I think this may be the quietest transfer window ever so far.
I expect the pace will pick up now the internationals are done.

Id honestly be happy with JUST tevez or Silva as our only key signing. Id also like to look to lower league youths to supplement our squad and build an english core for the future.
Im talking about players like:
Kightly
Cox
Addison
Paterson
Naughton
Delph
Ledley
they might not make it but theyre all late teens early 20's so we should easily turn a profit if they dont.
Pipe dreams eh.
Seriously? Don't you think we've got enough young players who will probably never get near our first team?
No. I think we have to many Spanish, Hungarian, Serb, Italian, South American players who dont get near our team.
The rule changes are coming by hook or by crook. We need to be pro-active.

But surely the point of buying them all so young is that they qualify as British nationals anyway by the time they reach our first team?

Have you heard anything about a Lyon bid for Babel, Mark?
Oooh, that'd be good. Maybe we could part-ex him for Benzema?

*dreams*
I'd heard that Lyon have offered 9m euro for him - rejected - but they'll be back.

If true, it would suggest that Benzema might be on his way somewhere.

Well, Fergie won't want to lose both of them, so maybe Utd will be willing to do more to keep Tevez. He'll need at least one new front man anyway, why not go with someone they will feel has proven he works within their system. I reckon Tevez is a softy who just wants to be told he's loved, I'm sure Fergie could talk him round.

I can't imagine Utd fans will be too pleased with the prospect of losing them both either.

It was reported on Irish radio last night that Hleb was supposedly going to Lyon from Barca. Both he and Babel would play similar positions wouldn't they?

Either way if we were to get in the region of £10m for Ryan then it would be an acceptable return as his star isn't shining as brightly as it did when we bough him.

Apperently Fergie called Tevez and tried to convince him to stay, but wasn't successfull. I guess he stepped up the efforts after Ronaldo was on his way.

I think this may be the quietest transfer window ever so far.
I expect the pace will pick up now the internationals are done.

Id honestly be happy with JUST tevez or Silva as our only key signing. Id also like to look to lower league youths to supplement our squad and build an english core for the future.

they might not make it but theyre all late teens early 20's so we should easily turn a profit if they dont.
Admittedly i havnt seen a great deal of any of them, which was kinda my point. I said 'players like' these, precisely for that reason.
Im not a scout, my point is young top quality ENGLISH players. All the players i mentioned are highly rated and young, thats my criterea, obviously i would hope our scouts cut the wheat from the chaff and find the gems in there, im hardly likely to do that watching the league roundup on a sunday morning.
That said ive seen Kightly, naughton and ledley a few times and i like them all. Then again i thought bale and then Surman would be class out of southampton so whaddo i know.
My next southampton tip is llalana or however you spell it, he looks potential in spades.
YOUNG, ENGLISH, POTENTIAL. That is all.

Isn't Ledley from Wales? 😉

Well as much as it sounds like a decent policy, it won't get us anywhere. Spurs tried a similar thing a while back when they went shopping for the top english talent. They went for Dawson, Huddlestone, Robinson and Lennon plus others ive probably forgotten. It hasn't really got them very far although Lennon looks like hes finally getting his game together. Its took him a few years to get there and even now hes still far from the finished article.

We would probably just ruin players like Chelsea seem to have done with Scott Sinclair. That lad could have been every bit as good as Young at Villa but has lost his way with no regular football and seemingly low confidence.

Id rather we spent what little funds we have on improving the first team as Chelsea, Manc Utd and Arsenal are going to be very competitive next season.
Dawson is a first team regular (and on the england fringe) huddlestone is a decent squaddie (in comparison with Lucas) Robinson made them a 6m profit and Lennon is worth 20 times what they paid for him. And thats fucking Spurs. What about Lescott, Young, Jagielka, Foster, Baines etc.
Im not saying it should be rigid policy. Im saying our first team is pretty sound, instead of signing brouwer, pacheco, nemeth etc this year lets invest in some english talent so that when the rules change we dont JUST have Gerrard. (carra will be 35)

But surely the reason we started signing the Nemeths and Pachecos is that the English talent we signed before just wasn't very good? We have done what you're suggesting in recent seasons (Hobbs, Anderson, Hammill etc) and it hasn't worked out at all.

Plus, if you're talking about players who are already established first-teamers at lower-league clubs, they're going to cost a lot of money (being English comes at a premium) and we're probably going to ruin them anyway by giving them only reserve and Carling Cup games. What's the point?

Thats a similar response to the one i was going to make. No disrespect to all the players Herr listed originally but not one of them would come to this club and get regular first team football to develop. Naughton and Delph are lads i think have a decent future but coming here now would be a bad move for them.

As for Moyes and signing the likes of Jagielka, Baines and Lescott, they haven't come cheap. It would swallow up alot of our budget signing promising english youngsters in the hope they make it. Baines was a major fuck up on their behalf anyway. They had him as a young lad and let him go because they didn't think he was big enough. They then had to pay a fortune to sign him again.

Disagree. Whatever the background to the negotiations, both Tevez and Joorabchian have seemed well jacked off with the way ManUre have approached this whole business. IMO there was genuine doubt from quite an early stage about whether Tevez would stay there (and of course we don't actually know yet that he's going to). I can't help feeling it's been our evident interest in him which has pushed the Mancs, albeit kicking and screaming, into honouring their agreement over his fee.
