Alexander III of Macedon (356–323 BC), popularly known as Alexander the Great (Greek: ????? ??????????, Mégas Aléxandros), was a Greek king (basileus) of Macedon.
Err clearly you have no idea about the macedonian/greek history. so like i said before dont try to "think" you know it when you dont 🙂 he was macedonian, end of
thats from wikipedia. they also state that his city of birth is in modern day Greece. So...
He was born in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia. Now in modern day Greece.
Yes, thats true. But you see he wasnt born a few years ago he was born back in the days when it was macedonian before the greeks took it from us. Hence he was born in Pella,Macedonia.. and died knowing he was a macedonian. Not to mention all the greeks he killed and how he invaded greece. So point is, he is macedonian and not greek 😉
He clearly re-invented himself into a Greek though; Macedonian culture under his rule was pretty much a Greek imittion.

He regarded Macedonia as 'nouveau Greece' I guess. 8)
He re-invented himself more than once. By the time he died he was acting more Persian than anything, and his Macedonian soldiers didn't much like that either.
OK, he's Macedonian. I'll take your word for it. But it's not uncommon that different country's try to claim prominent people.
BTW your namesake Zlatan Ibrahimovic is claimed by the Bosnians even though he's born in Sweden and represents us at a national level.
My real names actually ZLATE but yeah i know what your talking about. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was born to a Bosnian Father and a Croatian Mother so he could'v choosen to play for either 1 of bosnia, croatia or sweden. Point is Alexander the great was born in Macedonia to Macedonian parents, so no1 else can claim him as their own as they would be living a lie. So its kind of abit different to the ibrahimovic situation

Chill, zlatan 8)

Noone's saying he wasn't Macedonian; just saying that one reason why so many people think he's Greek is because that's the precise image he gave..as a protector of Greek civilization..

All good, it makes no difference to me as that happened over 2000 years ago but just wanted to make clear he was Macedonian as i love my country and dont like the greeks trying to make it out like he is theirs when he clearly wasnt.

Yes, Zlatan..I knew he was Macedonian.

But if you'd read those same history books you'd know what Jules and me are talking about.

Under his rule, Macedonia was a virtual standard-bearer of Greek civilization.

And he did borrow many elements of most civilizations he conquered. He did burn Persepolis down, supposedly in retaliation for the burning of Athens (by Xerxes I think), but Jules is perfectly right..he did adopt many elements of Persian culture into his own life.
Ive read many books on it, and heard many stories about it from the older people. So ive dealt with this shit my whole life, point is just because he adopts another culture doesnt mean he is suddenly persian or greek etc. Im just stating the fact and that was the he was born as a Macedonian and died a Macedonian
'TIRED man! Tired of dealing with this Alaxander the great was Greek shit' *sucks teeth* 'All my life......sheeeeeeiiit'

Very good run down the right from Kelly and a fine cross. Super sidefoot finish there from N'gog. He's found his level here. He'd be a superstar in the 14th best league in Europe.
That doesn't say much about England's u21s considering how pathetic he made them look!
Huh? What? Relax, you've gone off your nut.
You probably missed that game but Ngog was phenomenal against the English u21s ... Embarrassed them ... Just mentioning as that's the level of yoru u21s (around the level of the 14th best league in Europe).
Has anyone got a link to the highlights of that anywhere?

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva hoping to hold on to captain's armband
Brazilian proud to fulfil role against Rabotnicki...
By Matt Monaghan
30 Jul 2010 14:57:00

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is hopeful he will be able to hold on to the captain's armband when the club's established stars return to first team action.

Lucas, 23, led Roy Hodgson's side in last night's 2-0 Europa League qualifying victory against FK Rabotnicki. The Brazil international was handed the honour after stalwarts Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher continued to get back to full fitness after only returning to training recently after their World Cup 2010 exertions.

Speaking to the Press Association, Lucas revealed he was keen to stay as skipper in the coming weeks.

"It is a really good achievement for me. I am really proud, really happy, but the most important thing was the win," Lucas noted.

"I know there are a lot of senior players in front of me but I hope I did a really good job and hopefully I will keep it. We are really pleased. It is our first win of the season and it was an important game.

"We got two away goals against a difficult team, so we have started the right way. Hopefully we will keep the same for the next match."

I'm trying to find a way of interpreting his comments in a different way to the person who wrote the headline but I'm struggling.

Shirley he can't be sewious?

Guess who's getting a slap when Gerrard and Carra sees him?
I reckon Carra will sit on his chest with his knees on his arms so he can't move (his tiny pidgin legs trying to kick Carra in the back to remove him, carra laughing maniacally) whilst Gerrard drinks a pint of pure orange and eats a mars bar to get really good spit strings hanging down as far as Lucas nose before schlooping them back up in his mouth as carra says 'that were a boss one that captain stevie lar, get the next one to touch his eyeball'

In the corner the Greek nods approvingly.

Wow, I'm nowhere near Brendan on the Lucas hate scale, but that's remarkable.

Lucas thinks he's awesome. I thought he lacked confidence but clearly not, he thinks he's fantastic. He must be on RAWK, that's the only explanation.

Surely he just means for some of the upcoming friendlies where the senior players like Gerrard aren't guaranteed to start. Surely?
