The Burnley match thread (Frogfish Free)

I thought Elliott was great, but that's because I'm one of these idiots who thinks being visible, wanting the ball, being able to walk past defenders, pass and shoot, these are good little things to be able to do. I know that in the game that I don't understand, this cerebral thing that gets discussed in podcasts and in ten thousand letter essays these attributes are frowned upon, and what you need to be able to do to be be called great is be unnoticed and pass it backwards for ninety minutes, but as a football idiot I thought Elliott was the best midfielder on the park.
Haha

On Momo's favorite podcast a couple of weeks ago they were discussing Wijnaldum, and one of them said "many people didn't rate him & thought he added little to the team, but those of us who go to the match and understand football knew his value".

I liked Wijnaldum & I like Keita, but I despise that condescending football intelligentsia attitude.

Just watched the game. Don't understand the criticism towards Keita. If you think he played badly, Hendo was just as bad. I lost count of how many times he messed up in defence.
In MOTD Danny Murphy highlighted how well he played by showing some passes he made. I wonder if he even watched the game. He is not a defensive midfielder.
Matip was good, Van Dijk isn't back to his best yet but did OK.
Trent was great. Elliott impressed but, needs more time. Good goal by Mane but he was wasteful. Salah unlucky.

I told they’re arse licking twats.

Yes, but we still need that player in our team, doing that work. There is more to Keita too, but god knows when we will see it.
Right now, I'll just take him being able to play 10 games without getting injured.

True. Just expected so much more.

Henderson has earned his bones and is coming back from injury. Keita has been a total letdown

I told they’re arse licking twats.

That prick asking 'Afghanistan, what's all that about?' last week and the subsequent pile on when I called him out was quite telling. They're thick as fuck

Henderson isn't great but has grown into captaincy in a way I'd never have predicted, because he's got a set of balls. Maybe Keita should be given ten years too. I really fucking doubt it will make any difference. I don't fall apart when I see his name on the team sheet, I realise he offers something and he's not completely useless, but anyone saying he hasn't been a letdown is deluding themselves.

They have a cult following. The absolute ignorance of not knowing about Afghan after 20 years is shocking.

They’re a gang of turds that live in their mum’s basements.

I can't handle people who take pride in their ignorance. I mean ask questions about things you don't know about all day long, I do, but how can you not know about Afghanifuckinhstan?

Tsimikas vs. Burnley:

71 touches
9 crosses
6 duels won
6 ball recoveries
6 penalty area entries
4 chances created
3 tackles
3 clearances
1 assist

Trent vs. Burnley:

101 touches
12 crosses
9 ball recoveries
7 chances created
5 final third entries
3 clearances
2 tackles
2 big chances created
1 assist

Thanks!

Seems like things were a bit more even in the first half but second half we were dominant.

It's interesting watching the game condensed into highlights (which I never do). We created a fair few chances but a lot of them were quite difficult to convert. The way we play requires a high level of technical ability and not much tolerance for people being off their game. This is why Salah is pretty much invaluable to us.

OPTA

  • Liverpool have won each of their last seven Premier League games, as many victories as they enjoyed in their previous 20 games in the competition (D5 L8) and their longest winning streak in the league since a run of 18 ending in February 2020.
  • Liverpool have strung together four consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League for the first time since a run of seven between December 2019 and January 2020.
  • Since his debut for Liverpool in September 2020, Diogo Jota has netted 15 goals in all competitions for the Reds, a figure only Mohamed Salah (29) can better, while the Portuguese has posted the best minutes per goal rate of any player for the club in that time (127).

Keita created less, passed less, and passed less accurately than the other 2, and cunts giving him the same rating

71 touches
9 crosses
6 duels won
6 ball recoveries
6 penalty area entries

Played very well today.

It says Harvey 83% and Naby 84% unless I'm reading it wrong.

But I do agree Naby needs to be delivering a lot more... I want more dribbles, more advances in the box, more chances and key passes...not seeing it.

Apologies, percentage wise yes, keita passed more accurately than 18 year old premier League debutante Harvey Elliott

Does it matter if he's 18 or 35?

Pedri at Barca was smashing the stats at the Euro's over Koke.

When comparing whether a player is actually any good, I'd imagine a debutante usually should have worse figures than a seasoned pro who cost 50m

Maybe it shows how good Elliott is rather than how shit/average Naby is?

Elliott's value could skyrocket to that figure easily by Jan.

Are they only giving scores for the attacking contriburion? I’m guessing those that scored Keita high was because of the defensive side.

I only saw the first half and would have taken Keita off after 20 minutes. Burnley had way too much space in midfield and were probably the better team until the first goal. Having a 3 man midfield when 2 of those men are 5'8" (at most); one of them (Keita) can't tackle and the other one is not exactly a hard tackler made our midfield look insignificant. Hendo was doing his best and Barnes was being very proactive going forward so Keita should have being replaced early.

Some ratings, giving Keita 7's and 8's would suggest to me that his 2nd half was faultess and inspiring because he gets a 4.5/10 from me for his first 45.
He was the same second half. Beggars belief. Comfirmation bias rife

It's obvious that I'm a bit harsh on Hendo and I know that he wasn't playing in his natural position, but even if Hendo's stats looked better, he did get done a few times during the game. Especially before their disallowed goal, which was bordering on embarrassing for a defensive midfielder. Yeah, great distribution but that little highlight clip from MOTD wasn't exactly Alonso esque. It's the bare minimum imo.

Naby is at least now lasting over 80 minutes which is an improvement on previously I presume. Outside of Hendo and Fabinho, I don’t see any obvious starters against the Chavs.
Would start Naby ahead of anyone elss and just give him a run till he inevitably gets injured.

Not surprised by the thread title given who started it, but more surprised that men in their 30s and upwards behave like kids. But thats the mental capacity of said poster.
Its a fucking football forum.
Found the rat

how many starts has he made in the last 6 months? He’s hardly in the zone just yet

That's true, I know that he still isn't there yet, but saying that Hendo had a great game and highlighting his performance on MOTD was a bit too much. Trent did a whole lot better. Btw, why didn't Milner play?
