Ok the way I see it is like this.

Rog made a joke. In your opinion you found it offensive. Which nobody can argue with as its up to you what you do or do not find offensive. The whole debate on whether you are to
"thin skinned" or "its an Internet forum" is for another day. The bottom line is you were offended.

However you cannot (and I can't believe some people in this thread said you can) say it was racist.

There are strict rules defying what being racist is, as Ross has pointed out, so just because you or anyone else for that matter think it is racist, it doesn't make it so. Yes you can feel it was offensive. And your entitled to feel it was racist if you want. But you feeling it doesn't make it so.

There are courts and laws that decide what is and is not racist.

From time to time i have offended a poster or two and when that has been made apparant to me i have apologised.
In addition, i have often told a poster to pack it in if they are winding another poster up. I try to be fair and even handed in all my dealings on here, and would only ask that other posters do the same and treat their fellow posters with a smidge of respect.

Yes people get offended by the funniest things, and i think people by now know me well enough to know that i dont get offended by anything at all, i never have, it just doesnt bother me. I dont find the original statement very condescending (incidentally the arguement that is raging between Rosco and Foureyes has nothing to do with the original statement, but more to do with the definitions of Racism) and i am quite suprised that a poster as laid back as foureyes took offence to it (especially given the source) but.. as has been said by him a million times with no one seemingly listening, he doesnt really care about it all that much anymore, he wanted to tell Rog that he knew what he was up to (or felt he was) and would have left it at that, but a myriad of people have rounded on him without ANY justification in my opinion.

I'll give you an example of what i am talking about here:
Peter (and probably Michael) is offended STRONGLY by the word Mong. Now to me that seems fucking daft, or at least it did untill i got to know him and understand why he feels so strongly about it.
I'm not going to lie and say that it now holds that brevity with me, as it doesnt, but i have on more than one occasion asked a poster to remove a post with that word in it, you know why? Cos its the right fucking thing to do.

Now this is basically the same situation, Foureyes is offended by something innoffensive in my/your eyes, but that doesnt or at least shouldnt lessen the way he feels about it, or be swept under the carpet by all insundry. I havnt lived Peters life, i dont know how it must feel, and the same applies to Foureyes here.

Now Rosco to his credit is trying to explain to foureyes that although he may feel hurt and abused by this slur, it isnt racist, and he's right it isnt. But that isnt the issue. The issue is that someone felt offended and not only was no quick apology forthcoming, worse and nastier Jibes followed.
And what has happened since is one of the saddest things i think i have ever witnessed on this site.

Ultimately i can see both sides, and i think Roger is right in that Foureyes should let it go, but lets say that it was Peter in the same situation, would posters such as yourself and Paddy be whoopin and a hollerin everytime Rosco makes a point counter to the original argument that the word Mong is offensive? No you fucking would not.

Like it or not something said on this forum that i feel i have an obligation towards has upset a poster, and i will always.....would always hope that the moral good in us all would come to the fore in such times. Rog would have said 'Im sorry it was a dumb thing to say' and Rosco and Foureyes would have continued their debate about what is racist and what isnt.

And i wouldnt be left with such an unsavoury taste in my mouth.

Very little is ever said. That was my point.

My own opinion on offensive comments is very simple.

If it is a friend or someone that I know does not have ill feelings towards me I rarely get offended.
However if it is someone who obviously dislikes me or thinks less of me than others then yes of course I get offended when they make smart comments.

I'll give you one example. My best friend the other day made a joke about my father who most know has passed away. It was the 1st time he did it since the funeral and it was meant as a joke. I laughed as I knew he would never intentional hurt my feelings when it comes to my dad.

However is someone who I don't get on with made a similar joke I'd f*cking knock him out.

But thee is a massive difference between offensive comments an racists one.

The world really is gone bonkers, if asking someone would they throw their nations food in defence is being racists.

his apology is accepted. All i have been doing is debating the racism issue with rosco. Roger has dished it out to me so if that he wants to, he can fukin well take it when i retaliate. Its very very simple.

I have given two examples of many sites relating to public institutions who clearly state that racial harassment is any comment slur or joke that is related to someones colour or race etc that the victim finds offensive. Now what is so hard to understand about that? Nothing. All you can do to get around is it to simply dismiss there sites or people as 'do gooders' as ross did. But think of it this way. These are real world institutions that we deal with in our every day lives. Unis and local councils etc. If you were at the uni mentioned in the link you would have to abide by their definitions of racial harassment or if you lived in a council area or state which upheld the same definitions, so i suggest you take them a little more seriously perhaps.

And am I the exact same with everybody I meet? No, of course not. But that's because of comfort levels that I do or not not already have established with the people that I meet, nothing else... When meeting total strangers for the first time, I am equally 'reserved' initially, regardless of race, colour or creed, yes.

To reference an example you used earlier, I HAVE been hit by a black driver while out and about in my time here... And you're right, I did think "Oh, you _________ prick!". But the word I came up with was 'useless', not 'black'...

I'm not trying to make myself out to be a saint or a hero here (so please come off that shite, ok?) - I'm just telling you that I don't ever think of race when dealing with everyday people and situations. Or religion. Or sexual orientation...

It's deinitely not human nature to judge people on their race. It may be to judge them on appearance.

Well it is mostly eaten by one particular race but loved by many races
