It's frustration KHL, you are ridiculously tainted when it comes to this subject. Skrtel has cost us a few goals this season? When? Agger fell over and injured himself for Spurs' goal, he gave away the freekick that everyone thought Drogba had scored yesterday, Skrtel gave away the freekick for the header. It happens, their defenders, they have to make challenges and by and large win more than they lose, but they're not supermen. No defender is infallible, even 'Super' Daniel Agger.
And you guys are not?

For what ever reason a few of you often come across every bit as tainted as I am when Skrtel's beeing discussed. Or for that matter Agger. Perhaps you can't/won't see it but that's pretty obvious to me at least.

The only poster bashing one player on behalf on another in this thread is Oncy, and he's from the Skrtel-camp if you like. Doesn't that fuck you off too then?

For the record I don't believe Agger is infallible at all. But this thread was about Skrtel, no?

I think both are terrific. My ONLY frustration with Agger is his fitness issues. If ALL our defenders were fit Agger would be the first name on my teamsheet. But I dont need to besmirtch Skrtel to explain why.

Is he knocking Agger to add weight to his appraisal of Skrtel? Does he need to?

You promoted Skrtel saying someething along the line of He's out Agger'd Agger, whatever that means. Just saying like you brought Agger in to the equation and I responded as I don't think he's had a better Season so far than Agger. It's a matter of opinion and I'm finding it hard to believe that has got anything to do with my nationality. Unless of course everyone else on here shares your point of view then I'll stand very much corrected.

And as already said I hope Skrtel proves me wrong for a prolonged period of time. He's been as good as I've seen him over the past few games, long may that continue.

ALL HAIL SKRTEL!

I'm willing to change my overall opinion on Skrtel based on his performance level. He's never lacked anything when it comes to show of heart and willingness to do well.

As for now I believe he's merited a starting spot, as he's been very good in his past few games. Not looking rash and generally looked much more in balance. Whether he'll be dropped for Citeh remains to be seen but it's obvious that Kenny's got a bit of a selection headache here. Untill Agger get's injured again at least.*

*HOPE NOT!

He's the only CB I know of (in the Prem certainly) who has always bested Drogba at the physical stuff.
This.

Remember that CL where he went off injured at half time and drogba absolutely tore us apart after his departure ?

I think it'd be nigh on impossible to criticise his performance yesterday. In fact bar one or two moments like the chelsea goal the whole backline was pretty nifty. Enrique, glenjo,Agger,Skrtel its a relatively young & experienced backline.

Nice work.

Ok.

Agger has been our best CB this season despite his little injury lay-off and Skrtel has done well lately.

So does anyone think Carragher was in fact holding Skrtels hand in games or was that a myth? Is Srktel benefitting from Carragher not in the side and doing his own thing or is that a non starter?

I was under the impression Carragher guided Skrtel through games and did a lot of baby sitting throughout the 90 mins. Was I being unfair on Skrtel or does anyone buy into that assumption?

i think the 2 voices of carra and reina stop skrtel playing his natural game. With agger next to him (someone less vocal) he can feel comfortable in his ability.

Skrts is a beast and shouldn't be dropped

That's what I alluded to in my original post Fabio. Carragher and Reina are both very vocal in organizing the defense. Pepe has said in his book that he often has blazing rows with Jamie over tactics. For example, when to kick long or pass it out of defense.

Perhaps there is something in that.

very true

Skrtel and Agger have been very good together. Id like our centre backs to add a bit more of a threat offensively from set pieces, but that is obviously a minor criticism. Enrique as well has been excellent this season.

oh don't worry i know you were saying that. Were singing from the same hymn sheet. As i said earlier i said something last month i think in similar vein and someone thought it was interesting

think it was in MOTM thread so it was overlooked.

I think skrtel and agger, when given time to bed in together, can be incredible. Pace. Power. Aerial dominance. They theoretically should have it all. I'm excited for that partnership, yet concerned for the development of coates

Fair point, but I'm optimistic about the outcome. Coates will get his chance at some stage, through injury if for no other reason (most probably to Dan Dan the porcelain man), and the competition will be good for all three of them.

my only major worry (and its so pathetically minute its barely worth mentioning) is that Coates isn't the paciest, so i hope his reading of the game is good enough, otherwise we could end up with Skrtel being a mixed bag again

providing this patch he's in now is class, and not form.
