But that is the dilemma. Someone of Torres' quality won't want to tolerate being back-up for long. So out steps someone of Voronin's quality behind him, saying, 'Where I sign? Please? Where is pen?' It'll take incredible luck and hard work to land the right man. If by some freakish good fortune Tevez's disinclination to leave the country means he'll put up with playing no more often than he did for the mancs, well, it's probably our best chance.

He is. There was a spat. He got banned for a short period (I believe). He is re-incarnated.
Ironic really as you can't be canonised until you are deceased 😉

He would play far more often, because he will play in the wide left attacking position that Steptoe and Casper have been sharing this season. At United he was up against Ronaldo and Rooney, who are both capable of playing left, right or centrally, and there's nobody of their calibre in our squad.

And occasionally up front centrally with/ behind/ instead of Torres

He's pretty versatile is Tevez.

ah so.

St Ben is defo no no unless he wants Rafa dead.
Rafa4PM is not possible given the UK is half owned by the Mancs, Chavs, Gooners, Barcodes etc

So he should call himself Rafa4ever

Canonised. That reminds me of the circus artiste who died after being shot out of a cannon. The circus owner said it would be hard to find someone else of his caliber.

I'd certainly rather see tevez arrive than silva who is actually a left winger/midfielder.
the more I think about it the more I hope it happens. two players (tevez and kuyt) on both flanks with drive, desire and industry not to mention both (usually) know where the goal is.

if torres' gets fucked

Me too.

That's pretty tasty, and full of goal threat (assuming Tevez starts scoring more regularly when played all season!)

Issues are that neither Kuyt nor Tevez are actually "wingers" (I know it isn't strictly a winger role, but you know what I mean), and neither is really pacy.

Still, it looks OK to me.

However for Tevez he knows that if he does sign for us then he WILL play a lot more pitch minutes than at OT. He would fit into wide left, AM and striker so will get a lot more game time for us than at United where he has strong competition in every one of those positions.

Are you insinuating that Sheiky murdered Raf4PM 😱

I am still fourious that the last argentinian international Fergie blocked the transfer from OT to Anfield for slipped through our hands.... 8)

Did Keano score more for Liverpool this PL than Tevez scored for United?

That front 4 would never have it held against them for not trying. I suspect that it wouldn't be too shabby on the goal scoring front either.

I know he's versatile. But he was moaning as early as last October about being used as a utility player and not being given enough of a run as a straight striker. So I think you're all being wildly optimistic thinking he'll relish playing hither and thither with a world cup coming up. I'm not saying I don't want him, I'm just saying you're looking at it with uncharacteristically rose-tinted specs.

Tevez's goalscoring ... He seems to go hot/cold - but you can tell he can score 10+ goals a season ... It's just you'd want more I guess ... Oh well, I'm all for signing him.

Where does he play for the Argies Macca? Is it as an out and out striker?

I dont think for one moment that Tevez will come because

1) The Mancs will not allow it. They will rather spit out the cash and not play him (which they can afford) than to have us buy him.
2) We cannot afford a 20+ million player.

[/quote]

How have you come to these daft conclusions? Facts please.

I think Tevez's main gripe was that he wasn't starting matches and was usually one of the first to be pulled (hello Keano !). However that clearly wouldn't be the case here.

If Tevez does come and does line up in the left sided role the the full backs have a job on of getting forward to provide width and support.

Nope, but that's what he said he wanted to be in order to regain his goalscoring ability, which he felt had been blunted since his move to the mancs.

Again, it's amazing, on this solitary matter, everyone seems to know how Benitez would treat him, playing him most matches and keeping him happy. Bizarre. Everywhere else Benitez is a capricious stubborn manager who can't be relied on in such a way.

Absolutely. One of my concerns, however, is that Kuyt and Tevez are alike in many ways, and I don't really like really similar players in the same team, especially in those positions.

Oh well.

Tevez's goal scoring record in the EPL is 29 - 7 for West Ham and 98 - 24 for United. 0.244 average is just that, average for a forward. However he does bring a lot more to the game than just goals. Which is just as well 😉

Well, we'd have to at least place some trust in the manager that if he spent over£20m on a player, he would have some clue about where he wanted to play him, and also trust him enough to give him plenty of games.

*ahem*

I don't like Tevez out wide left in that 433 thing at all. There, I've said it.

In my opinion, and probably in his, he's a striker, not a winger. Kuyt does it cos he does anything Rafa says. The formation is not 3x striker upfront of 3x midfielders, it's actually 3x midfielders, two 'wing-forwards' and a striker. Making strikers into wingers is a bad idea.

I think Rafa would have a much easier job convincing Tevez to play every week in a 442 with his little pebbles, than he would converting him into a left wing-forward. I think he's played out there for the scum just to get a game, not out of choice.

Would we like to play Torres as left wing-forward? Would he like it?

Well I suppose it's because he fits into so many of our holes a la Kuyt (no clever sexually oriented responses required thank you) that you could easily see this being the case.

Yeah thats one of the only aspects about it that worries me.

Everyone is trying to guess who's going to be sold and how much we actually have to spend, but I'd like to hope that we will have enough money to still sign Silva as well.

I think it all comes back to wether we choose to sell Xabi or not.
