have time to iron that out. I do have faith in Curtis Jones but the little that I've seen from Elliot he looks more gifted and mentally quicker in the attacking sense.

Don’t think there’s too much difference between Jones and Elliot as far as quality on the ball goes or even technique, but Harvey has a bit more oomph in his game….not scared to drive and try new things whereas Curtis tends to play within his own element. Interesting to see how use Klopp uses Curtis.

Very, very different players for me. Not to say you can’t compare how they’ve come in and impacted the team, but completely different roles

I think Keita was actually very solid - moved the ball well, rarely lost it and provided necessary coverage defensively.

Yeah but for 50 million plus, I expect a bit more. If that is going to be Keita's contribution in every game, we should have sold him and used the money to resign Gini. Gini was better at all those things and was less injured.

Yes that’s true. An expensive water carrier. He has more but who knows how to get it out of him

Elliott looks like a serious talent. Curtis is a decent and different kinda player, but Elliott is a cut above.

Game was a little faster than he expected and lost the ball a couple of times early in our defensive end, but he figured it out and problem solved.

Was very good, but Hendo and Naby provided a nice platform. He pressed well up top, but barely needed to track back after the first 15 minutes.

I only watched from 63 mins onwards and at that point it looked like we were all over them. However, after watching bits of the first half on MOTD, I am gathering that Burnly actually made a game of it in the first half. The problem I have with those cunts and other lesser teams is that Man City and Chelsea make short work of such teams. For fucking once I would love to see some spark of creativity from midfield and make playing such teams an easy affair. I know Klopp loves these worker midfielders but I am really fucking tired of this same old predictable formula. Can we not sign someone who can just do some unpredictable baller shit to create some easy shit chances and perhaps even score themselves ? I want a fucking world where we dont have to put in a big shift to beat shit like Burnly, and the other dross that should really be in the league below.

Nah, think we are easily forgetting how important Curtis was to us last season. For instance:
1) we were 1-1 against City, then Curtis goes off and we lose 1-4

2) we were beating leicester 1-0 and then curtis is taken off and we lose 3-1

3) klopp takes off Milner last season against West Ham, while we were struggling to score, puts on Curtis, who then within 2mins assists in the next goal we score.

Elliot looks brilliant but I think right now he lacks strength and is not as strong as Jones even though I think Elliot is a more team player. What I love about Curtis is that he has an unquestionable belief in his own abilities and confidence to go with it. Love seeing him play.

I was just talking about his performance yesterday.
I'm not judging his performance based on fee etc

Also, I know you @Rosco hate Frogfish, but seriously, we shouldn't be having threads that people can't access.

Not surprised by the thread title given who started it, but more surprised that men in their 30s and upwards behave like kids. But thats the mental capacity of said poster.
Its a fucking football forum.

There is no point in Keita. Keep on playing Elliot.
Elliot can not do the job Keita was doing and I don't see these two as being comparable. Keita is far more effective in midfield and defence whereas I loved Elliott's effectiveness in attack.

Yesterday : In every report I've read Keita has been praised for the work he did, except of course by those who would still berate him even if he were MotM in the CL final.
here's Keita's ratings from a wide variety of sources (e.g Sky, ESPN, Echo etc) : 8, 8, 7, 8, 8, 7, 8.5 and from Liverpool forums : 8, 7, 8, 8.5, 7. I gave him a 7 because I thought he could have been more creative.

The question is if all squad members are fit where do these players come in? For me Keita is more of a Thiago replacement (or even Hendo, though he's not a Fabs sub which Hendo can be) and Elliot more of an Ox. / Jones / Shaq. Keita and Elliott deserve to be their primary backups.

However I'd take Thiago over Keita and Elliott over those others, every day of the week. Clearly Fabs / Hendo / Thiago is our 'first team' midfield trio however.

Yes, but we still need that player in our team, doing that work. There is more to Keita too, but god knows when we will see it.
Right now, I'll just take him being able to play 10 games without getting injured.

I only saw the first half and would have taken Keita off after 20 minutes. Burnley had way too much space in midfield and were probably the better team until the first goal. Having a 3 man midfield when 2 of those men are 5'8" (at most); one of them (Keita) can't tackle and the other one is not exactly a hard tackler made our midfield look insignificant. Hendo was doing his best and Barnes was being very proactive going forward so Keita should have being replaced early.

Some ratings, giving Keita 7's and 8's would suggest to me that his 2nd half was faultess and inspiring because he gets a 4.5/10 from me for his first 45.
