Team for Arsenal

The White Bib theory has it that the team is the same as Herr Oncearead's team with Maxi instead of Riera.

Or, put another way, same as Saturday with Skrtel replacing Kyrgiakos.

That would destroy skullflower's theory about Riera being rested for the Arsenal match.
Christ I really hope Rafa gets the bullet in (early) summer. I want to see this squad added too and built on, not dismantled and....re.....mantled.
I know Rafa will fucking etch-a-sketch this motherfucker in summer and it's going to put us back years.

In the dream scenario of new ownership, £100m plus sales to spend and Mourinho, I'd be quite happy to see this team dismantled to an extent.

First-team keepers:

Reina, Carra, Magic, Gerrard, Masher, Torres, Kuyt, Agger

Squaddies:

Riera, Maxi, Casper, Skittles.

Sell the rest.

Buy a LB, a striker, a winger and a midfielder for £100m total.

Use sales to get in some better quality squad players.
Ha sorry mate, nothing really. I just watched Albert and Alberto running up and down the line in front of me for an hour on Satday and was just thinking to myself that Rafa doesn't fancy them and they'll be off in summer, just another fucking failed cog in a massive useless machine.
They havnt got a prayer at anfield under Rafa.

12 players deemed good enough to stay, four of whom are deemed as squad players. that really is quite depressing considering the amount of money spent in the last five years. .

So Kuyt stays now does he?

In your 'dream world 100M to spend' scenario from 2 weeks ago, he was to be sold.

And you give Oncy shit for flip-flopping.

Kuyt Aqua Masch Riera

Aqua has been ruled out mate. Lucas will come in. Apart from that i'd be surprised if that wasn't the team.

Yeah, probably.

How come he was ruled out?
He's ill.

It's disappointing but i don't think he would have started anyway.

Who's to say he wouldn't have mae an impact coming on 2d half though 🙁

Yeah I am kinda, but for various reasons I doubt his presence would have made much of a difference. He probably wouldn't even have got on anyway.

I'm interested as to what kind of fan you are of Aqua given those statements, mate.

Also, why do you think he wouldn't have gotten on - unless statement one is the answer?

It's hard to be much of a fan mate. He's not down an awful lot, has been plagued with injuries, and it's difficult to see what he can offer based on his limited gametime so far. I'm a fan of his ability though, cos he's got plenty. He could be a cracking player in the future who knows.

As for the Arsenal game, well I went through a variety of reasons yesterday why he (even if fit) was unlikely to play. Gerrard and Masher are agiven, which leaves him in competition with Lucas really. And for this game, Lucas is the better option, for a variety of reasons.

Not that I don't think Lucas does a good job and often does it with little or no attention but I would have thought if ever a game suited Aquilani it was Arsenal. It's not the blood and thunder of other teams and he could well provide the creative spark to open up Arsenal.

Lucas would provide more protection but I think Wengers men are low on confidence right now - going at them is the way to destroy them IMO.

Not sure about that. Chelsea beat them with 30% possession. Defending well, hitting them on the counter, and bothering their goalie with good set-pieces is the way to beat them imo.

We can't hit on the counter though. We've got no pace.

And to be fair, it would be nice with someone in there who has an eye for a pass. I know we've got Gerrard, but the more options on that score, the better. It'll be good to be compact and prevent them gaining space, but it'd also be good if we had a couple of players who will retain possession and play the killer ball.

Another big worry is us being hit on the break down the channels with Arsenal then playing balls across the box, which we then often struggle with. If Carra or Insua are skinned we can be left wide open and stretched. The main concern is we'll inevitably sit back and invite pressure, which is a dangerous game when you haven't got the players to continually worry them on the break.

I fully expect us to lose with no Torres. The only thing giving me some encouragement is Gerrard's improving form. As has already been said, Arsenal are simply a team that is well suited to beat us, and they'll be desperate for a result with some justified confidence that they are set up to get it.

Our full backs are a massive concern. Insua likes to advance but will be raped for pace, and Carragher is a lot better positionally, but there's a reason he doesn't want to play there any more. Wenger isn't anywhere as naive as Moyes, and he's got the tools to go after us.

We need to be quite physical. Don't like it up em, and all that.
