Isn't Ledley from Wales? 😉
Well as much as it sounds like a decent policy, it won't get us anywhere. Spurs tried a similar thing a while back when they went shopping for the top english talent. They went for Dawson, Huddlestone, Robinson and Lennon plus others ive probably forgotten. It hasn't really got them very far although Lennon looks like hes finally getting his game together. Its took him a few years to get there and even now hes still far from the finished article.
We would probably just ruin players like Chelsea seem to have done with Scott Sinclair. That lad could have been every bit as good as Young at Villa but has lost his way with no regular football and seemingly low confidence.
Id rather we spent what little funds we have on improving the first team as Chelsea, Manc Utd and Arsenal are going to be very competitive next season.
[/quote]Dawson is a first team regular (and on the england fringe) huddlestone is a decent squaddie (in comparison with Lucas) Robinson made them a 6m profit and Lennon is worth 20 times what they paid for him. And thats fucking Spurs. What about Lescott, Young, Jagielka, Foster, Baines etc.
Im not saying it should be rigid policy. Im saying our first team is pretty sound, instead of signing brouwer, pacheco, nemeth etc this year lets invest in some english talent so that when the rules change we dont JUST have Gerrard. (carra will be 35)

But surely the reason we started signing the Nemeths and Pachecos is that the English talent we signed before just wasn't very good? We have done what you're suggesting in recent seasons (Hobbs, Anderson, Hammill etc) and it hasn't worked out at all.
Plus, if you're talking about players who are already established first-teamers at lower-league clubs, they're going to cost a lot of money (being English comes at a premium) and we're probably going to ruin them anyway by giving them only reserve and Carling Cup games. What's the point?
