Not if a doctor is hitting their knee with a hammer designed for the purpose Neil like a big chicken leg banging on the table of a hungry viking with a broken drumkit.

in all seriousness though, if nesv fuck roy off and the next guy is as bad (ha ha its possible) nesv would have backed themselves into a corner and anfield will become a revolving door of managers. they'll wait till the summer. 5 months of turdig fucking shite will fly by, it will be summer before you know it.
Unlike most people on here, NESV realise where the biggest problem is in the club. The main reason we were shit last season is the same as the reason we're shit this season, the squad. Since Rafa built that squad he had to go.

NESV know that appointing another manager right now is a waste of time and money, since the rabid Geordie-like fanbase we've developed in the last few years will be calling for his head in 6 months time when this squad is still shit.
There is some wisdom in what you say Rosco, but there is no justification for results such as Utrecht, Northampton, Wigan, Blackpool etc. That isnt a shit squad, its shit management.
It isnt a shit squad that sent Alberto to Turin and signed Poulsen.
I know you are entrenched in that opinion now and are going to ride it out regardless, but if you HONESTLY think that Roy isnt part of the problem and that a.n.other manager (v-neck, sexy, young etc) couldnt get better results than this hapless wizened old twat, you are (and please dont take this the wrong way) a fucking mental case.

I think there are two reasons they haven't pulled the trigger

a) they don't want to be percieved as knee jerk

b) they want time to secure the right manager

I think the quality of the squad as bugger all with them not sacking roy, yet. simple fact is we don't have the 9th worst sqaud in the league so roy is underacieving. their words, 'this is unacceptable' and given the strength of our squad it is unacceptable.

I never said he isn't part of the problem. Just not the biggest part - which is the shit squad and high wage bill.
I'd rather see him sacked when we have the wage bill lowered and the dross cleared out of the squad so the new V-neck wearing handsome manager has some decent young players and money to work with.

We won't have any success until that's done and rebuilding begins.

I said it last summer but for the sake of completion I might as well again, as long as we keep adding piecemeal to a fundamentally flawed squad we'll struggle for CL qualification and essentially waste a few more years kidding ourselves we're going places.

If we go nuclear, we could be shit for another 18 months or so and I'm willing to accept that. Because if we can gain some financial flexibility prior to the onset of the UEFA financial rules we'll be at a massive advantage when players become available, and a lot of big clubs around Europe will have to shed a lot more from the wage bill in order to fall in line with the rules.

a competent manager would have comfortably as least 6th and given our sqaud compared to the rest of the league that's fair. are you saying that we have a worse squad than say n'castle? is the answer is no then what are we doing below them?

I am all for patience and understanding and i dont expect to be top 4 and beating United and Arsenal and even Spurs and City etc but i do not accept being behind Stoke, West Brom, Newcastle, Bolton etc at Christmas time as a fair reflection on what our squad is worth.
Im happy to give a Frank, Roberto, Unai etc a proper project length of time to get this shit right, but not fucking sadsack.

I could be a real smart arse and just copy and past your excuses for Rafa in this reply but I won't (net spend, ONE BAD SEASON etc etc)

We could finish sixth, great. I'd rather blow this shit up and try to finish first than hobble on and finish sixth year after after year cos nobody has the balls to tear apart this squad. We're supposed to be all about winning, we can't do that with what we've got in the squad.

We CANNOT allow this guy to be responsible for the rebuilding of our squad Ross.

He's not going to be responsible for rebuilding, Commoli will be. Is it not as clear as day that his role has already been minimised ? The medical staff have more of a say on who plays.

I don't actually understand why people get so hot and bothered - even Spidey who has been vehement in his opposition to Roy (despite him telling his fullbacks to get forward) admits we could only get sixth with another manager. So we're only marginally more shit on account of Roy.

He'll be gone when the time is right.

Im sorry but I still dont get this.

Is Comolli going to start rebuilding a squad with a dead manager walking?

How does a new manager come in in the summer to work with a squad that he had no hand act or part in assembling?

Or does the rebuilding not start until the new manager comes in? If that is the case then I say the sooner it happens the better. Like January

Ross is spot on about the state of things at the moment. His posts in this thread should be read and then read again.

well, maybe you could help me out here, because i almost always completely disagree with him. what part of what he says makes so much sense to you?

for a start, i can't for the life of me see how he makes such a big deal of the wages situation. i've compared the figures for our closest competitors up until 2007/08 (don't have later years) and ours are entirely comparable in terms of wages as a percentage of turnover. only spurs look to be much more soundly run, but then they were much less successful up until 2009 (just after abolishing the director of football role, incidentally). time will tell if they manage to sustain the gap on their competitors in the long run, with champions league quality players like bale and modric no doubt currently being vastly underpaid.

Every new manager comes in to work with a squad he had no part in assembling. Nobody knows how it will pan out, or even if it will but for me the ideal situation would be that in January we sell people off, freeing up wage bill space and earning money to be used for transfers in the summer. We probably finish 12th, the mewling masses get to call Roy the worst manager ever and can call for his head. NESV can pretend they're listening and fire Roy but the new manager is identified and ready to come right at the end of the season. To be involved with the rebuild.

I agree that every new manager comes in to work with a squad the he had no part in assembling. But what is the first thing he does? He unassembles it and brings in his own players.

The idea that Comolli should have spent the last six weeks and the next six months identifying/signing players for a new manager to start working with next summer just doesnt add up for me. Or are we paying Comolli to do nothing until next summer?

I certainly agree with the idea of selling players in January and freeing up wages/transfer funds, but I feel that the new manager should be here by then to start rebuilding. This gives him time to put his stamp on the squad in time for next season.

Redknapp did alright though. So, it can be done.

I'd rather get Kenny in there as caretaker for 6 months, and then get a new manager after the season. Roy must go.

Yeah, Ross is spot on.

To sum up:

It doesn't matter who the manager of LFC is, because they're irrelevant and don't make any difference.
NESV are boss, despite having done fuck all so far.
We can all relax because Damian Commoli is going to be solely responsible for rebuilding our squad.

Can't see much wrong with any of that.

the reason why my rafa excuses were fair and why I had patience with rafa is rafa has been PROVEN to be successful roy has not.

roy has been mediocre in the past - we are currently in a mediocre position

roy has been rubbish away in the past - we are currently rubbish away

the rafa comparisons don't hold water I'm afraid.
the bottom line is we don't have the 9th worst sqaud in the league. roy's tactics are fucking SHITE, he doesn't know what the fuck he is doing and there is NOTHING (NOTHING!!!) in his past to suggest he'll improve given time.

I accept we shouldn't be in the top 4, I don't accept we should be 9th

to ros;
if managers aren't important if the squad is poor then explain how bolton (amongst others) are above us?

is it?

a) our manager is spectacually shit and cannot get his (admitedly poor) squad performing better than bolton's even worse squad?

b) bolton's manager is able to get more out of their poor squad whilst our manager cannot?

which is it, ros?

Hodgson whilst commenting on Torres not playing:

""But if he'd just played the 45 minutes with the way Utrecht were playing today, moving the ball across the back, it would have been a complete waste of time for everybody."

Righhht, so it was up to THEM to give us the ball so we could attack them.

Holy fuck.

I'm not unhappy that Torres didn't play. There was no point in risking him in a game of no importance. He's injured enough as it is.
