Interesting to see so many of the kiddies do well. I think we must have about 8 or 9 players I'd rather see start ahead of Lallana now. Including likes of Kent, Teixeira, Markovic, Ojo.

Difficult to see a future for Markovic here. A year on, and he's still being played out of position. What a pointless way to treat a 20 million signing.

You can't keep blaming it on Rodgers and Markovic being played outside his best position. Sure he has shown the occasional neat pass, but a year on, he looks like he still hasn't put on any muscle nor has he adapted to the physical side of the game, or learned that you don't get that much time or space in England when you have the ball. He looks like a soft touch who doesn't have a strong enough mentality to play in the country right now.

Guys often get played out of position because they're not as good or as ready at the moment as the guy(s) ahead of them. Too bad for him, but the fact is Coutinho's better than him, Sterling was, and it looks like Firmino will be. If he wants more minutes in his so-called best position, maybe he should earn it whenever he gets a chance to play, even if it's just outside his comfort zone.

Sometimes talent has to be coaxed out.

It's not about treating everyone the same. If getting a good result for the club means Markovic needed to be indulged a bit then that was the thing to do.

Unfortunately we might never know if it would have been worth it. After a bad start he's effectively been written off by Rodgers, if you look at the chances he's had and the signings we've made. That's an idiotic approach to a signing made largely on potential.

I can understand taking a punt on a kid for a couple of million, and maybe playing him out of position, and hoping to get something special - But spending 20mill on one and not giving him a run in his natural position is madness, even Balotelli got that.

Chelsea could have had him for ten mill. If he was even half decent they would have paid that just to fuck with us.

He played wide alot in Portugal. As said, his woes aren't really down to positioning, it's down to the fundamental basics of surviving in this league. I don't think he's a playmaker or midfielder, as it happens, because he just doesn't have the vision or craft to play that role and he's not solid enough to put himself around in a deeper role. It's perfectly natural to play that sort of player wide to ease him into a role. Benitez did it with Yossi and Garcia, Houllier did it with Smicer. Rodgers has done it with Coutinho!

You win some you lose some, but at that price we should have been more sure we were getting it right. He's clearly got too many question marks over him to have been worth the risk, but by and large, he's a good technician that's not really translated into being a good "player".

Him, Moreno and Lovren were really poor buys.

He's shown an ability to pick out creative passes numerous times. He can play as a 10 no worries.

No he can't. With Coutinho it's obvious, with Yossi it was obvious, I'd saying his passing is like his shooting and every other half decent trait he has - hit and miss.

Yes he can.

Passing of that nature is always hit and miss. But today he played two absolutely top class through balls. He's at least as good at it as someone like Benayoun.

Markovic, Moreno and Lovren may have been poor buys, but I don't think that they are, or were poor players. Whoever bought them doesn't seem to have thought about how to develop and train them. It's a consistent theme in Rodgers' tenure - you play poorly in your first season and you're out, unlikely to ever feature in the first team again.

Borini, Assaidi, Sahin, Alberto, Aspas, Moses, Cissokho, Markovic, Lambert, Manquillo, Balotelli. That's 11 players out of 23 bought or loaned in his first 3 seasons (excluding Origi), that he's found absolutely no use for after the first season, and in some cases, after a couple of matches. 67.5 million that could have been put to better use over three seasons. Some of them are obviously muck but I'm also not counting players like Allen, Yesil, Toure, Lovren, Illori, who play from time to time or might still make it.

The frightening thing is, I think it would not be far off the mark to say not one of these players improved after joining us.

If Markovic had been some youth prospect struggling to make an impact, I'd have agreed with you. As it happens, we scouted him extensively for 2 years, and paid 20 million for him. Give me one instance in the last year where he's been played on the left-wing or in a central AM position? Those are the two positions he always played at with either Benfica or Serbia.

Instead, it's been right-wing, RWB and LWB - three positions he's never played in his career. In a new league, and a toothless attack in front of him.

Undoubtedly, he seems to be a bit on the soft side. But this weird approach to player development is doing him no favours at all. We're hardly a club which can afford to let huge investments go to waste. We've seen it in recent years with Coates, Alberto, Ilori. Markovic seems destined to join that lot - it's very disheartening, not to mention a criminal waste of money.

I suspect Moreno and Origi will also go down the same route. Rodgers seems to have given up on Moreno already, and Origi has now too many players ahead of him to get meaningful minutes.

I'm not saying you're not right here but show me a manager - any manager - and I'll show you a raft of transfer failings.

Hell, it's almost as if it's not that easy.

To be honest I don't expect better any more.

I can't wait till Rodgers fucks off.
