we head into the summer expecting the likes of tevez and silva but the reality is we'll end the summer with the likes of johnson and downing.

I'd rather have young than tevez, he has more pace, is younger and he is English which will help with the quota.

He's also a left wing forward (ie. what we need).

Apart from when we bought players like Torres, Keane, Masher and Alonso

Even then people were saying how we should have signed Darren Bent instead!

Tevez would win over every Liverpool fan out there within his first four games.

and no-one said that about Keane?

Uh, well I never thought that. I knew Keane was a disaster signing from the off.

Casting aside the United connections, what's the difference between the players, Anita?

I know they're not exactly the same but I don't understand your polar opposite views on these players.

I think Tevez is a better footballer than Keane, his speed and movement off the ball means he is more versatile along the front line, I understand people's concerns about him bot having played on the left much for Utd, but he has for Argentina, and I'm therefore confident that he can for us too. Tevez can also lead the line when necessary; Keane couldn't. Tevez is also younger, so better value for a £20mill ish piece tag. Plus he has much more fight and heart than Robbie Keane, who would rather bitch and moan at others if he messes up.

Bottom line, Tevez could and would fit into our existing set up, it was clear that Keane never would, and it blew my mind at the time as to why people couldn't see that.

Disagree the last bit. At that stage Stevie wasn't a regular in the role just behind Torres, and Keane would have been an excellent choice for that role had things worked out for him at LFC. I didn't particularly want us to sign him, but that was more because I felt we were being grotesquely overcharged for a player of his age.

That's not true.

The tail end of last season was when we first started playing Stevie in that role, and as a result it was the best football we'd played under Rafa. It was clear that the team needed to be built around the strength of that Torres/Gerrard partnership going into the summer.
Didnt Keane score more goals for us in the league in 5 months than Tevez has all season for the enemy?

I don't agree, and the key to why not is in your own post - "tail end", "first started". In other words, Stevie wasn't yet - as I said - a regular in that role. There was still a case then for looking for someone else to play there, as opposed to now, when the partnership is so well established that I wouldn't contemplate breaking it up except in case of emergency.

Hmm. Me neither. Given certain comments in interviews, though, I'm not sure Rafa feels the same.

Maybe he did Oncy, but I know who's all round play is better.

reports from other papers say our not-so-favourite paper is saying that Spurs have lodged an £18m bid for Tevez, but been "blown out of the water" by a meet the asking price bid by Liverpool of £25m and £160k a week over three years a £50m deal.

Hahaha, if true Rafa really does want to hump Slur Alex.

Benitez not being quoted as wanting Tevez is not an indication that he doesn't.

Perhaps he's learned from last year's Keane/ Barry debacles that sometimes public declarations of interest in other clubs' players is not always wise

Stop wasting the fucking time signing Tevez for 28mil. We can get Eto'o for less than that amount.
So you want to change our formation to a 4-4-2 and lessen Gerrard's influence as he's even more dangerous in the 4-2-3-1?

I agree, but I'm just wondering if he has said anything. Not like Rafa to fail to drop a few crumbs.

I think Eto'o is a great player, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
We are best concentrating on a realistic, attainable option rather than a maybe, that every other top European club will get involved in a bidding war for. Is there firm evidence that Eto'o will leave Barca?
Tevez it would seem is narrowed down to two or three options, with us being in the pound seats.
Let's get in, get it done, rather than yet another protracted transfer.
Tevez is three years younger than Eto'o and that three years is very significant in terms of value, and longevity.

btw vlad, those contract details can't be true at all - he's not going to get a contract that will see him earning more than stevie g or torres.

Bloody hell, if we got that much money to spend on a single player ... go out and get Benzema or Villa instead.
